  1. Latest from ShowMe on TIA I doubt Gillett gives two fcuks about the academies Nando. Soon he won't be in the LFC picture full stop, so to Gillett it is of little to no consequence what Prince Faisal is planning to do in Saudi Arabia with these academies. Something I have just read in an email sent to me is saying Tom Hicks is looking to shift 25% of his shares & that is coming from someone who very solid. So are we looking at Faisal owning 75% of the club? Up until recently it was just guesses where Hicks was concerned. The numbers being talked about were 5-15% - but $170M for a 25% stake sounds just about right to me. I have to go.
  2. Sky1 have annouced that Psychic medium Derek Acorah will perform a live séance in an attempt to contact Michael Jackson — live on television. Two shows, one called ‘Michael Jackson: The Live Séance’, the other ‘Michael Jackson: The Search For His Spirit’ are to air in November. The shows will apparently take place at a secret location where Michael Jackson once stayed. The show will be presented by June Sarpong, and will give fans a chance to reconnect with their hero. DigitalSpy has the full article. Sky1 director of programmes Stuart Murphy said; “There is an insatiable appetite to find out more about Michael Jackson. He was an extraordinary figure and the curiosity surrounding his life - and his death - stretches well beyond fans of his music.” Well, it’s sure to be a ‘Thriller’ when the show airs, but will leave alot of people feeling ‘Black & White’ as to whether the show will be believable or not. 3. About a year ago, went through the redundancy consultation process at work. There were 5 of us who got a letter of notification of redundancy, and 3 of us who got a second. It turned out that they did all of the above to get rid of 1 person, and it wasn't me. Anyhoo, one year down the line, I've still got the two letters on my personal file. Basically, is there an end date to all this, ie, after the redundancy took place, that was it, or if things turned to the worse again, would I be one step in front of everyone? Can't really find or have spoken to anyone who can give me a definitive answer. Ta.
  4. At this moment in time, the last thing that us, supporters need to be bickering over, is whether Rafa is the right man for the job, or not. Forget that, that really isn't important in the grand scheme of things, but if you do think that, then god help us. We have much bigger problems than that, and it's quite frightening that some people can't see that. Frightening.
  5. Bang on there by Tony. We need to do things in progressive order:- 1. Get rid of the owners. 2. Get rid of the owners. 3. Get rid of the owners. 4. Everything else. The end.
  6. George Gillett's criticism of Rafael Benitez is disrespectful and another PR own goal By Rob Kelly Football Last updated: October 6th, 2009 Once again, one of the Liverpool co-owners has delivered another masterclass in how to lose friends and alienate people. George Gillett, hardly a local hero on Merseyside anyway, has delivered a withering blast at manager Rafael Benitez, a man whose popularity in the red half of Liverpool is in direct contrast to that of his immediate bosses’. Talk about a PR own goal. Talk about passing the buck. Bad move George, bad move. Gillett, in an interview with a representative of the fans’ union Spirit of Shankly, said: “In the last 18 months, we have invested £128 million on top of what has come in. That means it should be getting better. “Now if it’s not getting better, it’s not Gillett and Hicks, it’s the manager, it’s the scouting. You have to make sure you balance out your analysis. There was plenty of money, so if you have any complaints, take a look at the ins and outs.” Presumably the only way Gillett could have made himself less popular would have been if he had delivered his ill-advised comments in an exclusive interview to The Sun. Does he have no sense? Did he really not know how incendiary his ill-advised comments would be? He and fellow owner Tom Hicks have had a rocky relationship with Benitez since their arrival, and the relationship has had a number of low points, most notably in November 2007 when Hicks reportedly told the manager to concentrate on training and coaching the players he has. This led to Benitez’s extraordinary press conference in which he repeatedly answered questions with the phrase, “As always I am focused on training and coaching my team”. The relationship seemed to have reached its nadir, but Benitez did not resign (as some felt he would) and since then Liverpool have gone from strength to strength. However, after a disappointing start to the season, Gillett’s blast at Benitez has upset the Anfield apple cart once again. The Spaniard is likely to be furious with this latest barb, and may even contemplate his future. How can he be expected to maintain a title push when the co-owners show such a lack of respect for their manager? Gillett’s latest comments may even be enough to push Benitez over the precipice. I hope not, for Liverpool are moving forward under the Spaniard, despite their underwhelming start to the campaign. But he may just have had enough, and who could really blame him if he has? 7. Gillett rubbishes Liverpool takeover reports Liverpool co-owner George Gillett has played down speculation that a buy-out of the Barclays Premier League club is imminent. Widespread reports suggested Prince Faisal bin Fahd bin Abdullah al-Saud's F6 investment vehicle had been given the go-ahead to carry out exclusive due diligence with a view to buying into the club after he attended Liverpool's 6-1 win over Hull at Anfield on Saturday. However, Gillett insisted the future ownership of the club was not on the agenda at the meeting while F6 director Barry Didato confirmed the due diligence process taking place relates to other commercial opportunities and "does not involve the possibility of an immediate investment in Liverpool", with any possible transaction being "several months away". Gillett told Press Association Sport's The Sport Briefing: A sport business information website and newsletter service "We had a marvellous meeting with them on Saturday and they were impressed with the club, but the academies in Saudi Arabia and North Africa and their possible involvement in NASCAR-type racing in the Middle East were the only items on the agenda. "We have entered into a period of exclusive discussions regarding the possibility of introducing NASCAR-type racing to the Middle East, but the memorandum of understanding does not cover anything else." Gillett and co-owner Tom Hicks confirmed on Tuesday that they had "retained Bank of America Merrill Lynch and Rothschild to evaluate the possibility of new investors injecting equity into Liverpool FC". A joint statement added: "The process is at an early stage, there is no agreement with any party and reports to the contrary are wholly inaccurate." Didato, F6's director of strategic investment, told The Sport Briefing: A sport business information website and newsletter service that the agreement signed at the weekend focused on the creation of football academies in Saudi Arabia and North Africa as well as an opportunity in stock car racing, while the prospects of a possible investment in Liverpool lagged behind the first two projects as a "distant third". Didato said: "As far as investment in Liverpool is concerned, that would be a long way off. A lot of people have jumped the gun and any possible investment would be several months away. "The agreement signed (at the weekend) leaves the door open for it (possible future investment in Liverpool), but that was certainly not the focus of it." Didato added that no talks have been staged between F6 and Hicks, who, like Gillett, owns 50% of Liverpool. "George has a partner there and has his own issues to work through," Didato added. "Mr Hicks will also have his own issues and we are not sure what he wants to do. "Another issue is the club's debt (of around £245million). Prince Faisal will not put forward investment capital to just clean up a balance sheet. He would only want to use money to take the club forward. It would be long-term money." Didato said that Prince Faisal would have an open mind regarding the ultimate stake he could hold in the club. "His Highness is open to anything and is open to being a minority shareholder, but he has tremendous favourability towards the brand and institution of Liverpool," Didato added. "His Highness would need to be invited by George and it would have to be at the right time for George. There would need to be a shared vision between all of the parties." Gillett recently agreed to sell the Montreal Canadiens National Hockey League ice hockey team for a reported US dollars 575million, but he insisted that transaction had nothing to do with any developments regarding the rest of his sporting portfolio, which includes the Richard Petty Motorsports NASCAR team as well as Liverpool. Gillett also said that the Canadiens, arguably the most famous team in NHL history, were in safe hands under the new owners, the Molson family, who agreed to the takeover earlier this month. "It was with great reluctance that I decided to sell the Canadiens," Gillett added. "It is a fabulous club and I have been very fortunate to have had more than one love affair in sport. "They (the Molson family) have a relationship with the club that goes back 50 years, and that's awfully important. They are young and enthusiastic and will bring great energy to the Canadiens. "They will also bring passion, new ideas and a fresh perspective, which is always good."
