The next manager should be able to play "politics" as successfully as Rafa and thereby save the club from disintegration while also building a platform for future glory. Klinsman should be out-politicked by the next manager, too. The next manager should be Rafa prefrerably on a ten-year contract.
  2. The next manager should be sacked because he is a H & G appointment.

  4. He played well again - one of the most consistent performers this season. I agree that his shooting has been poor, which is surprising since it was one of his stronger points when he played in Brazil. I think he will recover that skill as his confidence grows. But several of our defensive players shoot badly. I've lost count the number of times Mascherano blasts it over the bar or wide when he has a good view of goal from 20-25 yards. Skirtel is worse. Apart from his wonder goal last week, Insuana also wastes many opportunities. Carragher rarely tries and when he does its usually well off target.
  5. He didn't dive. He jumped to avoid a sliding, studs-up tackle that was coming in to him at speed from the side and slightly from the rear. If he had not jumped he would have been cut down at the ankles or shins. Since he was running his jump also had a forward motion and he had to come down somewhere. Given the law of gravity the ground was the only place he could have landed. I don't know if the referee was wrong. The tackle was intimidating and dangerous and Ngog had every right to jump to avoid it. It definitely interfered with his progress. But I suppose you don't give penalties unless it is clear cut - perhaps it was for the ref.
  6. Its always fun to say "what if..." but the reality is we have one of football's finest managers and probably the only one from that small group of "super-managers" who would persist through every kind of difficulty including unstable and changing ownership and erratic funding.
  7. There is a difference between an "article" and an "interview". You are confusing the two. In an "article" the author is purporting to report facts and then analyze them. In an "interview" he provides a record of a series of questions and answers. Bascombe regails the world with "articles" almost weekly in which no sources are cited for the facts and no direct quotes given. As for the Bascombe "interviews" you mentioned. I can understand why Carragher and Gerrard gave him interviews - they had a commercial relationship with him when he was the approved reporter for the Liverpool Echo. Xabi is not a Liverpool player. The so-called "interview" you say he gave when he was with LFC was not an interview - it was an "article" that provided no source or direct quotations. In fact it was based on information provided by Xabi's agent in his attempt to pressure Rafa to release Xabi for far less money than was eventually achieved. The agent knew that Bascombe could be used. Meanwhile, Xabi has virtually denied the content and spirit of that article. Kirk has vigorously denied that he said the things that Bascombe claims he said. I'm not aware of any interview given by Reina to Bascombe - then again I don't read that rag unless it is reported on a forum.
  8. The Bascombe article is not based on any information from anyone. Its pure invention by a couple of small-minded hacks trying to fill their weekly quota to earn their cheque and save their jobs. Bascombe has so few genuine sources at LFC that he has to rely on the less than subtle suggestion that Gerrard and Carragher are using him to further their anti-Raf agenda. Like most of his articles there is no verification, source or direct quotes. Its called the Kraptalk technique. As we know from his past practices Bascombe thinks being used is normal and honourable for a journalist. But if it were true those two players would be sacked and quite rightly so.
  9. So why did you used to preface every post you made about Rafa with the qualification that you were not against him but merely having an objective intellectual debate about his strenghts and weaknesses. Lately you have abandoned that obviously false pose and are now openly admitting that you want him gone. Has the mob in the gutter press given you the courage of your convictions.
  10. That NoW article is complete bunkum. No doubt Bascombe will disown it privately to his cronies on here claiming that although he is a fearlessly independent journalist who specialises in taking on their common enemy, Nasty Rafa, he is also a whore who must lie down and spread his cheeks whenever his sub-editor feels like doing it to LFC.
  11. Given the raw material he was worth a punt but not at the price we paid - that was too much for "potential" no matter who agreed to pay that price - Parry or Rafa. With the constant disappointment as the years have passed his potential is starting to look suspect. Djibril Cissé was also maddening but, IMO, more consistent and more effective than Babel - and look what happened to him!
  12. I remember one of the resident hysterics on here going on and on in similar fashion about Momo Sissoko and then Peter Crouch (whom he used to call "Lurch" until Peter began as scoring as freely for England as he had been for LFC and the hysteric in question got shouted down). He has tried to make Leiva Lucas the new "Lurch". He is failing miserably at that, too. Its comical how consistently the "safe" targets of his invective turn around and bight him in the bum.
  13. Rafa referring to the Kop anthem was not as desperate as a forum calling itself "The Liverpool Way" when one of its main function seems to be to give curmudgeonly internet dinosaurs a platform to snigger daily at the manager of LFC.
  14. The title of this thread is laughable. Rather than an "Excellent Read " it should be "A Bitter's Bible". The following rebuttal says it all. It really is an excellent read: "Winter's tale - in reply to Henry's Hatchet" /http://robbohuyton.blogspot.com/2009/11/winter-tale-in-reply-to-henrys-hatchet.html
  15. But if you fail to renew your membership the Lord who giveth you the power taketh it away. It all comes back to net spend.
  16. Such unclever nonsense wrapped in such an unfunny metaphor.
  17. No matter how you contrive to use the situation as a rod to beat Rafa, the fact is that the medical staff at Melwood including their specialist medical consultants decided he should have an operation some time ago. He had it. He was then carefully assessed by them before they gave Rafa the all-clear to play him. He got the latest injury playing for England and then over-training for England - something he could have objected to but didn't. It has nothing to do with LFC or Rafa. The same LFC medical staff then said he could play against Lyon but he was to come off if he felt any pain. He did feel pain so he came off. Where is the "overplaying him" in this? No player has been more coddled than he. He has been going to France, Germany and America for specialist treatment since he was 18 not to mention all the specialist treatment he gets at Melwood.
  18. "Well if he did go there and someone else bought the players for him maybe he would win things?" "Tedious" So that's your excuse!
  19. No ifs ands and buts. No dithering from me. He is a classy player who will be a Liverpool great so long as he is not injured a lot. The one surprising thing for me was his height and strength compared with others on the pitch.
  20. How about a variation on this well-known song Poppa Piccolino: All over Italy they know his concertina, Poppa Piccolino, Poppa Piccolina, He plays so prettily to ev’ry signorina Poppa Piccolina from sunny Italy. This clip starts with the chorus. Here's another version of the full song: YouTube - DOLORES GRAY - POPPA PICCOLINO
  21. Tomkins was referring back to the comment he made in his original article that Rafa had said it would have been nice to have kept Crouch (and other understudies) but he would not pay the exorbitant wages other clubs were prepared to pay to compensate players like Couch for not being first choice. He appeared to be insinuating that Crouch might have been persuaded to stay if we had offered him an extended contract with a big pay raise. All we got told at the time was that Crouch was under contract. Rafa wanted him to stay. But Crouch wanted to move on to get more games.
