  1. The rejection of Corbyn wasn't a surprise, what telling was how total and final it was. He and his devotees will continue to blame the media for this humiliation, but two flaws of his had made this fiasco quite inevitable, IMO: 1. Brexit means Brexit. After 4 years of unrelenting infighting and going in circles, the general public just want it done. Corbyn chose to sit on the fence. To be fair, in his estimation, the Tories would self-immolate over the impossible issue, leaving him as the only game in town -- and it had nearly worked, the period between the end of May and beginning of Johnson was a rough storm that nearly wrecked HMS Tories. 2. "Blame the west first" politics don't work outside far-left and certain trust-fund babies echo chambers. To the average Joes and Janes, white guilt was not a luxury they could afford; and to immigrants like your truly who had a longer and wider historical perspective than "imperialism is terrible" and "colonialism sucked" -- it's intellectually bankrupted horseshit. The general public simply do not want people with suspected patriotism to be their leader. If Corbyn were an academic or a priest, I would have respected him. As it was, good riddance to the useless bastard.
  2. Mark Wright. Brought in when Souness first arrived, didn't impress until Roy Evans took over and changed to 3atb. Michael Thomas too. He started to play rather well when everybody had already given up on him.
  3. He's rattled, alright. The booing affected his game, it didn't make him behaving this way. His ego just couldn't take that the "losers" he had to burn all bridges to leave behind were going to make him a "loser." So out of all the people he could lash out on, he picked the lowest one on the totem pole. He's a fucking coward.
  4. Talking about ludicrous transfers could be fun -- until people started sliding into wishful thinking -- then it got annoying.
  5. Half of the team were put there to play themselves into form, unsurprisingly we didn't do well when we tried to speed things up a bit. There should still be enough quality to not look this stuttering though.
  6. You're still enjoying watching us? It's more like a religious duty to me; stressful as fuck, unless they put the game away early and win by a canter. Mane's goal was as fucking satisfying as any I could recall, but 85 of the previous 90 minutes was pain.
  7. I've always thought he was just too reactionary. His views on England are basically rubbish to me.
  8. Our captain got the crucial equalizer and he still got no respect. Fabinho, Hendo, TAA.
  9. I wasn't saying he was an equal to Mane. I meant he played like he was part of the team, and may I say, adequately so -- as opposed to the alien figure of last season that despite the crucial goals he scored, was more notable for misplaced passes and failed 1-2s.
  10. He looked sharper than anytime I've seen him last season, including Barcelona. Outside of his goal, he actually looked a credible alternative option for front 3.
  11. It was a 85% positive 15% negative kinda match, but reading this thread you might come away thinking we're prime for relegation.
  12. Aren't Pepe and Fernandes just one season wonders at this point of their career? Is it really necessary to go through this same hysteria every 6 months?
  13. Not a bad half, considering they have more first team players and they've had more pre-season in their legs.
  14. Milner's shirt is drenched, must be from him pouring water on it? Or is it really that warm?
  15. The grass they use for American football is much thicker.
  16. Not to mention it's pretty terrible market this summer. Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Bayern Muenchen, Manchester Utd, et al... need to rebuild, Barcelona, Spurs, et al... need "signature" signings -- all while the pool of players aren't that good and extremely overpriced. Yes, this team needs some cover at fullbacks and forwards, but apparently there are no clear better options in the market than our own youths -- I can live with that.
  17. He needs regular playing time. Having the odd minutes here and there struggling to even get into the rhythm of plays would help neither us or him.
  18. It wasn't a great game, but I appreciated that for once, I felt rather relaxed watching a crucial final, because we were up since minute 2. Spurs didn't present much of a threat. The only time I was seriously concerned was when Alli had a chance to curve into the top far corner, but it landed harmlessly into Alisson's hands. On the other hand, Milner should have finished that best crafted chance of the entire game.
  19. I seriously hope this stupid Clubs World Cup won't become "a thing." Anybody with sense should turn it down. Does anybody really look at the packed schedule and think "what we really need is another long tournament"? This is FIFA looking enviously at all the money in clubs football and thinking of a way to get their grubby hands on some of it. Fuck 'em.
  20. Never mind. I obviously didn't see that other clip. Very moving indeed to see Hendo, VVD, Gomez, and Milner in a big embrace.
  21. That was Joe Gomez (#12). You're right. Hendo looked shattered.
  22. Nope, not even remotely similar. I'll leave you to work out the difference between RBL's unwillingness to sell and we pre-paid the release clause to this above hypothetical situation.
  23. Right, loaning out a €80-million player as "future prospect". Are you mad? The shitstorm backlash would be biblical and well deserved. Not to mention, there is not a snowball chance in hell De Ligt would sign if that's the plan for him.
