Biggest rebuild ever it was touted as. We've spent about 55m net.

All this talk about midfielders, and all these caveats being thrown out to justify the club's lack of spend and decisiveness, can somebody please explain to me why the fuck we haven't bought a single defender?

Robbo, Matip and Gomez are all either on their last legs or shite. Virg is in his final couple of years too. We therefore have Konate and half of Trent (if he decides he can be arsed to be a right back).

There are so many fucking great young defenders out there, a lot of them on release clauses too. "The market is crazy" rhetoric doesn't fly.

And the market isn't going to become any less crazy. The Saudi Clubs are only dipping their toes In the water st the moment. They'll come for the likes or Salah soon enough.

This window started with so much promise. Their were defensive minded midfielders out there that we could have boxed off early but decided to penny pinch.

Now with not long to go, I'd say it's Imperative that we sign at least one centre back. Matip will go next summer anyway, Gomez is a bit shite and Robbo is not the answer for the new tactics.

It's quite hard to get a handle on whether Doucoure would be good for us. As he's playing Hodgball, he doesn't do a lot beyond jogging back and forth in front of the back four occupying spaces. Not really anything like what he'd be doing for us.

Not saying we wouldn't benefit from a bit of that, but it's not how he'll be deployed.

Apparently he's capable of a lot more and showed it when playing in France. Just playing to instructions I guess.

  3. I'm guessing we were originally expecting to go into this season with Fab as our starting DM & were being linked strongly with Lavia since we'll before he left. Was Lavia a back up option incase Fabinho left, or was he going to be his understudy? If so what did that mean for Bajectic? Third choice DM & expected to play further forward most  of the time? Also Henderson could have also been an option in the same position.  Strange that we go from that to Just replacing Fabinho.

We need a shit hot centre back. No young back-up bollocks. Matip will be gone next season, Gomez is Shite 90% of the time, konate has a spell out each season and Virg is getting on.

Oh and Robbo is struggling in this new position. Probably needed Matip to leave before we went big on a centre back though.

I dont think its age. If you look at his total minutes played in his career, they arent very high at all for someone of that age. He still has a long career to go and hasnt actually played that much football. We also have no 30+ players in midfield right now, bar Thiago, so adding someone of that age profile is not terrible.

I think his sprints, running, willingness to throw himself in duels, and then also aerial ability, is basically the footballing reasons why we signed him. Most of the stats around that make him look incredible are cumulative, so it makes him look better than he is, but he undeniably looks like he has qualities that are useful.

For me, it's age plus the fact most haven't heard of him and he's not played for anybody of note. If he was 5 years younger it wouldn't stand out as much. You're probably right on the minutes played thing, he's played a hell of a lot less than Fabinho for instance.

I just feel this was THE summer of our rebuild and signing 30yr old low profile players wasn't something a lot of us expected. Our signings are usually with the present & future in mind.

Will be interesting to see if any more signings come in. I think it's imperative that we sign a centre-back now & a very good one as we surely can't continue with Robertson in the current role he's playing.

  6. The big negative against Endo is his age. If this was a 26/27 Yr old it would make a  lot more sense. Apparently since 20/21 he has declined sharply in the physical numbers(top speed, sprint distance, sprints per 90). So not sure if this is age catching up with him or some sort of change in the tactics of his team which means he doesn't need to run as much or as fast. I guess we will see in the next few weeks.

  7. In isolation doesnt seem to be a bad signing as he's relatively cheap, has good stats, lot of good things being said about him & he's a DM. But on the flipside we've gone from Lavia & Caicedo to a 30yr old Stuttgart player. Quite strange. Also another non homegrown spot gone.

Not sure if this is what Klopp had in mind when he was building his second great Liverpool side.

Desperate for a quality centre back now.

Frederico Redondo is a tall and elegant footballer, two footed and reads the game incredibly well for such a young player. Great range of passing, good in the tackle, has an incredibly high ceiling and he's already very good.

Would be an incredible signing for us. Get him on a long deal and watch his value sky rocket.

A chip off the old block.

Seems a bit of a no-brainer this transfer. Maybe the type of player you would send out on loan, although needs must & it would be interesting to see what he could do this season. He's probably earmarked for Real at some point but we should be taking more educated punts on players like this.

  9. Does anyone else think that we need to follow Chelsea & Man City's way of signing young promising players?

Chelsea have obviously been doing this for years & Man City have followed suit. It seems to pay off for them in a big way financially.

I've read that we a small amount of players at the academy & when we sign young players on their first contracts we offer relatively low wages.

I do get why we do it as the players we have in our academy have less competition & a clearer route to the first team, but is it to change to shake things up & make more out of academy?

Still haven't got shut of Nat Phillips. He'll probably go on another pointless loan to a Championship team and come back, have next summer fucking about then end up at Hull.

Matip or/and Gomez will get injured and he'll have to stay as cover again. He'll end his career with about 80 appearances.

He walks for free in two years.

Maybe so but that's possibly 65-70 goals and who knows what he helps us win. We need a solid plan when it comes to a replacement and I don't think they have one. I doubt we can bring someone in to do the same job as him, it would likely be more of a creator. His agent has said he's staying so maybe next summer will be the time?

  12. Under no circumstances should we be selling Mo this summer. Even if we got £150m+ for him, who do we sign to replace him. He's never injured, scores 30 goals a season & is a megastar and brilliant from a branding perspective. Maybe in a year or two I can see him leaving but until then we should do everything to keep him.

Jari Litmanen was the biggest waste of talent we ever had. A .45 magnum footballer in a .357 football team. I loved watching him play.

Unfortunately, he was lumbered with Heskey as a sidekick and was usually two or three passes ahead of his team mates. The only footballer we had who was in any way capable of understanding  what Litmanen wanted to do, was Smicer.

I would have loved to have seen him play in Klopp’s team.

Remember watching his debut(Crystal Palace)and every little pass & movement he made dripped with class. You're right about his teammates not being on the same level. His play was almost alien because it seemed out of place.

Right player, wrong time I guess..

Sky had a programme last summer following agents and their players around during the transfer window. It was really interesting, you got an insight into the desperation of some of the parties. It was mainly lesser know Dutch and Belgian players looking for deals in mid table clubs in those leagues. They all acted cool when with the clubs up on their own with the agents they were desperate to get it signed, it's life changing money.

Fabians Ruiz, Napoli to PSG was fascinating. I'd say its quite similar to our Lavia saga, essentially both sides think other is the other is in a weaker position than them and it's who blinks first. Meanwhile the player and his agent are in the middle screaming at the moon.

You used the phrase "save a few quid", thats something I think we've all been conditioning into by Sky, Man City, Abramovich etc, the idea of fair value has gone, just pay the man. £2m might be chump change to people that own oil fields but to the rest of the world its huge money, even to a club with our revenues.

Another interesting one was a young defender at Tottenham, desperately wanted out but like Nat Phillips, the home grown thing fucked his transfer, Spurs needed him to make up the numbers. This is an area where we have fucked up this summer, Adrian was a huge mistake, we obviously didn't factor in Henderson going, leaving no wriggle room is why Southampton think they have us over a barrel.

Would be interesting to see more of what goes on behind the scenes with regards to these transfer sagas.

You're right about the "save a few quid" thing, a few million here & there can build up but it's less than ideal signing players just before the season starts &, I wonder how many points that can cost teams.

  15. I'd genuinely like to know how the process of signing new players goes. The transfer window opens  for us on 14th June & shuts on 1st Sep. Now I know it's not simple & there's agents, other interested clubs etc but why do so many clubs leave it until a week or a few days to? Maybe to save a few quid not sure if this works. Also it always seems that clubs work on one signing at a time, not sure if this is the case but it comes across that way. The whole transfer system just seems really bizarre to me.

Well shoe other foot why would southampton take one penny less than 40 m ? If he is a talent , city are triggering that clause next year whether City end up  keeping him or not.

Personally not sold on him but if he is the man Klopp wants we are looking at 40 m plus add ons . Pay it or move on . We also have an unexpected 50m in bank from Fab and Hendo use it .

They probably need the money now & a lot can happen in football over a season. He could  be out of form or get an injury. Best sell him now I guess.

  17. Was great for a couple of seasons but I remember being frustrated with him as it seemed he lost that early confidence & went on runs of not scoring much. Maybe his career is looked upon with more negativity than it should but it definitely went on a downward trajectory.

SO just an entirely new midfield for next season if this all pans out.

Could be an issue, you'd assume that you'd only let one of Henderson or Fabinho go.

Seems like it. I would usually think this is a very bad idea but the midfield was so poor last season that maybe it will be a good thing. Who do we bring in to replace them if both go?

Where's the fsg out crowd now????

I tell you what, that Blippi must be raking it in. He had too much work on his hands so he hired a second Blippi(the one in the tweet) to do all the stuff he couldn't be arsed doing.

Chelsea are the perfect example of wealthy cunts never paying the price for their crimes. Bought big club status by a Russian gangster, accrued shitloads of debt and not only was it cleared for some god knows why reason where allowed to bypass FFP and spend what the fuck they like as a reward.

I still don't understand how there wasn't a bigger fuss kicked up about that. Scandalous.
