Manchester United 2 Liverpool 2 (Apr 7 2024)
beejay replied to tlw content's topic in FF - Football Forum
It's not just this big game when our strikers have fired duds, TAA, VVD and own goals have contributed as much as our top 3 against our main rivals or Cup finals so far. But as much as I want to explode about their wasted opportunities, it's still our defence that will lose us the League. We concede the 1st goal countless times and our offensive play bails us out so when we finally score first why the fuck do our defence fail to keep a clean sheet? -
Bradley is great, Trent is great. Find a way to include them both not sell our best assets. Left back is way more of a problem.

Manchester United 4 Liverpool 3 (Mar 17 2024)

I know you shouldn't compare but in my mad over the top reaction at full time I was shouting out for the Mane/Firmino/Salah slide rule destruction of teams in the final third, especially on the break. Instead, this was yet another butchering of so many opportunities. Klopp 2.0 is ace at creating chances, we are doing fucking great and I love the players to bits but ffs how do we manage to make so many awful judgement calls -
18 different nationalities have played for Liverpool's 1st team in competitive matches (League, FA Cup, Caraboa Cup and Europa Cup) this season! And 13 different English players have featured as well! Must be some kind of record? The countries represented are England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Ireland, Brazil, Holland, Greece, Cameroon, France, Spain, Argentina, Japan, Hungary, Portugal, Egypt, Uruguay and Colombia

Southampton (H) - FA Cup 5th Rnd - Wed 28th Feb 2024 (8:00pm)

Thought I had posted this before but we do have another game this week...the Youth Cup quarter final away to Leeds on Thursday. Win that and it's a semi final v Millwall. Now obviously the priority is the first team, goes without saying, but these kids have fought their way through to this stage of the Youth Cup and the club will want to be competitive. So, juggling fixtures and with the need to have some of our senior players having some game time before the Forest match - maybe we will field a stronger side v Southampton than we think? -
Yep. A blue card for sure, nice one James. We can't get too carried away, I remember thinking our centre midfield duo when we beat Everton in the Cup with the youth team would go onto the big stage but last I heard they were playing in Scottish league. Is McConnell ahead of Morton in developing to the first team? We will see but let's enjoy the moment for all these lads

Carabao Cup Final: Chelsea 0 Liverpool 1 (Feb 25 2024)

Thanks Dave, great commentary. Another shout for the fans, it seemed well loud in the ground but when I got home had to watch it all over again and all you could hear was our support. The Ole Ole (!) in extra time was spine tingling stuff, so proud of the club. -
They lost the 1st leg and were still losing on aggregate until Galatasary had a player sent off after 68 minutes. Sparta scored 3 times against 10 men so it's hardly a thrashing

"We have received a further allocation of tickets from the EFL and Wembley, a number of tickets were also not purchased by supporters successful in the ballot therefore we can confirm that 2490 tickets are available. These tickets are available to waiting list positions 1-1531 and we are pleased to advise that you and any supporters you are registered with are eligible to purchase subject to availability " That was last week Scott

Crikey, who will start? Either we have 1st teamers out through injury or we have to protect players from more than 2 games in a week with a cup final on Sunday. But it's a must win game and Luton are a competitive side who have posed problems for every side including us. Kelleher Bradley Quansah Van Dijk Gomez Endo McAllister Gravenberch Diaz Gakpo Elliot Subs to include Salah of course, Robertson, Konate but mainly kids after that. Koumas, would love to see him given minutes if we need a goal, he's a prospect

Joyce has posted that Curtis and Jota will miss the final and Allison out until after the International break. But Nunez went off as a precaution. Update tomorrow with Klopp's press conference
-
Hmm, I might give you the Jota-Keegan comparison at a push but Toshack and Nunez no way. Tosh was awesome in the air which was needed against huge grock defenders back then and had a good touch for a big man but no pace at all. Nunez is decent in the air but his strength is his mobility.

Halsey: Referee standards have dropped to alarming levels

Michael Oliver. 18 v 4 free kicks, another horror show. -
Fowler: I was a better striker than Owen in every aspect
beejay replied to TLW's topic in FF - Football Forum
It's wrong to pick between them because we were privileged to have them both in their prime. It's also hard to stay objective as Robbie was always one of us while there was always this stigma about Owen favouring England. But if pushed I still think Fowler was the better player. What a striker of a ball, I was right behind him a few times witnessing an arrow straight missile into the corner and he was deadly in the air too. -

What? That was a terrible decision, first yellow wasn't even a foul Havertz backing into him and Konate stronger. Second one was more a case of the forward buying a foul. Did you see the numbers of times Gabriel went through the back of Bowen yesterday with the ref waving play on? -
Wow, that's exactly how I see it as well! Maybe the only difference is that we have more strength in depth with our current squad when fit but 100% agree that Mane/Firmino/Salah were on a higher level than any of our permutations now.

Santos also played at Villa Park in 1972, my brother has the old man's programme from the game
