I have no problem with England picking Buttler or Bess but the timing is poor. Buttler has played 4 first class matches in about 18 months and has been playing white ball cricket all winter but the selectors expect him to score runs against a swinging ball at Lords in May. Won't happen. And Bess may have had a good season last year but has obviously had a slow start this time around.

I think Lehman will resign after this Test, and Smith, Warner, Lyon and any other members of the 'leadership group' will be sent home. I wouldn't be surprised if they're banned from their winter schedule as well.

My misses is from the Philippines so my resolution is to learn Tagalog. I've always wanted to learn another language so it makes sense.

I'm going to Pakistan for a month with work in a couple of weeks (not a holiday but will try and get out a bit) then am off to Nepal in February. Nothing else booked yet but will probably do a week in Jordan in March and then maybe India in April or May. I'm undecided on my summer holiday at the minute, it will probably be the States, South Africa, Korea or Japan though.

I did that in September, it was great. Absolutely loved it. We stopped in Hue, Hoi An and Nha Trang.

I hate the way the subject of Rey's parents has been handled. TFA alluded to them being known to us with a number of massive hints; the X wing pilot doll, X wing pilot helmet, The Millenium Falcon being owned by the person that 'raised' Rey. So it's obvious that JJ Abrams meant for her parents to be a Solo or Skywalker or whoever. I don't mind the route that Johnson has gone in TLJ (I'd prefer her not to have parents we know) but it undermines what we saw in TFA. The way Johnson dealt with it was sloppy as shit too. Rey wouldn't be interested in 'who' her parents are, she never says they're Jedi so why would Kylo tell her "your parents are nobody". He's obviously talking to the audience and not Rey here. Rey's question would be 'where are my parents' whether they were Jedi or scrap dealers. Also, we see her parents fly off in a spacecraft in TFA which doesn't quite fit with the story given in TLJ. They give their kid away as they haven't got a pot to piss in but they still have a spaceship? What? They should have had the same director to all 3 films, it would have been much more consistent that way.

I agree with Section about the New Republic/First Order. I know what's happening but it's not clear and given that all I saw of the New Republic was a few people standing on a balcony in TFA, I have no connection with it. We should have seen the New Republic in action with people living in peace before the First Order rose up and took over.

There is one major difference between Snoke and Palpatine though; we hadn't seen anything before A New Hope. Now, we've seen what happens before TFA and given that Snoke appears to be old it's only natural for the audience to ask where he was in the films that have gone before. That MUST be answered, the fact that it's not is just ridiculous and makes me not care about Snoke at all. Even if they say he wasn't involved and was living in the Outer Rim, they have to at least address it.
