I completely agree it's not a good thing for the game. But now they've let it happen, it's happening. Maybe some some help, guidance and money Bordeaux could become french champions again. Now that brings in a whole load of different problems, as with the red bull clubs in Europe. And even more weirdly, redbird have 10% or whatever in fsg, what if they threw their hand in with fsg and then all their clubs, including Milan end up in the fsg house? It's all a nightmare for the game down the line.

I can guarantee it will only become a problem for the integrity of the game once we start to do it.

The more I watch City's goal the more I think something needs to be done about blocking at corners. I'm not saying it should have been disallowed as it happens all the time, but I think it needs looking at for future reference. Standing your ground and blocking someone off is fine, but Ake basically acted like an offensive lineman clearing a space for his running back. People said Macca needed to be stronger, but he's an undersized midfielder being shoved out of the way by a centre back who has no interest in the ball, only in stopping Macca from getting to the near post. If this is seen as ok then there should be a free for all and we may as well hire NFL offensive line coaches to teach players how to block.

Said in another thread if they're making no effort to play the ball and are instead moving to block another player, then it's obstruction.

    1. Direct free kick

A direct free kick is awarded if a player commits any of the following offences against an opponent in a manner considered by the referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive force:

    charges

    jumps at

    kicks or attempts to kick

    pushes

strikes or attempts to strike (including head-butt)

    tackles or challenges

    trips or attempts to trip

If an offence involves contact it is penalised by a direct free kick or penalty kick.

Careless is when a player shows a lack of attention or consideration when making a challenge or acts without precaution. No disciplinary sanction is needed

Reckless is when a player acts with disregard to the danger to, or consequences for, an opponent and must be cautioned

Using excessive force is when a player exceeds the necessary use of force and endangers the safety of an opponent and must be sent off

A direct free kick is awarded if a player commits any of the following offences:

a handball offence (except for the goalkeeper within their penalty area)

    holds an opponent

    impedes an opponent with contact

bites or spits at someone on the team lists or a match official

throws an object at the ball, opponent or match official, or makes contact with the ball with a held object

The issue for me is the English press. They are petrified of the narrative that there may be corruption amongst referees. The know a very large and vocal part of the English football fan base believes refereeing integrity being a problem is an issue for Johnny foreigner. And anyone who suggests otherwise, is a tin foil hat merchant. So the align themselves time and time again with the whole idea it can't possibly be  corrupt, it's just shit. Listen to any of those weekly podcasts, the times, guardian, athletic etc, they're all the same. Until one of them stands up and says "can't we at least remove the impression of a conflict of interests", this is going to just continue. I find it all quite depressing.

The Romans had the arena to keep the plebs distracted - we have VAR.

Dean, I think it's him, saying  on Sky that Oliver believed he got the ball first, VAR looked, confirmed he got the ball first so therefore that was that.

Surely VAR should be saying, yes he got the ball but it was reckless, have a look.

It's bollocks, next week, get the ball but follow through is enough to give foul, as it correctly should be, according to refs that game/week/specific incident.

He doesn't win the ball first though. It comes off MacAllister's chest, onto Doku's leg then up into the air. VAR would have seen that, but chose for whatever reason to avoid sending Oliver to the screen.

Looking at their goal with our lads getting blocked, how was that any different to Endo getting done for blocking in the league cup final?

Endo was offside when he did it, so was considered to be gaining advantage from being there. Ake couldn't be offside from a corner. They need to do something about this deliberate blocking though. If you're not trying to play the ball, you shouldn't be interfering with an opponent. It's obstruction, simple as.

What are the 3 exceptions where offsides will not be called?

But there are some exceptions: Players cannot be offside in their own half of the field. It is not possible to be offside from a throw-in, corner kick or goal kick. If the ball is deliberately played by a member of the opposing team, an attacker cannot be offside.

Yeah, I replied earlier that you can't be offside from a corner. My next reply was referring to open play.

I’m not sure about the offside rule, but doesn’t it have to be a forward pass too?  De Bruyne’s corner was backwards and the players were behind him too.

    Onside. Unfortunately.

Nope. Forwards, backwards, whatever. If you're ahead of the ball when it's played, you'll be offside if you touch it (or attempt to) before anyone else.

I think weve done well considering the team we have out. How that goal was given ill never know as Ake is actually offside when the ball is struck and hes pushing MacAllister away from goal.

Can't be offside from a corner mate. But yeah, shit like that should be penalised anyway.

I’ve seen hundreds of terrible decisions in the PL this season. The ref and VAR failing to send Moder of Brighton off right now is possibly the worst of them all. Absolutely shocking decision. As bad as it gets. You may as well referee the games by throwing a dice.

When I say it’s the worst decision I’ve seen I didnt include the thing that happened to us against Spurs, as I dont think that counts as a decision. Thay was something else.

Didn't see it, but I'm sure it'll be all over the media later with every cunt offering their opinion on it, right?
