  1. Ace book that. The story used for Goodfellas is pretty much word for word how the book reads, give or take a few name changes. Thing is tho, the book was written as recounted by Hill to Nicolas Pileggi and you can't blame him for not wanting to come across as a total cunt in it. Read a lot about the Mafia, Sicillian and American and there's certainly no honour among thieves. Kill or be killed, rat or be ratted, and there seems to be few who wouldn't have gone down the same route as Hill given the same circumstances, Bosses and all. What's the names of the programmes? Has anyone got links where I might download them?
  2. We have a few real nice theatres in Auckland, all modern with nice seats and roomy bars, not like the old flea-pits with midget sized seats. Trouble is, all the plays are shite, arthouse bollocks or fuckwit musicals like Rocky Horror Show, which every cunt in this country loves cos Richard O'Brien is from Hamilton (conveniently missing the point that he's lived in England since about 1956). Thing I hate most is going along cos of some 'respected' thespian type (a la McKellen) being in it only to find out they ham it up worse than the local am-dram queen and wannabe Ken Barlow.
  3. Oh yes! It is kicking my bottom as I type. Cheers
  4. Pull Together - Shack 1999 3 Wise Men - James Blunt 2005
  5. Done it twice. Once to Sydney (went back to UK after 2 years) and then again to Auckland. I'd take that list with a big pinch of salt tho, as it changes every year, although Vancouver, Vienna, Melbourne, Sydney, Auckland etc always come in quite high (nice to see Auckland slip from 6th to 19th in just 2 years - well deserved!). Melbourne's a lovely place but not without its own bother, much like most other places. People move to Adelaide (Drabelaide!) and Melbourne and don't realise the winters are horrible; cold, wet and miserable. The summers in Melbourne can be crazy too, 45° one day, 25° the next. I was in Sydney just last week for my birthday and altho I love the place, quite frankly after 5 days I couldn't wait to get home. Perth is cool too, but new migrants often overlook just how fuckin far away from EVERYTHING it is. You'd best like it cos there's nowhere else for 2000 miles east and South Africa to the west. Having said that, I wouldn't live in the UK again. Not for a big fuckin clock, mate. BTW - back at me mum's for 2 weeks in June if anyone fancies a pint.
  6. That's a top tune tho, especially the "aaah, aaah, ah, ah, ah, ah ah" bit at the end. Shame really, cos Martin Fry is a very good lyricist (lots of oh so clever stuff on the Lexicon Of Love and How To Be A Zillionaire). Loads of really shite lyrics about, hear tons every day on every banal radio station. One that's always got me, mostly because of the phoney sincerity and sentimentality of the whole song really sticks in me throat: "I couldn't live without my phone, but you don't even have a home" Dyke Spice, Mel Chisselwissel at her best (or is that worst)
  7. Stray Toasters by Bill Sienkewicz is a sublimely trippy tale, beautifully executed in the style that Bill made his own and everyone copied. I think it's recently been re-issued in one volume - well worth hunting down. Frank Miller's Elektra Assassin and Daredevil re-tellings (also illustrated brilliantly by BS) are really a must have in any graphic novel collection. Anything by Moore - try getting hold of the unfinished Big Numbers (only 2 of them) and try to work out where it was going. If you don't have V For Vendetta and Watchmen then you're not really a comic fan! Not sure about Gaiman?? Try Violent Cases which is a short and easy read and a good starter for his style, or read Good Omens, and then tackle Sandman. Batman - Year One is easily the pick of the bunch of the 'new' Batman stories, Dark Knight Returns and Killing Joke follow closely for me, maybe Arkham Asylum, but all must-haves
  8. Mouth. Especially if she's cute. Under 20 and you could argue that the front door would be the place to be but if they've had a few sprogs it's like chucking a sausage up an entry.
  9. Survivor by Chuck Pahluniuk. Just finished, didn't take long but really good, usual Chuck stuff - a mad story full of crazy fuckheads and enough plot holes to fill the Albert Hall. Seems written more as a vehicle for his social commentary, digs at organised religion and US decadence than as an excuse to spin a yarn. Not as good as Choke or Fight Club but well worth the $26 I shelled out for it. Read in tandem with Gangs by Tony Thompson which I bought at the airport cos I had $30 Aus left in me wallet. Investigative insight into some of Britain's most mentallist bastards you'd hope you're never unfortunate enough to come across (especially the Ruskies and Balkans). Seems there's some serious wedge to made from drugs tho, wish I was hard :whatever:
  10. She's 38, so that's 1 younger than me! Shit, I thought she was older, not that she looks it, just thought she was one of those birds who came along into films much later in her career, like Rene Russo etc. and thought she was in her 40's by now.
  11. Only two ways to cook a steak - rare and ruined. Just cut the horns off and wipe its arse. Hot english mustard. Being a nation of meatlovers the Kiwis can cook up a mean steak in most establishments. I like a Boston chop, which is basically a 2 inch thick rib-fillet with the bone left on, bloody rare but singed black at the edges.
  12. I don't even know what he's talking about ;)

  14. There's a good "home movie" DVD on eBay called - Istanbul The Movie. Made by a fan and has footage of getting there, being there, the game, the crowd etc. Only 6 quid. Brother in law sent me a copy over. He's a gooner but even he said it was a good watch. It's very much a home movie so don't expect quality directing, editing etc, but gives a real feel of what it was like to have been there.
