  1. Daniel Agger is not actually injury prone, but unfortunately has to miss certain games because of the fact that's he's water soluble. His recent extended run of games is due to the club having him laminated in the summer.
  2. Same formation as far as I could tell (in that it was still 4-3-3), but Adorjan really shouldn't be the sitting midfielder; he plays best behind the striker where he can pick out clever passes (though he does need to move the ball on quicker & play at a higher tempo in general). It seemed like the plan was always to give him 20-25 minutes before bringing him off for Lucas, so he ended up playing in Lucas' position rather than his own.
  3. I'm very much a lurker and rarely post so I may be remembering entirely wrong, and if I am I sincerely apologise, but didn't he accuse Rafa of excepting a mini van from NotW as some sort of bribe for dropping his legal action against them? And Rafa actually donated that van (and the rest of the settlement) to a school (though to be fair I think atk did acknowledge that and semi-apologised)?
  4. Is it just me, or does Suarez look to be getting a bit more frustrated by the game? It seems like he's trying to do a lot more on his own and maybe doesn't trust some of the players around him enough to pass to them. On the plus side though, it's pretty damn obvious how much he hates losing and he's one of the few players we have that doesn't just cave as soon as we go behind.
  5. I don't think Reina was ever the Shay Given kind of keeper that throws himself about to make acrobatic saves. He's more about being in a good position so he doesn't have to do that; I can't remember Reina doing many 'one for the cameras' type saves in his time at the club. Most of his best saves this season have been one on ones, so they aren't quite as memorable as they can be put down to bad finishing just as easily as good goalkeeping. I can't argue against him not being in as good form as the past several seasons, but he's been nowhere near as bad as some are making out (not necessarily in this thread). I do wish we'd get Valero back though since Pepe seemed to love working with him and he helped out our strikers a fair bit too. We'd have a proper playmaker though.
  6. I have to disagree with you about Kagawa; I think he's plenty creative. He has good movement, a great first touch and can either play the final pass or finish it off himself.
  7. Alonso wasn't slow in possession though, and had much better positional sense (plus is just a way better footballer in general). I know it's a bit twattish to pick this one point out of that whole post, but as a comparison between the two players it seems to offer a superficial similarity whilst avoiding the point. It's astonishing just how much we've allowed our midfield to weaken over the last three years, this season included, imo. That said, I largely agree with your point about overreacting (even if it can be a tiny bit cathartic).
  8. I agree that he didn't impress in his few games for Real, but having watched him at Getafe, I'm gutted if it's true that he turned us down. Of the Spanish wide players we've been linked with, I'd prefer Mata and/or Carzola, but Leon would be a massive improvement to our squad.
  9. Top bloke is Bob. Quality defender and excellent taste in books.
  10. Xabi Prieto is class when he's on form. If we're going for a Spanish right winger though, I'd rather us try to rescue Pedro Leon from Real Madrid.
  11. If you'd actually seen him play you wouldn't have to ask. He's good defensively, good going forawrd and is probably the quickest defender in the country. He was good for Sheffield Utd, excellent for QPR and good so far for Villa. I'm not saying he's better than Kelly, but there's really no need to downplay someone else's ability to make Kelly look better. His talent speaks for itself and if he's not been picked for England yet, who gives a shit?
  12. To be fair, Kyle Walker is a brilliant prospect at right back. He was great for QPR and seems to have carried that form to Villa.
  13. Given that any replacement would almost certainly be the top man for their current team, it seems unlikely that we'd be able to get in someone of the required quality over the next three days. That said, I do like the fantasy signings game and would be made up with either Llorente or Lavezzi.
  14. To be honest, most of last season is kind of hazy to me. I know I watched those games, but I'll be damned if I can remember anything specific about them. I think all the fan squabbling from last season may have actually overpowered the football in my memory. Today, I thought Maxi got into good positions more often when he was playing from the left, but it's possible that it's partly down to N'Gogs introduction leaving more space for him and us getting more players forward in general.
