  1. My take is that he really wants to go to Madrid, and Benitez is not exactly averse to selling him, so it comes down to whether we can get the price we want. If we can then he will go and both he and Rafa will be happy. If we can't then he will stay and both he and Rafa will get on with the season.

  2. wanting world class players, and actually affording them are two different things completely.

we are now at the stage where we only need one or two top quality signings away from being "there", whereas in the past we've had to go basement bargain shopping,

and for that, we have Rafa to thank.

he makes mistakes, but name me a manager who hasn't, but with Rafa, more than most, he knows when he's cocked up, and he will get rid.

this thread is like playing russian roulette............so loaded.

LIVERPOOL’S hopes of holding on to Xabi Alonso have been raised after Real Madrid made a move for Italian international midfielder Daniele De Rossi.

The Spanish giants have become increasingly frustrated in their ongoing bid to make Alonso their latest big money acquisition as Liverpool’s resolve to hold on to their midfield playmaker has not weakened.

Rafa Benitez has repeatedly made it clear that the 27-year-old is not for sale despite Real’s remorseless public campaign – and the Reds boss is yet to show any sign he is ready to change stance.

Sources in Spain today indicated that Real are “fed up” with Benitez’s refusal to bow to the demands of his former club by caving in and allowing Alonso to leave Anfield.

In the face of such resistance Real are now examining their options and are ready to test the water to see if AS Roma’s desire to hold on to De Rossi is as strong as Liverpool’s determination to retain Alonso’s services.

Newly installed Real president Fiorentino Perez has already snared Ronaldo, Kaka, Karim Benzema and Raul Albiol in a spending spree which has made world football sit up and take notice of the outlandish goings on at the Bernabeu but he is finding Liverpool a much tougher nut to crack than the other top clubs he has raided.

The growing feeling at Anfield is that unless Real make an incredible offer for Alonso that would allow them to go on a spree of their own, the Reds would be better off keeping hold of the Spanish international even if doing so reduces their own ability to make a massive splash in the transfer market.

Real sporting director Jorge Valdano has again spoken about the issue, admitting that a move for Alonso is now “further away” than ever – a revelation which will be music to the ears of the former Real Sociedad man’s legion of Anfield fans.

  4. I'm not saying that at all - i'm just saying that no club should name a price, then keep raising it, which is what we have done. The transfer market would simply cease to exist if this happened across the board, and Rafa is quick to take the moral high ground when other clubs do this to him (ie Sevilla over Alves, Valencia over Silva, Villa over Barry).

I agree that I cannot see it happening, and that's why it's curious where all those loud and shrill voices adamant that he was leaving ("FACT"!) and that he would "never" play for Rafa again have rather melted away now....

    They have an agenda.

A whack Rafa over the head, agenda.

  5. Unless we sign David Villa, its a disgrace if we let Owen slip through our fingers for him to end up with the mancs.

As I have shown earlier, after the injury he got in the World Cup which sidelined him for a year he has played around 30 PL games each season, not many players will get more PL games than that for us anyway so to his his injuries as something to beat him with just dont add up.

Maybe when Owen dicked on us Rafa saw him for the person he really was, and didn't Rafa try to get him back from Madrid, but Owen dicked on him/us again, and ended up at the barcodes?

Rafa ain't the type of manager who'd forgets things like that.

    Can you blame him?

    I can't.

He and the scum are welcome to each other.

I for one will not lose a jot of sleep.

  6. Ageuro is not going to sit on the bench mate, he is one of the best players in the world and IMO Gerrard's equal in the role behind a striker... he scores just as many if not more in a worse side too...

He is only a few players in the world good enough for us to move Gerrard back for.

Gerrard has moved on. He ain't your standard centre midfield player anymore.

His best position is behind Nando, between the lines.

Can't see what breaking up the partnership would achieve.

Ageuro would get enough games when either Stevie or Nando gets injured, and with sexy tits playing in the confederation cup this season, and the world cup next season, as well as the European championships last summer, he won't be playing every game of the up coming season.

But more importantly, I can't see us spunking 40 million on Ageuro to start with.

  7. I'll put this in the right thread
