  1. Compared to what we have today he’s worth about 20 points a season. In addition our chances in the cups would improve.

Dont know what price to put on that, but it’s high. If I could pick one player in the PL for us I’d say it’s between De Gea, Kante, De Bruyne or Kane. Probably in that order too.

You reckon if we'd have swapped keepers with Man United last season we'd have won the title with a record points haul while they would have finished miles below Everton and barely above the likes of West Brom? Even though they strolled to a Europa League win using their sub keeper?

  2. It's amazing that neither his reputation nor value seems to have taken a hit despite the last year of his career (which is unremarkable to begin with) consisting of 8 months of injury, 3 months looking fairly shit and disinterested and 1 month sat on his arse due to poor attitude.

  3. He’s better than Mignolet. People let a couple of early, high profile errors cloud their judgement. This lad is a decent keeper, a lot more switched on than Simon, has made some very decent saves when he’s been called upon and his distribution and command of the area is much, much better.

Okay, he sometimes looks dodgy under a cross/high ball but you’re not going to get the finished article at 24 years old for £5million. Or whatever it was we signed him for.

Based on what? He certainly hasn't been better than Mignolet since he arrived here, hence spending the vast majority of his time sat on the bench, despite being signed specifically to be our new number one. His embarrassing attempt at saving the Spartak freekick is still worse than anything Mignolet has done this season.

  4. The refusal to sell an injured, mid-table centre back with a handful of international caps for £70m+ in order to wring a few months of shite, disinterested performances out of him has to rank as one of the worst transfer decisions of the summer. They could have totally revamped their squad with the money we were willing to give them for van Dijk and probably generated another £250m worth of future sales to us in the process.

  5. About time. Much better keeper than Mignolet despite what anyone who made their mind up before a ball was kicked thinks.

Of course, we need a top keeper but like everything wrong with the club that comes down to not spending what we earn and the pathetic apathy towards that from the fanbase.

Everyone making their mind up before a ball was kicked was convinced that Karius was a top class keeper who would be an enormous upgrade on Mignolet. It took a staggering level of incompetence to convince people he was even worse than our pear-loving Belgian.

  6. So if we take out the games we were good in, our record is not so good.

    Hmmm, who'd a thought that...

IMO Having the dual threat of salah and mane, the more adventurous full backs, and coutinho deeper is already making a difference in the right direction.  We'll see if it's enough.

If we take out all the games against decent opposition and leave only the absolute shite who have worse players than us in every position, a fraction of our resources and routinely get battered by all of our rivals then we have less than a 40% win ratio over a 9 month period (compared to the 80-90% win ratio of Chelsea, for example), with virtually every game being a closely fought struggle up until the last kick of the match.

Despite this, I still see our fans dismiss results like Tuesday's as bad luck and continue to predict us winning by cricket scores every time we play an "easy fixture". This side seemingly has no easy fixtures.

  7. Take away the big Premier League fixtures (games against the top 6 + the derby) and this season's European games against half decent opposition (Sevilla who are 3rd in Spain and Hoffenheim who are 2nd in Germany) and our record in 2017 is as follows:

    P24

    W9

    D7

    L8

    GF32

    GA29

    GD+3

The only times we've won by more than a goal in 24 games against an absolute sea of shite were the last 2 of last season against an already relegated Boro and a West Ham team on the beach.

  8. Andy Carroll.

A limited Championship target man who "likes a drink" has a few months of good form and we make him one of the most expensive players of all time. The current equivalent would be spending £60-70m on Chris Wood if scores a few more before January.

Whoever even proposed that deal should have been sacked on the spot.

  9. Reminiscent of City's signing of Milner. I think this will prove to be a very smart signing. Ridiculously quick, as people have already alluded to his versatility. Ironically like Milner, his versatility has probably hindered his development.

Surely it's far more reminiscent of OUR signing of Milner?

A utility player who has been unable to nail down a preferred position at a rival team and is turning down a big contract from them to come here.

  10. Babel was another one for whom any optimism I had was killed by spending 10 minutes reading through a fan forum after we signed him. The sense of euphoria and bewilderment from Ajax fans at getting rid of him and for so much money was similar to what you'd expect on here if Real Madrid signed Moreno for £30m. Unfortunately, he turned out to be just as shit and completely fucking brainless as they all described.

  11. I remember the day we signed Carroll, going on to a Newcastle forum, setting the date back 6 months and reading through a thread in which they were discussing a story linking him with an £8m move to Birmingham. The general consensus seemed to be that he was a good but limited Championship target man and that any bid over £10m would have to be seriously considered.

11 goals in 20 games later and we made him the 8th most expensive player of all time, spending £1m more on him than Barcelona had recently paid for David Villa, who had just won the World Cup, finished top scorer and was named in the team of the tournament.

  12. It only has one season per episode written by GRRM. That episode was written by Alan Taylor who wrote episodes of Six Feet Under, The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Deadwood, and The West Wing. But generally the show is written and overseen by D and D. They strayed from the books quite some time ago.

It was directed by Alan Taylor. It was written by the show's creators, Benioff and Weiss, who are proving far less adept at writing original material than they were adapting novels.

  13. if certain characters are unkillable at this point then stop putting them in precarious situations which require contrived bollocks to save them, especially when their arriving in those situations makes no fucking sense in the first place. Watching Jon Snow's plot armour keep thousands of undead at bay isn't entertaining. It's boring as fuck.

Previously character's actions had consequences and mistakes they made (even if well meaning) were punished, usually by death. Now we're seeing characters who should know far better make unbelievably stupid mistakes over and over, only to walk away unscathed thanks to some nonsensical occurrence or another. There's still plenty of excitement there but the writing has fallen off a fucking cliff.

  14. There's been a trade off since they overtook the source material of the quality of writing having massively declined but the excitement and pace (which at times was slow, bordering on tedious) having ramped up. This last episode went too far in that direction for me. Watching 5 people with plot armour hold off an army of 5000, when their reason for being there in the first place makes no sense whatsoever was fucking boring. More and more it feels like a show in which it's better to just disengage your brain and enjoy the cool, nonsensical shit happening on screen for what it is.

  15. I find out crazy that they're willing to pay that much for him, they need a whole squad overhaul not a vanity signing that's just to appease the fans following Neymars departure. They'd be better off signing Van Dijk, Seri, Keita and someone like Mane added to Dembele. For the money they're willing to go for Coutinho and Paulinho they could get Van Dijk, Seri and possibly Keita. Before anyone says two of them aren't for sale, do you honestly think Keita wouldn't do what Coutinho or Van Dijk are doing now to go to Barca? He'd have told Rangnick he's off well before now if that was the case. Southampton would absolutely love to sell Van Dijk to Barca because they haven't sold to the nasty Scousers and Les fucking Reed would have a boner over the fact Barcelona have bought a player he scouted/signed for Southampton. The prick.

There's no way a non-English team is going to spend £60m+ on a midtable Premier League centre back with a handful of international caps who has done nothing on the European or international stage.

  16. In my day the higher ups at the club would reveal its innermost secrets exclusively to the city's cab drivers, who would then relay the information to any passenger willing to engage in football-based small talk. Now it seems they spill the beans to Twitter ITK's instead. The game has lost its soul.
