  1. Gerrard just hit the cross bar and we're suddenly looking dangerous on the counter-attack. However, Wigan still appear to be dominating us. Shame Maxi is coming off after playing such a beautiful ball a moment ago.
  2. I love what Fernando has done here. He is hardly going to come about and name names: "Gillett and Hicks are cancers to LFC" etc. However, he has had a dig and everyone knows it. I also respect the support he has shown the manager. Rafa hasn't had a good year. No doubt about that. But he's one year into a five year contract and we don't have the funds to dismiss him and start over. I wish Carra and Gerrard would follow suit.
  3. I hate him, but I don't really see how RVN can be ranked lower than Rooney or Larsson. I don't care if Larsson did well in Scotland. He is not the 10th best striker in that list by a long, long way.
  4. I haven't had the time to come on here recently. Finally, I get back on, looking forward to some good football discussion, read this dude's posts and immediately want to log off. What a completely clueless crumb.
  5. This line cracked me up: Supporters have been impressed; Pennant has been told they believe he is too good for them. Great journalism that. Let's take everything Jermaine says as gospel and put it in print. As for his comments regarding Rafa. Even Steve McClaren didn't think he was good enough. Its not Rafa, its you Jermaine.
  6. It amounts to the same thing though Dave. We buy these strikers, presumably to be first 11 players. They don't cut it as first 11 players, there is friction between player and manager as a result, and the player leaves. As a result of our inability to keep match ready, good strikers happy, we are stuck with the likes of Ngog and Voronin. And Voronin's already spent a season on loan due to lack of football. Its incredible really. The first few years of Rafa's reign, the press focused on the rotation system. Yet, its clear that there must be a well established first 11 within Melwood, because despite the 'rotation system' we can't please any of our strikers, bar Torres.
  7. This occurred to me today. What is with players arriving at Anfield expecting first team football? Keane, Crouch, Heskey and Bellamy all left to play 1st team football but are now all in situations at other clubs where they can hardly be considered automatic 1st choice, yet they don't seem to be fussing. That really pisses me off. Liverpool is bigger than all of their present clubs. If asked to be on the bench for the good of the team, this is the club to do it at. And right now, if they were still at the club, they would be getting their chance to shine. Anyway, i don't have the time to expand on this post. I just look at our depth and think, what the hell is wrong with those players?
  8. I was especially sad to see Xabi leave this summer, because of how well he played last season. The previous summer, I was ambivalent about selling him. I liked him as a player but I was of the opinion, rightly or wrongly, that he had been below par for 2 seasons. So, if we thought we could improve by replacing him, I would have gone along with it. The way I interpret the comments today, I can't help but think, if Rafa hadn't attempted to sell him last summer, would Xabi have played as well last season? There is strong evidence across a number of sports that players angling for a trade or a new contract, raise their game. But then again, Xabi has always appeared to be the model professional, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.
  9. The joke itself is flawed. The title should be (BREAKING NEWS) LFC SIGN SPIDERMAN!! because if I am not mistaken, Spiderman has not yet revealed himself to the world at large to be Peter Parker. If Simon wanted to use the current title, he should have photoshoped in a picture of Peter Parker. And finally, how much would Liverpool pay for his services? He'd be out at all hours of the night, we couldn't rely on him to attend, let alone complete, training sessions or even games for that matter. It would also be hard to fine him for these indiscretions considering he would use the whole "saving the world" excuse. He would be a waste of money. All in all, a very stupid, shit joke by Simon.
  10. Every young Spaniard dreams of playing for either Barcelona or Real Madrid. So, everytime a Spanish player is recruited from a club other than Barca or Real (or prior to their playing for the first team at that club) and brought to a big club in England and performs well, it will only be a matter of time before they are drawn back to Spain. Xabi is 27. If he doesn't go this summer, he probably will next summer. I don't like it. I don't want him to go. I want him to remain loyal and recognise that we can have a real crack at the title this season. But I think he's going to leave and I think he would have regardless of how Rafa treated him. I can practically hear Valdano's recruitment pitch to him "Hear that Mr. Alonso. That is the sound of inevitability." Let's just hope Torres is the exception to this theory.
  11. If we still had Sissoko, I would have chosen to sell Masch. As we don't I have to select Xabi. Disclaimer: I do not believe Sissoko is as good as Masch. I just believe our system of play now requires an all action defensive midfielder. So to be left with neither Masch nor Momo would hurt us more than to lose Xabi.
  12. He congratulated Manchester United. That's sufficient if not too much. I wouldn't have.
  13. The most annoying ESPN commentator since Jean Paul Dellacamera. I hated that guy and he commentated every sport on ESPN International.
  14. Not quite the same. Denzel should have won the previous year for 'The Hurricane' but they gave it to Russel Crowe for 'Gladiator.' Then wen Denzel won, Russel should actually have won for 'A Beautiful Mind.' The history books should be amended and the Oscars swapped.
