  1. I would play Kewell in Athens due to the fact he is better then the other alternatives. Neither Zenden, Gonzalez or Riise offer more then what Kewell offers and at least with Harry he will whip a good cross in and is able to control a ball.

Natural width in Kewell and Pennant will be vital against Milan and with Gerrard in the centre i feel confident going into the final.

I agree. Kewell showed in 30 mins in this match that he's our best choice on the left, providing that he can manage 90 mins. He set up Xabis goal with a great cross and scored the 2nd. He also had a rocket of a shot that hit the crossbar and showed some other nice things as well.

We need to play our best team in Athens, and for me Harry is the best we have on the left at the moment.

  2.

Mascherano is a brilliant player, but Hermes is right. he has strenghtened our squad in our strongest department. Think of any team that has Zenden as 5th choice central midfielder? Thats a very strong central midfield.

But had we got lets say a right or left winger of Masheranos quality...or a striker or a left back, that would have strenghtened out first 11 more.

Still a he is a brilliant player and im delighted he finally is cleared to play for us.

I agree, but we'll have our cake and eat it! Rafa will sort out the left side and striker positions in the summer.

I'm at little concerned that Mascherano didn't get a game at West Ham. Hopefully that doesn't mean that he isn't suited to the english game (like Veron and others)....

  3. Spurs get £8.5 a year and this new deal gets us £7.2m a year, WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT ABOUT?

The fucking Mancs get over £14m per season and Chelsea get £10m.

This is a typical example of our failure in the marketing area.

We should be able to get a better deal than Chelsea and in no way settle for a deal worse than Spurs have!! :(

And why a 3-year deal?? That means we're stuck with this shitty terms until the summer 2010 which will make it unlikely to get a lucrative shit & stadium deal like Arsenal did.

Gillette and Hicks need to get someone in that can handle these matters way better in the future.

  4. The thing is, if all your midfielders are as good as you lot say they are, you'd be world beaters by now, surely? Look at United in the 90s, Giggs, Keane, Scholes, Becks. They didn't need world class finishers, just decent strikers, and we still scored for fun back then. So why, given your class midfield (which I agree on paper is class) haven't the likes of Crouch and Cisse and Fowler and Morientes made any leeway. I mean, those players aren't significantly worse than Cole, Yorke, Ole and Sheringham. (Although I always thought Andy Cole was very underrated, even by fellow Reds.)

The "problem" is that our three best midfielders (Gerrard, Alonso and Sissoko) are all centre midfielders (although Gerrard is also our best right back and right midfielder!). But with the additions of Aurelio, Gonzalez and Pennant we have more quality on the flanks.

And with Bellamy, a fit and hungry Fowler and maybe Kuyt our attack will be far better than last season.

  5. I really liked what I saw from Paletta. Looks like an no-nonsense Argie defender. Will be perfect for the Premiership.

I thougt Pennant and Bellamy did well too. Their pace and skill will be a great asset.

But Reina needs to work on his finishing!! ;)

  6. cant wait to see Chelsea's wage bill next year, it will surely balloon with all these 140k/week players they're signing, they will have 2 when Sheva signs for them and then Lampard will want more money and probably Terry and others who think they should be paid the most

they will probably double their wage bill I would think

Doesn't matter I'm afraid. It's still small change for the russian...

  7. 1. Why didn't you take a penalty neither in the FA Cup final this year nor in the CL final last year given your great one in the LC final in 2001?

    2. Who of the young defenders in the reserves do you think is closest to make the first team?

    3. Can you rank the 5 fastest players in this years squad?

    4. Who do you rate as the best central defender in the PL?

    5. Do you sometimes miss playing centre midfield?

  8. I just can't believe Wenger rested Henry for this game. He's the best player in the PL and Arsenal are a much poorer side without him in the lineup.

Actually this may lead to Henry leaving them in the summer if Spurs get 4th and they don't win the CL which means no CL next year for the gunners.

Crazy decision - Wenger may come to regret it - big time!!

  9. Me and the missus are in Oslo this weekend. We're meeting up with 05Milan and Kop, and if anyone else fancies meeting up with us we'll be in Andy's bar at 8.30ish on saturday night.

I've been informed that beer is expensive, so if you feel obliged to buy us a drink then don't let me stop you ;-)

I will be in there signing copies of the latest TLW at a table in the corner *

    * I won't really, obviously.

    Welcome to Oslo Dave!

I'd love to join you guys, but a friend of mine is having his big 30th birthday party Saturday so I'd better show up for that.

Andy's pub is totally Liverpool-comitted these days so You'll be happy there.

  10. He is still under contract though. Reina was brought in and has played very well, we have kept loads of clean sheets so Rafa isn't just going to replace him. Rafa obviously wanted Dudek to play in the FA Cup match, going off that and Dudek refused. Dudek was amazing in Istanbul, but his general form last season was not up to standard.

I am not sure how long he has left to run on his contract. If it is 6 months then 3 million is way too much, if it is 18 months then 3 million doesn't seem too unreasonable, maybe a touch high, but then an asking price is always a bit more than you would accept.

I think he has 18 months left. We shold try and sell him now and get the best fee possible. 2 million would be ok.

Thanks for Istanbul, and good luck to you Jerzy!

  11. Help me out here. The soft toys in this picture (not flat eric or whatever he was called). Are they from Flåklypa Grand Prix?

From top to bottom: Flat Eric, Solan (left), Ludvig (right) and Big Ears!

I think they had a blast at the Bolton game....

  12. I think we have to go with Gerrard on the right. There aren't many more options.

    -----------Reina

    Finnan Carra Hyypia Warnock

    Gerrard Sissoko Alonso Zenden

    -------Cisse Crouch

If we suffer with injuries then there's nothing down for us.

Agree that Gerrard on the right will be the best solution, but I don't think it will happen. I think Pongolle must given a chance. At least he is able to get past a man. And we can always hope that Kewell eventually might rediscover his potential on the left. But if Carra should suffer a long time injury........ :no

  13. I find it very hard to take that they paid us 8m for him when he was our best striker and a certain starter, yet we are prepared to pay 10m or maybe even more when he is their 4th or 5th choice and they obviously want rid. I know contract issues etc. comes into it, but still can't help feeling Real are really taking the piss here.

Well, that's our lesson (again!) for letting a player run down his contract. Should have forced the issue when Owen had 2 years remaining in the summer of 2003. Now we just have to pay market value if we want him back, as Owen has several years remaining of his Real contract.
