If England had lost I am sure somebody would have brought up the subject. Having said that , the ball had nothing to do with Australia losing their last 7 wickets for 71. A really enjoyable series , great for test cricket.

Really? It absolutely did.....it changed the match completely.

I also can't believe the amount of LFC fans actually supporting an England team, who in the main seem a bunch of gobshites & hypocrites.

    Bazbollocks...

They should have asked Rugby and Cricket what they were doing and followed.

Can't help but feel the PL/ FA have tried a bit of oneupmanship in being the first to announce postponements; and got it wrong. Similarly, so have BHB in regards to horse racing....

All the travel plans, hotels booked, etc You can bet people will struggle to get refunds.......

There's always been something a bit 'off' about Villa. Yes, a big club historically, undeniably, but one that seems to have had farce sewn into the inside of its jacket pocket, like a hidden insult embroidered by an embittered tailor. In the mid-Sixties, the woeful 'comedy' double act, Mike and Bernie Winters, tried to buy the club, only to be beaten by the shy and retiring Doug Ellis. They've always had a sort of 'Dutch' inclination to internal disharmony, the club most likely to be looking to start arguments in empty rooms. It's a gloomy club in a gloomy place. Even when they've won stuff they've done so with a lugubriousness that would make a Yorkshireman seem cheerful. It was surely inevitable that one of their best periods would be overseen by a Bluenose, Ron Saunders, who had a positively vampiric ability to suck the joy out of any and every triumph. The ever-frowning Gerrard's always had a certain saturnine quality about him, and that must have ticked the right box to lure him to the club, but he's probably best out of it before it scars him too deeply.

    Agree with that.

Did Ron Saunders take pleasure when they won the League? And then he fell out with the board......

As a kid, I thought that the Ipswich Ipswich team were better, but were in every competition deep into the season, and ran out of legs.

He’s certainly not the player we thought we were getting - box to box dynamic midfielder wearing Gerrard's No.8 shirt.

Seen a stat earlier on twitter saying he’s got 7 goals and 5 assists in all his time here.

Agree with this; where is the all action No 8 who scored/assisted, and was prone to yellows, and the odd red card? I know he's playing a different role, but he's like an imposter. There's been the odd flash of quality, but he's far too inconsistent - and too often injured.

There is a player there somewhere....but we're not seeing it enough. I wouldn't be disappointed of he went.

  5. Sutton, Savage, etc all the same. Talking endless bollocks...

There was a time when 5 Live was a decent listen, and you could respect their analysts, even if you'd occasionally disagree with them. Most of them now are clueless....They should be leaving that to Talksport..

  6. It looked like a poor attitude, and we were surprisingly lethargic. After last season's near miss, many posters said we have to hit the ground running, and win as many games as possible - and be ahead of City by the World Cup. Two points already gone, isn't the best start, and you imagine City will take them apart.

However it's one game - lets see where we are after another 5 or 6 games.

  7. Saw that piece on the Guardian website the other day; it was a hard read...he's really been through it - and one hopes he's finally sorted. Hats off to his family for their support. While out cycling I've seen him plenty of times walking his dogs...

  8. Coldplay; liked by people who aren't really into music, but think it's trendy to do so. They're just a poor man's Radiohead, with far less talent.

The same could be said about Ed Sheeran, Adele....and going back probably Dido (which is possibly slightly harsh).

Unfortunately, their uninspiring grind to semi-finals and finals in his last two tournaments have earned him a lot of credit, despite him patently having no plan B. He's barely got a plan fucking A.

I don't know how people can't see this; both games are virtually the same. An early lead, failure to get a 2nd - and then the opposition get into the game, England retreat to their own half - and can't get anybody on the ball...

Southgate just stands there looking confused, unable to do anything.....England eventually lose.

We deserved to win that. But to not take a single one of those chances we created was a huge failure on our part. Despite the volume of goals we score, we don't have a ruthless finisher in this team. A prime Torres, Owen, Fowler, Suarez etc. would have banged in a few today. With Mane leaving I would love us to go out and sign Lewandowski.

I feel (possibly unfairly) that we were a clinical striker away from winning the lot. There are far too many games that we're dominating, but the opposition are still in the game; we rarely put teams to the sword, despite the chances.

Even in 3 Cup Finals, the chances have been there - not one put away. In the tight games v good opposition, you have to take your chances when they come. These games are all about fine margins......

We've had a great run, but at the moment it feels a bit deflating; so close to the impossible.....

  11. Great write up; I'm not disappointed, sad or heartbroken. Just angry, and seriously fed up......92 points, following on from 97 three years ago, and not enough to win the title. What's that all about? I'm not even looking at where we dropped points; we got 92, and since January have only dropped points twice. We're not competing in an equal competition.

Villa did the hard part, and then like too many other teams v City, concede a goal, and then fall to pieces....just like Wolves & Newcastle did recently. And it won't be any different next season, which is why we have to hit the ground running, and ideally be leading by Oct/Nov.

  12. Yeah, I think it should be brought back.....

Growing up, all 3 competitions knock out rounds were played on the same days. Then in the 90s, Tuesday was the UEFA Cup, Wednesday the Champions League, and finally Thursday was the Cup Winners' Cup.

    Fergie time.

That infamous picture of them screaming at the referee.

Ferguson harraunging every official who dared to give a decision against them.

Yep they did it the right way ok.

That Sheffield Weds game at home in April 1993; 0-1 down into injury time....somehow conjure up 2 goals to win.....that's the start of it, and when you knew they were never beaten...as the refs would almost play until they scored.

Villa's collapse today sums up the simpering, pathetic, gutless, spineless, bottleless utterly mediocre shite that this league is chocker full of.

The worst part about it is it was in absolutely no way at all even mildly surprising they collapsed as they did from the moment the first goal went in against them.

As for us - simply magnificent - onto Paris, Redmen and fuck those cheating, sportswashing, nomark manc shithouses.

Agree - too many teams do it. Recently, both Newcastle & Wolves have given up, and shipped 5 goals against them. There's a 10 goal swing in 2 games. That's what we're up against.  Why's it going to be any different next season, no matter how good we are.
