  1. Despite absolutely everything and the fun of Saturday, I really don't know where I stand with him yet.

I will say that not withstanding the fact I do want to see more, every successful side in history has had a bit of a nark in the team.

    For United see Keane

    For Arsenal see Viera

    For City see Silva

For Chelsea see absolutely all of the pricks.

  2. As funny as it is, I really don't want to see this being the end of Everton.

But this has the potential to really snowball and have far reaching consequences.

    1. Further points deduction when the next set of accounts are released

    2. Ownership Debacle carrying on

    3. Stadium Delays

    4. Being sued by other clubs

It's really really really funny, but on the other hand it's the top blues you feel sorry for. I don't know.

I hope they get relegated, I hope it shit for them for a very very long time but they shouldn't be losing their club.

  3. BBC saying 777 have provided an advanced loan for working capital in relation to the stadium, which would scare me massively given the reservations about 777.

It really is all or nothing I think for Everton over the next few years, relegation will absolutely ruin that football club to the the brink. Staying up in a new stadium makes them somewhat viable.

  4. Every so often my mind turns to Henderson and the extent of which he's just absolutely fucked it up.

The interview he did was bordering on lunacy. I know I should just get over it, but the fact that he's probably damaged his reputation to such an extent that I really don't think he can come back to Liverpool for even a testimonial is just bananas to me.

His comments about not feeling wanted are absolute bollocks and the lack of sincerity in the remainder of the interview just angered me to be honest.

What should have been the legacy of the most successful Liverpool captain in the modern era, who led our team to unparallel heights is now reduced to a footnote. The fact it has ended like this really upsets me to be honest. There should be monuments built to his time at Liverpool and instead it'll be just that, a foot note tarnished by a selfish move that contradicts everything he was supposedly about. The loss is ultimately his, but we've been denied a lifetime of adulation of a man who really was arguably our greatest ever captain.

I'm broadly ok with him doing all he can to make this world cup as it will be his last one, but afterwards he needs to be jibbing England. He's not an automatic choice, we play a shitload of games that we need him available for and playing international footy doesn't help with that.

If he doesn't quit after the WC, that's not a good look for him at all.

For as long as England have a chance of success I think he sticks with it

I'd like him to retire, but only into my loving arms

Poverty is a huge factor but there are other issues involved.

    Education,lack of opportunities etc

Like I said yesterday its hardly a coincidence that crime, drugs and violent are much worse in deprived areas than more prosperous places.

Then how come the majority of the population within the same economical, societal and opportunity demographic of which we are talking about are law abiding? I am feeling very conscious of the fact that I do not want to trivialize issues that do affect life chances of people and how that impacts.

But kids are being stabbed by other kids, kids are being shot in their own home.  To indicate wider economical and societal challenges are a key cause of this actually does a disservice to the wider population who are law abiding, talented and ambitious who live lives in spite of the shared challenges.

We as a city have to change how we glamorize this underworld of drugs, knives and take ownership of the problem. The government aren't going to help, so there needs to be a concerted multi agency approach to this.

It angers me beyond belief, we like to think of ourselves as better, we take pride in our city and shout down any criticism with gusto. It's been like this for years, its poignant that the Rhys Jones anniversary has come around and absolutely fuck all has changed since.

  7. The more time goes on, the more the poverty issue is becoming less and less of a reason.

Decent people live in the same communities as those committing these crime, who are arguably worse off and come from worse backgrounds, yes different things affect different people I get that.

Liverpool has a huge problem because this culture has been glamorized for years, at various levels. Its depressing, it angers me. We are meant to be better than this but we're not.

  8. Couple of thoughts

    1. I really want him to be good enough to get the Liverpool job at some point.

    2. I think based upon certain interactions he struggles with the fact he's working with players who aren't as good as who he used to play with

    3. It's the first game of the season

    4. Its early days in his managerial career

It's mad that a captain who has lifted pretty much every possible trophy as skipper of possibly our greatest side ever won't get close to 95% of Liverpool fans all time Reds 11's.

I think Henderson gets in every Liverpool side of the past 20-30 years.  Even 08/09. Henderson at his peak is hugely influential and his quality is often forgotten about, his drive and work ethic is his biggest asset and the impact it has higher up the pitch can't be underestimated.

At the risk of making some mad shout, my view on Henderson in comparison to say Alonso is that whilst Alonso has more natural ability, I think if you put peak Henderson in the 08/09 team, 01/02 team and 13/14 as well we win the leagues on those occasions.

Better than the 1st half at Old Trafford last October?

Yes. Nothing compares in my eyes. The achievement maybe bigger in terms of historical significance, but the actual intensity of the play was something to behold. Weren't Arsenal top of the league then?

I just can't figure out who would replace him.

The Tories aren't sorry for anything they've done, the replacement won't be contrite and benevolent, but they need a stable and sane person to take them into a GE.  Just not a lot of candidates.

Jeremy Hunt has made his position clear, I reckon it'll be him.

On the comments on Curtis Jones on the previous page...

He had a very stop / start season - didn't he have COVID19 at the start, then had a concussion and a few other bumps along the way.

I really liked him when he came in the side, left wing, playing off the cuff, a bit of a maverick, happy to take the 5th penalty etc etc etc. I think playing him in central midfield has limited the good things about him and asked him to do things he's not entirely comfortable with.

Despite his talent on the ball, IMO, Jones hasn't shown the defensive / controlling tempo aptitude to play in midfield. There was a couple of games early in the season, when he played there he was invisible. I know when he played towards the end of the season it was against "lesser" opposition, I thought he looked more mature. He was very good at Southampton.

Maybe we're asking too much of him? He's come into the side later than say Owen or Fowler and once he's come in, he's been asked to learn a new position, which is likely against his natural maverick instincts.

To me, he's not shown an attitude problem. He's been giving it biftas at the trophy lifts we've had and looks a fun part of the squad.

He is clearly a very, very talented player. The jury is still out if he's a central midfielder.

Jones has a touch of the 2012-2013 Henderson's about him. Every time I watch him he tries to do the right thing, but sometimes it doesn't come off like it didn't for Henderson, you can tell there is a player there and if he can bulk up and build himself upon Henderson's style he'll be a cracking player for us for years.

Body language is obviously not a clear barometer of anything, really, but I’ve seen a few times when he’s been subbed early and he doesn’t like it.

He’s still a very good midfielder, do you worry he might think about moving to another big team where he could still be the guy?

I’d be thinking that, in his situation, personally.

There will be a transition for Henderson coming forward, but its not anytime soon. I think he's had a great season. Again he captained a side, played most amount of games and came 15 minutes away from winning the league.

You can't ask for much more else.
