Clubs like Celtic, Ajax and Benfica could be every bit as big a club anyone else if they were in this. Who wouldn't want to play for Ajax if the standard of opposition was as good as the PL for example? A top player would rather live in Amsterdam or Lisbon than Manchester if the pay and chance of success were equal.

Exactly. Half the glamour and attraction in something like this would be making it a truly European league.

  2. My initial reaction is that its somehow wrong. But that ship also sailed about 25 years ago. We missed the first boat clinging to the past, and it took way to long to rectify it.

But my gut also tells me that it would be great to fuck over the likes of Everton, PGMOL, Martin Samuel ,Karen Brady and lately Jaime Carragher.

Messi scored 4 goals in the 2014 World Cup when Argentina got to the final and lost to Germany.  He won the Golden Ball for best player at the World Cup.

Maradona scored 4 in the 1986 World Cup when Argentina got to the final and beat Germany.  He won the Golden Ball for best player at the World Cup.

Maradona got 5 goals in 1986, and got better and more dominant as the tournament progressed.

Messi started well in 2014 but was a nervous wreck by the end of it and probably shouldn't have won that golden ball.

I also don't buy that Messi has had poor teammates. Aguero, Di Maria, Higuain, Mascherano, Zabaltea, Tevez, Dybala off the top of my head over the years.

But probably would say that he has poor managers internationally, Diego chief among them.

I think there is no question that the pressure of world cups gets to him.

I always said that if we're a point behind City going into April, then we'll win it - they will probably play 4 highly intensive CL games over a month, plus a midweek game at OT, plus Cardiff at home midweek, plus a sapping Cup semi final at Wembley.

Palace away and Leicester at home will be sandwiched away between those highly intense CL games.

Providing we lose to Bayern ( which we will), we will have one game per week now - our two disappointing performances at OT and Woodison came after midweek games when we're never as sharp.

It's set up perfectly for us to win it in the 1st weekend of May - Rafa giving us an easy ride and Brendan getting a draw at City.

I keep seeing posts like this but we are the ones looking leggy and nervous with our game per week.

Probably understandably, context and perspective go out the window at times like this.

I remember boos at the end of a 0-0 home draw with Fulham (I think) that put us top of the table under Rafa.

That thought has crossed my mind a lot over the last few days.  Its ok, it should have been 7 but we're 5 points clear, its ok we're still 3 points clear, its ok we've still got a game in hand. Reminds me a lot of that year with Rafa.

  6. It might seem obvious but I think Klopp needs to tell him to play the whistle. He has been caught two or three times stopping waiting for the foul which didn't come. So far he has gotten away with it but between that and getting pushed off the ball I don't think Klopp will trust him to get up to the pace and physicality of the league this year.
