  1. Very true, even a few years ago I would have watched any and every football match on TV. Now I tend to watch our games if I can't get to them and usually just the really big matches in the Premiership and European leagues.
  2. At the moment we're a mid-table Premiership club and have been for several seasons. We can't attract established top flight players without paying huge salaries.
  3. There are plenty of proxy services which in theory they can block. Subscribing to a secure VPN service is more problematic for them given the secure nature of the connection and the fact that effectively your service end point is located in another country which may not even have any form of agreement with the Premier League and would be impractical to block. That's before as others have pointed that every time they get one blocked another couple will spring up within a couple of days. The quicker they just come to terms with this and offer full online subscription services as the music and film industry and have started to move to the better.
  4. Extremely sad news, a big fan of his talent. I'm in exactly the same boat, I've had very similar thoughts this morning.
  5. It does seem to be an unusual justice system where in terms of sentences handed down seriously abusing 13 young girls over several years is considered to be rather less than twice as serious as getting your wife to take three points for a speeding fine (15 vs 8 months).
  6. I can only assume this must be the case otherwise this is a completely insane appointment. I appreciate there's plenty of reasons to not trust Pardew in the transfer market but I still can't work out how the answer to that problem is Joe Kinnear?
  7. Prior to his injury I thought he was developing into an excellent Premiership midfielder who had taken an awful lot of flak but had earned a level of respect from most. His reputation did seem to get a little out of proportion whilst he was out of the side though.
  8. Clearly he's not the worlds greatest manager but there's still a big difference between nearly and actually getting them into the champions league. They had a very good base left by Jol however they were in a bit of a mess as a result of Ramos. Just because he's a self-serving media whore doesn't mean he isn't a decent manager. The trouble with 'Arry is that it is all about 'Arry so there's just as much chance he'll leave a disaster zone of a club behind him.
  9. The mancs haven't done too badly since losing Ronaldo.
  10. There do appear to be different rules in play for Barcelona and Madrid. Let's face it all clubs tap up players but it's a well worn path with Madrid as they attempt to back the selling club into a corner and prevent an auction. They cut a deal with the player and then get him and his agent to agitate for a move thus reducing his value as the player states he wants out and is only prepared to go to one club in particular. I've little doubt that's happening here, it's not even subtle, it's not as if Suarez has simply said he'd like to move on without being specific. Madrid then come in with an insulting offer. Why would we even consider selling him for £25 million? We're not desperate sell even if he throws his toys out of the pram (which is entirely possible), we don't have to sell and I'm sure there will be at least a couple of other European clubs interested.
  11. Just a re-run of Ajax, let's the club down then leaves. Can't blame him mind you, he has been treated appallingly by the media and we are a level below the sort of club he really should be playing for. However the idea that he's a victim of the media when he's selectively using the media himself is always a bit rich. He's also seems incapable of taking responsibility as most indulged modern footballers are incapable. It's also a bit disingenuous of any player attempting to blame outside factors in their decision to leave a mid-table side when Real Madrid come calling. My only real concern here is that by his own and his agents activities here of effectively announcing his departure and his destination without appearing to agree his departure with the club he's contracted too he's effectively lowering his value in the transfer market.
  12. This is precisely where our manager earns his corn, a couple of transfer windows like last January would establish us back as top four contenders. It isn't about buying 'world class' players for us, it's about buying up and coming talent before they reach their peak. I've no idea what Suarez actually said in the interview, I assume there will be a flurry of denials just as there was a couple of months ago? When you have a top flight player playing in a mid-table side at the moment the outcome is pretty inevitable. Given that if Real Madrid or Barcelona come calling it would be pretty difficult for us to hang onto a South American or indeed any player even if we were firmly established in the top 4. If he goes, this is another opportunity for our manager armed with a serious transfer budget to build a successful team. We blew it last time.
  13. Strange decisions clubs make, replace a man who has kept you in the Premiership with a poor manager who was a disaster in his recent last role. I can understand the desire to move beyond the route one football Pulis offered but to decide that man is Mark Hughes is mind boggling. They'd be better off with Pulis. Wasn't there something a bit strange about all the transfer activity at QPR under Hughes with regard to the same agent always being used as well?
  14. This is what most managers do, they naturally bring their own staff with them. Trouble is if you appoint a manager and supporting staff without a track record of winning you end up in the position United are in. Removing established 'winners' with completely unproven individuals at this level. This might well be far too radical and risky approach. They've lost a couple of top flight coaches here to be replaced by the likes of Phil Neville! Of course Moyes and his team may well step up to the plate and deliver. How long will their support tolerate a relatively unsuccessful spell whist the new management bed in? The worst of all possible situations is that with Ferguson still there, a gradual conflict internally develops with staff and senior management turning to Ferguson as they lose confidence with the new regime. Busby all over again hopefully. I work in an office full of manc supporting **%$'s, they're trying to put a brave face on it at the moment but the poor things are clearly confused and nervous.
  15. Personally I wouldn't want a sudden collapse, they'll get rid of Moyes and realise they're in the same position as every other big European club and start recruiting top flight European managers. We're unlikely to see a significant collapse over the next few seasons the most realistic outcome we can hope for is that they slip to being just behind Chelsea and City in the pecking order given that because of their debt they can't quite compete financially. They slip back into the pack of teams competing for a champions league spot at worst. What I hope for and it may be unrealistic is that without Ferguson's immediate intimidation of referee's they become more balanced at Old Toilet. Clubs don't just turn up and immediately accept defeat but rather have a go at them. That sheen of invincibility on their own turf can fade pretty quickly, it did for us. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out, I believe that Ferguson's skills as a motivator and man manager along with his sheer presence (including intimidating match officials) has been worth a dozen points a season to them.
  16. Yeah true, a proper fight from two very good boxers. Good evening of sport that.
  17. Ahh but you're forgetting all the seats required for the 'UEFA family'. Fuck me there must be a lot of brother on sister action if they need that many seats?
  18. Yeah it's taken a turn for the worse, even the slightest unconventional comment now attracts moral outrage. Gone are the days where we can poke fun at the death of a Bristol girl and the loss of her pizza.
  19. I'm not so sure, there might be a few scores to settle from the FA and referee's now Ferguson's out of the picture? I think all bar the very best managers will always round a club up or down to their established level, they'll pick from a pool of players they know, bring in their own backroom staff and set expectations to a level they're used to. Only top managers can adapt and adjust their management style expansively. It's often referred to as the 'Hodgson Effect', it'll be interesting to see if that plays out here.
  20. Stoke supporting mate of mine is convinced Rafa's going there..... In all fairness unlike most of the twats supporting other Premiership clubs he'd probably be welcomed with open arms by the supporters. Setting aside my intense dislike of Pulis on the surface it looks like he's done a decent job getting them into the Premiership and keeping them there, however they have looked like they've been on a downward slope for a few seasons and he has been spending £20 million a year net on transfers to not really get anywhere.
  21. Really is, why Inter sold him for that price? Just goes to show what effect a successful transfer window can have.
  22. Yep the timing is perfect to carry on the United wankathon. Thank god we've got Moyes going in to screw them up long term. All we need is for his holiness Lord Ryan of Giggs to hang up his boots next week and the media will be able to play out this wank fest all summer.
  23. Christ, that's surely got to be photoshop? Are there instructions with each flag explaining which team they should support, various chants and songs listed, perhaps even outlining the rules of the game?
  24. In all fairness City appear to be really trying to put the boot in today to justify the decision to their supporters. Lots of very convenient leaks to the media trashing Mancini. Not exactly classy. The trouble with sugar daddy clubs are the number of hanger's on trying to get a piece of the action. Just how many senior executives do they need? The photo of them all gathered together as Mancini goes up to collect his runners up medal is very revealing. Individuals such as these like to weasel their way into positions of authority without having to take any responsibility. It's pretty clear that City's transfer policy wasn't being defined by Mancini. It's also ludicrous of the club to cite his lack of involvement with their youth academy as a failing giving that by purchasing the club and investing hundreds of millions directly led to the decline of a well respected academy. It's not as if that policy of spending mega bucks to make themselves competitive has come from Mancini. Just like Chelsea as far I'm concerned, a really nasty club at its heart now.
