  1. Lol yeah. Ban all 12 clubs from next season's Champions league!

I can't wait to see a CL with Leicester, West Ham, Everton, Leeds, Villa and Wolves as the representative of the league, with Serie A represented by Atalanta, Napoli and Lazio and the La Liga represented by Sevilla, Real Sociedad and Betis.

This joke of a competition will very well prove the 12 clubs right, that their names and presence is the very draw of the Champions League.

  2. Unfortunately, the only way to stop our best players leaving is to be owned by a Billionaire. You don't see Real or Barca trying to swipe players from Chelsea or City.

Arsenal have practically all their best players taken by Real, Barca, Chelsea, City (and the Mancs) in recent years. Even the Mancs could not hold on to Ronaldo.

The Mancs are lucky IMO, for having one generation of Giggs, Scholes, Beckham, Butt and the Neville bros that has been around practically since Fergie started winning.

All their world class players have come and gone, like Ronaldo, Van Nistlerooy, Staam, and now perhaps even Rooney.

Our closest to them are Gerrard and Carra. Unfortunately, we're nearing the tail end of even Gerrard's career.

Without a Billionaire, the best we can do is what we are doing now, buying young and selling high. At least we are in the "mid" tear of top clubs, where we buy from other "lower" top clubs such as Ajax, Porto etc and selling to "higher" top clubs like Real, Barca, and unfortunately City and Chelsea (and perhaps PSG). Money talks.

However, these clubs all play fantasy football, and will have to sell cheap those who don't fit. But just because they don't fit doesn't mean they aren't class.

So we buy young, sell high, and try to get world class hand me downs. That is the way to sustainability until we can afford similar wages as those clubs.

  3. Whenever our best player is being sold to a "bigger" club, we should hit them back where it hurts.

When Inter "sold" Ibrahimovic" to Barca, they got in return Eto'o and 43 million.

So if we are forced to sell Suarez, let it be for 40 million PLUS either Higuain or Benzema. Hell, why not Kaka?

If not a star player, maybe 40 mil plus 3 of Real's best young talents that are good enough to play for the first team but are blocked by their galacticos.

Clubs like Real and Barca will always pick on even the top British clubs, however every time they do, they have to let go class players.

When they rebuilt their Galacticos a few years ago, they let go Robben and Sneijder. Both class (but cunts)

Hell, with 40 mil, and Barca buying Neymar, there would be some interesting players on sale in Barca too, like Villa, Alexis Sanchez, Afellay.... I am not convinced by Tello though we are linked to him repeatedly.

  4. Depends who we're bringing in.

If say it's Rafa, then I'd be okay with it. I think.

    Agreed.

I find it inspiring how Rafa can walk into a club, where all the fans absolutely hate him, and yet do a great job. Nerves of steel that one

I'm always suspicious when the media gives our current managers such an easy time (Rodgers, Hodgson). They seem so pleased we've faded into mediocrity

  5. I reckon everyone has gotten their head stuck up their arse by all the media bullshit

    What good defense and midfield?

We've conceeded at least 2 goals in our first 3 matches!!

If anything, forget a goalscorer, if we had clean sheets but could not score, we would be 2 points higher than we are right now

All this tiki taka bullshit works for Barca, because they have Barca level players

It hasn't worked for any other team in the world except Spain, which is pretty much made up of Barca players anyway.

For all the plundits Swansea got last season, they still ended up below us. That is NOT a team we should be trying to emulate.

If we wanted possession football, Rafa's teams are notorious for possession football. However, at least Rafa is flexible enough to have a plan B, namely a big guy up front ala Crouch. Instead, we loaned out Carroll. Brilliant!!

In previous years, post Rafa, we still had our match winners, not only Torres, but also Kuyt, Benayoun and Maxi, who each could contribute 10 goals a season from midfield. Gerrard too could be relied upon for that, but not anymore.

Now, we really are dumbstruck for goalscorers. And yet on top of that, our defense is crap even with talents such as Reina, Skrtel, Agger etc. If its not the players, its the system/manager. Simple as

  7. No. Fed up of English players. All overrated and overpriced. I would rate Walcott the same.

I remember years ago, during Houllier's years, thinking "now we have the best English players in Owen and Gerrard, wouldn't it be nice to get the other great up and coming talents like Kewell and Joe Cole?"

Kewell, Joe Cole, Robbie Keane, Pennant..... we should learn our lesson by now. We dodged the bullet the many times we were linked with Shawn Wright Phillips

I would rather have several cheap foreign alternatives. Not all of them will work out, but by fluke, one or two might

  8. we've got a new manager. if anyone is expecting us to make vast improvements on last season from the off, they are going to be disappointed.

be patient. it make take another 2 or 3 transfer windows to get us squad/team brendan wants. remember how long it took rafa to mount a challenge for the title. it took him 2 years to get us in the top four.

While with Rafa, we added world class players year by year. First year Alonso. Second year Reina. Third year Torres & Mascherano... etc

With BR, by the 4th year we might finally manage buy the whole Swansea squad.

  9. If FSG really wanted money ball football, they would have gotten Rafa back. Simple as

Look at all the money generated from all Rafa's players. Alonso, Mascherano, Torres. Besides Suarez, the only other players worth anything if sold are Reina, Skrtel, Agger and Lucas.

Everyone knows that Gerrard and Carra probably won't be worth much these days. We know that most of Dalglish's buys besides Suarez won't be worth half what we paid for. I am also certain Allen and Borini at most can be sold at the same price we paid for them.

Even if they get Rafa back now, it will take years rebuilding again, now that we've lost the majority of his good players. Even the players that could be relied on to save our skin in tough games, like Kuyt, Maxi and Benayoun are gone.

Sad, but the last time we could have turned things around was when Dalglish first got in. We should have kept Mereiles and kept using Maxi and Kuyt with Suarez and built on that pass and move style. Dalglish's buys last season were a disaster, buy British indeed.

Alonso, Torres, Mascherano, a prime Gerrard, Reina, Skrtel, Agger.... I don't think we will see the likes of their quality again. I am happy we somehow got Suarez, but with additions like Allen and Borini to play the great Swansea way, we won't be seeing him in red for long.

I knew it was a mistake the moment we got a manager that the press agrees with. Its Hodgson all over again, with all the tiki taka hype (as if he created the style). Fuck we played possession football under Rafa too you know, and we too struggled with lots of possession but not the goals, until we got Torres. Its the same story all over again, but with inferior players.

  10. I thought that it was Rafa who helped G&H get extended finance by signing a new five year deal thereby keeping them in office? Agreeing to work for them and pledging your support for five years to them is hardly geting rid of G&H is it?

I thought it was Broughton who got rid of G&H?

Rafa tried to play nice. He signed the contract and we went on to the craziest scoring streak in recent memory. He was also promised funds to buy better players.

However, we came short by 4 points, the owners thought "hey thats good enough", and the whole thing went to bits

As the manager, he's damned if he does (qualify and keep the fuckers in business), and damned if he doesn't (not qualify and lose his job)

Broughton et all wouldn't be able to do jack shit if we qualified for the CL. We would be able to convince the bank, based on previous years doing well in the CL under Rafa, that they would be able to pay the loan.

  11. The problem with people like you is that NOTHING can be blamed on Rafa.

Lets see.... a manager who actually wants to win stuff. How anti-Liverpool is that eh?

Show me what you can blame Rafa for, and show me why you think whatever it is, he didn't do it with intention to create a winning side

I see a manage who tried his best, came close but short, due to incompetence and lack of support from the top.

  12. The scary thing... is that you actually believe what you've just typed, in those posts, there.

    Absolutely astonishing.

I've provided you with facts. You can dispute them with facts.

You claimed that he put us in a bad financial spot. Please state which investments you disagreed with?

If you are going to state bad (cheap) transfers, there is a whole list of world class performers that easily offset the bad ones.

If you want to claim he wasted money on the academy etc. Fine. Prove your point

You have none. You just dislike him, because the media tells you to dislike him. I have seen no coherent argument from you or any of the other Rafa-haters here.

Only headlines with no facts to back up

  13. did he not take over the treble winning team? Yes

Did he fuck it up? Yes

He won the world club championship then tried his old trick of moaning post match and Morrati just fucked him off cos of it.

Totally retarded statement, with no facts.

He won the Italian Super Cup and the World Club championship. He lost the European Super Cup though

Inter were 10 points off the top with 2 games in hand (due to World Club Championship). Inter lost 4, while Milan (eventual champions) lost 3. HARDLY off the pace in Jan.

Its simple. He was promised money to refresh an aging squad which Mourinho miraculously won the treble (the year before everyone was saying the squad was on its last legs). An aging squad is an aging squad.

They've won nothing since, and it can hardly be blamed on Rafa when he wasn't allowed to buy anyone or sell anyone. Its the same squad that failed.

  14. No, actually, he did put us in a real fucking bad financial spot. He absolutely pissed away club resources in his little petty power struggles. I've never seen such selfishness at our club. Not only that, but people actually BLESS him for it!

He climbed right in bed with Hicks and wanted to pull out his milk. Fucking hell.

That said? I'm done talking about Rafa, because I can't fucking stand that 'man'.

Yep. Pissed out money on players the calibre of Torres, Mascherano, Alonso etc. All sold for record prices. We don't need them.

You'll be happy to know, we'll never see players of their like playing for us again.

He pissed off money changing our academy. We should fire those Spanish coaches immediately too. After all, it was Rafa "wanting full control over everything" that brought those Barca coaches over.

Pissed off money developing the latest state of the art computer programs for analyzing football matches too. We should rely only on fans who know everything, not such fancy shit. After all, Shankly never used computers!

Pissing money everywhere. We should go back to the old bootroom days, where we buy the best of the lower leagues and Scotland. That will guarantee success!

Let Chelsea and City buy the useless fancy dans from South America and continental Europe. We don't need them. We'll scout Merseyside for 11 Steven Gerrards

  15. Actually, they could sustain the club. As long as we qualified and went further than the group stages every year, they could hold on indefinitely

Furthermore, if we were still under their hands, we would have lost Mascherano and Torres anyway, which would generate 70-80 million pounds. Only thing is, we wouldn't see reinvestment of those funds

And Rafa would be accused of not getting on with his job quietly while losing such players

Torres, Mascherano were right. We were/are a sinking ship. Even now Skrtel and I would imagine Reina and Suarez will be rethinking their positions. By the Jan transfer window or end of the year, if we aren't top 4 again, its goodbye.

  16. What I don't think some mongs here realise is that Rafa is the reason we got rid of H&G

Yes, there was damn alot of conflict in the final year.

But ultimately, whether it was ultimately brinkmanship or really the team was too effected by the conflict, by getting 7th place, we could get rid of H&G.

Remember, it wasn't that FSG bought over the club. Its that H&G could not service the loan and was forced to sell at a low price to FSG.

If Rafa achieved 4th place minimum, with Champs League money, H&G would have been able to convince the bank or court that they could service the loan, and we would still be with them today.

Of course, if he DID lose purposely, there is no way Rafa can admit this. One, it would be unprofessional of him in the eyes of prospective buyers, and two he ultimately saved the club at his own expense.

The way some of the mongs here argue, it is as if Rafa would live harmoniously with H&G, things would have been perfect. "he's stubborn", "he causes conflict"

    HE SAVED OUR CLUB!

He was the only world class part of our club for a long time now. He waged war on our behalf, and still managed to make us a team feared home and abroad.

Ultimately manager after manager will prove that he was the special one. Not our club, not our players.

Thats what Valencia have found out many years since. They have since bought class players. They have since changed manager after manager. What they have never recovered is their dominant style nor trophies.

  17. Managerial record:

Won only 2 of his first 10 games at Watford before picking up in Jan at Watford

    Fired at Reading

Did well at Swansea in the Championship by making the playoffs

Won his first away game in the Premiership in Jan

Our standards sure have fallen if this is the calibre we are looking for these days. Used to be that we looked for La Liga winners.

He is a slow starter for sure. I wonder how much patience the fans and owners will give him if he takes up to Jan before lifting us hopefully out of the relegation zone

  18. Why would he?

6 months time, this manager is sacked. Another 6 months, another one sacked. We'll see Rafa next year when people finally admit that managers make a big difference. Its not just a bloke putting out 11 players to do their thing

Then will our best manager for the last 20 years return and bring us back to being a club feared throughout Europe.
