It's amazing that neither his reputation nor value seems to have taken a hit despite the last year of his career (which is unremarkable to begin with) consisting of 8 months of injury, 3 months looking fairly shit and disinterested and 1 month sat on his arse due to poor attitude.

He’s better than Mignolet. People let a couple of early, high profile errors cloud their judgement. This lad is a decent keeper, a lot more switched on than Simon, has made some very decent saves when he’s been called upon and his distribution and command of the area is much, much better.

 

Okay, he sometimes looks dodgy under a cross/high ball but you’re not going to get the finished article at 24 years old for £5million. Or whatever it was we signed him for.

Based on what? He certainly hasn't been better than Mignolet since he arrived here, hence spending the vast majority of his time sat on the bench, despite being signed specifically to be our new number one. His embarrassing attempt at saving the Spartak freekick is still worse than anything Mignolet has done this season.

The refusal to sell an injured, mid-table centre back with a handful of international caps for £70m+ in order to wring a few months of shite, disinterested performances out of him has to rank as one of the worst transfer decisions of the summer. They could have totally revamped their squad with the money we were willing to give them for van Dijk and probably generated another £250m worth of future sales to us in the process.

The pen was soft as shite. Mane taking a shit left footed shot on a 4v1 was a far worse mistake than Lovren lightly touching an Everton player in the box.

What is don't really get about this signing at the minute is what he was told/believed when he was so keen to sign for us ahead of Chelsea.

IMO Having the dual threat of salah and mane, the more adventurous full backs, and coutinho deeper is already making a difference in the right direction.  We'll see if it's enough.

If we take out all the games against decent opposition and leave only the absolute shite who have worse players than us in every position, a fraction of our resources and routinely get battered by all of our rivals then we have less than a 40% win ratio over a 9 month period (compared to the 80-90% win ratio of Chelsea, for example), with virtually every game being a closely fought struggle up until the last kick of the match.

Despite this, I still see our fans dismiss results like Tuesday's as bad luck and continue to predict us winning by cricket scores every time we play an "easy fixture". This side seemingly has no easy fixtures.

Babel was another one for whom any optimism I had was killed by spending 10 minutes reading through a fan forum after we signed him. Previously character's actions had consequences and mistakes they made (even if well meaning) were punished, usually by death. There's still plenty of excitement there but the writing has fallen off a fucking cliff.

There's been a trade off since they overtook the source material of the quality of writing having massively declined but the excitement and pace (which at times was slow, bordering on tedious) having ramped up. This last episode went too far in that direction for me. Watching 5 people with plot armour hold off an army of 5000, when their reason for being there in the first place makes no sense whatsoever was fucking boring. More and more it feels like a show in which it's better to just disengage your brain and enjoy the cool, nonsensical shit happening on screen for what it is.

I find out crazy that they're willing to pay that much for him, they need a whole squad overhaul not a vanity signing that's just to appease the fans following Neymars departure. They'd be better off signing Van Dijk, Seri, Keita and someone like Mane added to Dembele. For the money they're willing to go for Coutinho and Paulinho they could get Van Dijk, Seri and possibly Keita. Before anyone says two of them aren't for sale, do you honestly think Keita wouldn't do what Coutinho or Van Dijk are doing now to go to Barca? He'd have told Rangnick he's off well before now if that was the case.
