  1. That's about right. It's not vital that a CEO is a football genius - is any Premier league CEO really a 'football man'? What is important is that they're ultimately professional, show strong and clear leadership, leave the football to those directly involved and don't have a name like 'Ayre'.
  2. I don't think that's the way Pepe works. I think he's one of those rare players with a sense of honour about such things.
  3. Ayre is a twat, spot on - but the Spanish FA have an issue with Aspas' brother who has been a prat with them - not the club. Ayre may not be all that long for his job.
  4. He really is as good as the Scouts say he is. I'd be very surprised if it didn't work, should we actually sign him.
  5. Given how far we'd fallen under the yoke of H&G and the fact we're now only just stable, can't blame them. If this pans out, it could be a graceful exit for FSG in a year or so.
  6. Al Jazeera has reported the Qatari investment firm 'Ooredoo' has decalred a strong interest in 'full investment' Liverpool FC with a view to boosting asian markets and promoting the upcoming World Cup in the region. This is what was said on Al Jazeera by the Ooredoo rep: "The goal was to sponsor a big English club with a huge history, our search included Arsenal & Manchester United but the former two have long sponsorship deals and the same applies to Manchester City so Liverpool is the only club available right now." "We want to sponsor the club in full. We want to sponsor the Stadium (possibly rename it) as well as the club's kits. Our goal is to reach the Asian markets where the Premier League has an enormous fan base." "We received the tender from the club a few days ago and we are currently in the process of due diligence and we are studying each aspect of the study." "It is a dual interest, Liverpool needs the money to compete with the European heavyweights and we want to expand our brand to reach new markets via football." So...thoughts?
  7. Dementia is usually signified by early episodes of short term memory loss and lack of concentr what?
  8. It's simpler - KNVB actually gave him a 5 match ban - Ajax added two matches of their own as punishment to make it 7 - ergo, the 2 Ajax matches being club based did not form part of his registered punishment and were unenforcible when he came to us.
  9. See this Ryvita? See it? I'll eat that as well if you don't shut up!
  10. For the last time, John you dirty fucker - it's a dug out - not a bog!
  11. ...and this my Frank Spencer - 'oh, Betty!' next, Julian Clary...
  12. 'Bren, look...of course they're going to say that, but really - they offered me the job first!'
  13. Ah, well - Poyet at least I can help you with (paraphrasing) he said on Wednesday it was 'pure victimisation - no grounds could be made for such a ridiculous reaction to a simple stupid but non-dangerous incident. English players would not be treated the same way'.
  14. Ok...to answer some of the thoughts that have gone through this thread... During the late 70's and early 80's I did some small work for the BBC off and on while mostly working in music doing session stuff. You got to hear a lot of things. Saville was prime amongst them - his thing for young girls and according to some, young boys...Glitter I knew about more or less first hand as a good friend of mine had to play in his backing band to get out of a contract with the same agency who ran him, so he could pursue a recording contract with a group he wanted to join. As he was my best mate, i joined the mini-tour of Uni's with him. The rest of the backing band were made up of seasoned old pros including one who played with Snafu, and another with the old Merseysound band, the Undertakers. Over our first post-show beer one night in a hotel in Hull (barf), they openly and baldly told us about Glitter and his proclivities - there was a young girl staying at the hotel he was creepily attentive to and we were shocked. later - a couple of years down the line I was working to supplement my studies with a friend who got me a part time job in scripts at the BBC - as a lot of people came by the office for stuff and chatted, we got to hear a lot of things - mostly Saville, but also bits about Rolf Harris and lesser known others. This stuff was common knowledge in many 'showbiz' places - not just the beeb, recording studios, rehearsal rooms etc, but bars in Soho and anywhere TV, music and theatre people hung out. I told my then wife about much of this 20 odd years ago and so neither of us were surprised when the shit hit the fan, or in some cases, when the fans hit the shit. So why didn't we do anything? Say anything? Well, of course - carefully - some people did - to their bosses, to journos, possibly even to the police but their was always a problem...the burden of clear, directly linkable, untrammeled proof. without that, it was all 'rumour' and conjecture. Added to this was the fact that people like Saville especially were notoriously litigious and would threaten to withdraw from his charities if anyone got too close. He befreinded Thatcher, the famous and powerful and could afford the best QC in the land to defend him with the defendant-friendly British libel laws if it ever came to court - and who would be the underage witnesses willing to be torn to shreds? Even with proof, such was the law the odds were with the defendant - Lord Archer, anyone? 'Is she not fair, is she not fragrant?'. However...once a person is dead, British libel law does not apply - even the executors of an estate can't sue - and that is why it is all coming out now and people like Harris, DLT and others are getting swept up in the backwash. The failures of a regularly tipped off and libel shy Police are also under scrutiny. On the subject of reputation and wrongdoing, In England it remains easier for a rich man - however malodorous - to defend himself in court than it is for an ordinary person to secure a conviction against him...and thereby hangs a tale.
  15. My Mrs calls her Holly Willoughbooby - can't think why...
  16. Got a link or some such to this mate?
  17. This is incorrect - the '10 card' amnesty came in 2 games ago (11 days) - it now stands at 15 games for further punishment. In Holland Suarez got a 5 game ban for the bite, with a further two added by Ajax themselves - so this is baseline double what he got in Holland, which, as it was under the auspices of the Dutch FA by the rules of UEFA should have no bearing on the current case whatsoever as it's with a different FA.
  18. I don't - unlike the potential fallout of alleged racism given their areas of operation, this isn't going to have any foldback on their business and they will keep well out.
  19. To be fair, as to appeal or not, the decision lies solely with Luis, not Brendan, not FSG - they can only advise and support.
  20. I want him to succeed big time as manager - I don't think he will, but he's done himself absolutely no harm whatsoever today. I just hope his actions in all areas match his words from here on in. Well done and said, Mr Rodgers.
  21. Good - I think we should effectively take the gloves off.
