  1. Agreed. Also can the club actually force him to stay? Even if they can, there's a chance it could be detrimental in terms of him wanting to stay here passed his current contract. The mancs seem to always announced a players injuries to the press, but then the press always has their back and seems to think their players are some sort of footballing gods, irregardless of their actual performances, who will obviously make the squad (ex - Welbeck, who's never been half as good as Sturridge but Sturridge is fighting for a place and Welbeck, in the media's eyes at least, is a lock).
  2. Are they good for us or is it a sign of lack of ambitition? This depends on context. I think in certain cases, for example when a player has a history of injury, it makes sense to have a loan before buying and even more sense when you can convince the loaning club to arrange a permanent fee before the loan starts (As we did with Cissokho if I'm not mistaken). In cases where it's clear that the loaning club aren't going to sell however it would show a lack of ambition for me in our case, as we'd essentially be developing their talent for them, but if it's a club that's happy to just stay in the premiership then it makes sense for them irregardless. As a semi-related anecdote the one problem I have with the Moses loan is that there isn't a fee to buy already set. I have no doubt that Chelsea will sell him eventually, but if he does really well for us I don't see them selling to us, at least not for an extortionate fee. Obviously if he's poor we wouldn't be interested anyway. That said, let's say he does well and we end up in a CL position at the end of the season, there's a chance we wouldn't want him anyway as we'd be targeting a higher caliber of player for his position. Necessary evil due to inflated transfer fees and wages? I don't know that I'd call them an "evil" but other than that yes, unless of course the club is capable of paying those inflated transfer fees and wages. Is it fair? I think so. It makes sense when your player clearly needs games at a higher level than the reserves to improve and in most cases it makes sense for the club receiving the loan. For clubs that should have higher aspirations it makes less sense without a pre-arranged permanent fee, but sometimes you just have to take what you can get, as we did with Moses. I don't think he was ever really a target until we decided we couldn't get the players we wanted. The fact that some sources were saying we made a late push for Mata on a permanent did make me wonder why we didn't do that before going in for Moses on loan however, but I'm not sure if those sources were reliable, and even if they were who's to say we didn't attempt to buy Mata before we agreed the loan deal for Moses.
  3. Funny you should say that. I had seen on a thread about football on an otherwise non-football website that the manc RAWK has started blaming Woodward already. Also saw a Moyes out twitter campaign has been started as well though. I do tend to agree with you though. Moyes will see out the season at least unless he pulls a Hodgson and has them in the bottom half of the table before January.
  4. Pretty much how I feel about it. Obviously he's probably regressed (or stayed about the same) given injury history and the fact he's contract has just been cancelled but if he can still put in tackles and is mobile then he could do a job for us as cover for Lucas. If not, we're in the same position as before we trialed him.
  5. It's not really 2 in midfield though is it? He'd be playing at the apex of a midfield 3 triangle I'd assume and Coutinho has shown willingness to track back, put in tackles, and make interceptions. Sure he's no Gerrard of old but he's more than capable of being a nuisance as is Suarez. Sturridge already defends from the front, the only one there I'm unsure of their defensive qualities is Moses. The only problem I have with it is that I think Henderson deserves to play but he's not going to unseat Gerrard and I don't know if he's ideal for the Lucas role, seems it would limit his qualities too much, though I do think he could do a job there in spot instances.
  6. He did. He still had a medical for Spurs though, once Chelsea was in he went for them instead.
  7. It's a good forward line but I, like most on here it seems, feel Coutinho is better when deployed centrally behind the front three. There's arguably more space there for what he does best, he's got pace sure but he's not really a "leave his man for dead" type player. His quickness and agility with the ball are among his best attributes and obviously his eye for a pass will have a wider range of vision centrally than on either side of the pitch. It's because of this that I think starting him next to sidelines is less than ideal.
  8. I think Aspas is just feeling his way into the league and will come good. I suppose that depends on whether or not he gets dropped for Moses though as originally I thought Henderson would be dropped for whatever winger we got in but he deserves to play based on current form. He couldn't get into this game at all but he's shown promise in others despite not scoring. Ultimately though I think perhaps he's better employed more centrally than wide (I know our fullbacks provide the true width but he still generally plays further right than he would in a front 2 for example). That said I'd love to see what you're asking for, but I don't think it's going to happen this window.
  9. Great result. Played great defense the entire second half. Would have liked another goal but fuck it I'll take it!
  10. Agreed. Give him a good talking to at halftime and see how he handles the first 15-20 minutes. If he doesn't improve, swap him for Sterling then.
  11. Fuck yes!! Pull an all nighter for this, couldn't sleep. Lets go!
  12. Before this game I thought we'd twat them actually. Swansea flattered them and neither side looked great on Monday. We've played well in the league despite us only scoring one goal. Not too sure about a win now but I certainly don't think we'll get twatted. We always show up for this fixture, especially at home. That said I may feel different when the team sheet rolls out. I'm not as down on wisdom as some are after yesterday (mainly because he played most of the game at rightback and I think he's better as a centerback) but ideally he wouldn't be starting against these obviously.
  13. Must admit I was a bit surprised by that too. Less so with Toure because there wasn't even another defender on the bench but I definitely thought Stevie and Sturridge could have been subbed.
  14. I like the optimism but it's more that there is a pattern of playing one good half and then one shit half it's been there all season. At this rate I hope to fuck the players don't count the two extra time periods as a "half" of football because if so we're destined to be shit 1st half on sunday. Of course I'd much rather Rodgers takes them to task for it and they show up for the whole match from here on out. Our finishing is a worry as it's inconsistent, we've been saying "unlucky to hit the woodwork this much" multiple times a season since Kenny was here, sure it is a bit unlucky but it's a case of bad luck we seem to consistently have. Also I said it after the Villa game but I'm tired of Johnson thinking he's Luis Figo and trying to score all the time even when a shot isn't on. Pass the fucking ball Glen there's a reason you get paid to defend and not score.
  15. Just like us to have to look completely fucked to start giving a shit again only to turn them over. Do that in the original 90 and we save important players legs and have one less injury. Despite the win Rodgers needs to tell them to get their shit together. FSG have got to spend on at least a CB and hopefully a winger as well.
  16. Has nothing to do with bollocks and everything to do with complacency in this one. As someone else said we got up 2-0 and played a different game in the second half. More "me football" less team football. FEG is also right that Johnson would have tried a hell of a lot harder in a "marquee" game.
  17. Just a few years ago didn't we all want to go back to business being conducted behind closed doors? I hate the cunt but it's relevant in that Mourinho has just basically came out and said that if Tottenham hadn't publicized Willian's medical and fee they might not have gone in for him. How many targets have we lost out to other clubs on because we've done all the legwork publicly only for the player to change his mind when someone who looks better now came in?
  18. Was rumoured a few weeks ago by that Uruguayan journo wasn't it? Haven't seen anything since other than what you've just said.
  19. He is being harsh but he's never been a fan of Lucas to be fair from what I've seen on here. That said towards the end there were a few times I was pissed off with Lucas whilst watching. I don't think a DM is needed however, because if we get a better player for the wing Henderson can provide the cover and Coutinho will play in his stead. Agree with the rest, easy to say when it's not your money I suppose but Rodgers needs to be given a budget and then allowed to live and die by his signings for me. He's shown that he can have us playing very well so he deserves that type of backing at this point.
  20. Yea I think that's what will happen as well. I've never seen (or even heard of) Abdennour, but Sakho and Papa would be perfect in my opinion. Papa would most likely instantly replace Toure if/when he's fit and Sakho looked (when he played) like he could at the very least challenge Agger. I think we'll end up with Sakho this window and try to sign Papa again in January. Still we were crying out for another option in the second half, which was compounded once Coutinho and Aspas started to fade. So with that said I can see why a quality winger is the top priority for Rodgers.
  21. Rodgers wants a more established winger so that we can use Sterling and Ibe as cover rather than start one of them. Aspas looks to be a good player but if we can get someone in better than him (or even just more comfortable on the wing) then he's the perfect cover/competition for Sturridge. Suarez will likely be deployed on the left or right, depending on if we get a good winger in and what side he plays since the manager has said he wants a left-winger, I believe he'd prefer to play Suarez on the right. Henderson would get dropped for the new man right now in most games. I like his energy and he's shown he can deliver a good cross and finish well when he gets in positions to do so but he doesn't do that often. I'd feel much better with him coming off the bench than Allen especially against larger sides. In the short time he was on today I saw the ball go just over his head on more than one occasion, you can argue he should be jumping but for me he just looked well smaller than everyone else around him. I would like a new CB so that Agger has to look over his shoulder when he makes silly mistakes but I don't see the need for another DM because Henderson can play there if need be so long as we have a better option from the start. Lucas was fine today bar a few instances in the second half and to be honest the whole team looked like they smoked a carton of ciggies at half time for some reason.
