  4. What next Rashid? Rafa out campaign
  5. Seven million in todays market for a striker is good business, especially if the striker has premiership experience, look at Diouf, Macarone (Boro lad in case spelling is that bad) that Fulham lad they want shut off now, Jeffers, iam sure theres alot more players who cost alot more the Crouch and have failed miserbly to live up to their price tag.....give him a chance if Rafa rates him and sees that he can bring something different and change a 1-0 defeat away from home into a 1-1 or three points then thats good enough for me, lets concentrate on his strenghs and not his weakness and iam confident he'll be money well spent
  6. Can we afford to let Baros enter his final year though? if were strapped for cash maybe Rafa has to get rid to fund elsewere.
  7. Rafa doesint see Baros in his team plan, but sees Crouch in his first team plans Who the fuck could judge against a manager whos won two Spainish titles, a UEFA cup and Champions league

  14. News Skipper to parade trophy at Wrexham Jul 7 2005 By Mark Currie, Daily Post LIVERPOOL captain Steven Gerrard will parade the European Cup at the Racecourse on Saturday following his amazing U-turn. While Liverpoool show off their fifth European Cup, the Dragons will also have their own silverware - the LDV Vans Trophy - on display. Racecourse acting chief executive Cliff Finch last night said: "Gerrard's decision to stay at Liverpool is a huge boost for them and we are delighted that our fans will have the chance to see him in action on Saturday. "It promises to be a big day for all concerned but we can't stress enough that it's an all-ticket game and there will be no cash sales on the day." He added: "Fans must purchase their tickets by close of business on Friday evening."
  15. sad day, really piss me off seeing him holding the European Cup now to be honest
  16. Gerrard is faced with agonising choice again Jul 5 2005 By Chris Bascombe, Liverpool Echo "THE BALL is in Liverpool's court," was Steven Gerrard's not-so-coded message to Liverpool when his frustration mounted at the absence of a contract offer. Yesterday, the Reds belatedly returned the serve with the ferocity of a Roger Federer backhand. Gerrard now knows rumours of Liverpool's indifference towards him have been greatly fabricated. By 6.30pm last night, Gerrard left Melwood with offers from the European and Premiership champions reviving the migraine he suffered a year ago. Dazed, confused and unsure who to believe or what to do, he spent the night contemplating a familiar dilemma. It remains to be seen if Liverpool's desperate offers to fend off Jose Mourinho were tabled too late, but yesterday they couldn't have done much more to convince Gerrard he is loved and wanted. Rafa Benitez's pleas of innocence to the charge of transfer engineering were supported by an impassioned public speech naming Gerrard as his managerial successor. The Liverpool boss left Melwood, having introduced Bolo Zenden, to attend a hastily arranged board meeting at Anfield where it was agreed to meet the terms requested by the Gerrard camp last Wednesday. Gerrard returned to Liverpool's training ground at 4.30pm to be informed of the offer. By now, provoked by the new sense of urgency at Anfield, Chelsea had made their move. The £32m bid, sent by fax, was rejected. Their emergence from the shadows was the final piece of the jigsaw for Benitez, who'd made it clear from the outset there was more to the breakdown of negotiations than meets the eye. Liverpool see Chelsea's bid as a cynically timed moved which should, but may not prove to be, a spectacular own goal. The Londoners' offer has left them open to allegations their murky hands have been pulling the strings all along. The speed with which they've revealed their intentions is simply too convenient to be mere opportunism. Some journalists were briefed as early as Sunday night a Chelsea bid was on the way. This presents yesterday's revelations about the breakdown of contract talks and presentation of Liverpool as the big, bad wolf in a new light. There are those who say Gerrard's been an unwitting pawn in a plot to get him to Stamford Bridge from the outset, driving a wedge between player and club which, on the surface, shouldn't exist. No-one should doubt the integrity of the midfielder's belief Liverpool were trying to force him out, even if this has now been show to be a false perception. No doubt advised and fuelled by the observations of others, Gerrard was adamant the delays in talks were deliberate and thought the evidence was plentiful to support his case. Seemingly oblivious to the demons in Gerrard ' s mind, Liverpool didn't help themselves by failing to grasp the nettle after Istanbul. However, Gerrard now knows Liverpool are, at worst, guilty merely of underestimating how quickly he wanted his future sorted out. Yes, the speed of events in the last 24 hours is in sharp contrast to the previous six weeks. It shows what can be done when a sense of urgency is demanded. But the end product is what matters most and Liverpool have now delivered on their promise. If the six- week gap is conveniently forgotten, Liverpool can argue they ' ve actually finalised proposals within the space of five days. That may be a kind of record for contract negotiations with a superstar player in the modern era. The choice for Gerrard is straightforward. Liverpool or Chelsea. There are those who argue it may be better for the increasingly tumultuous marriage between captain and club to end. If he stays, every Liverpool defeat to poor opposition will lead to the same damaging speculation. Gerrard is also concerned if he signs his deal, Benitez will have no money left to assemble a squad which can compete for the title. But this is Chelsea we're talking about. Gerrard doesn't have to retrace his memory banks too far to realise how a transfer to Stamford Bridge will be received by those who adore him so much. Benitez was accused of cynical methods to unsettle Gerrard. Now he's been found innocent and it's clear others have been responsible for creating the crisis, is it not justified to cast a suspicious glance in the direction of SFX and Chelsea? If so, surely Gerrard's reasons to doubt Liverpool's conduct 24 hours ago are equally valid when applied to the other organisations representing or seeking to employ the Anfield skipper. The thought of Gerrard returning next season in a blue shirt is too hideous to contemplate. Defending a move on the basis Chelsea can meet his ambitions and Liverpool can't will not wash. Gerrard is a European champion and has only one medal left to win at Anfield - the Premiership. The preamble, the posturing and the politics are over. If the skipper wants to remain a Liverpool player, there's only one decision left. Sign the contract. Sadly, that doesn't appear to be as easy for Gerrard today as it would have been six days ago.

  20. If he wants to go, cant see why anyone would offer big bucks
  21. RAFA: I WANT STEVIE TO STAY FOR LIFE Paul Eaton 04 July 2005 Rafael Benitez today insisted he wants Steven Gerrard to remain a Liverpool player for the rest of his career. Speaking at a news conference at Melwood, the Reds manager quashed speculation that he wants his captain to leave the club by insisting Gerrard has a major role to play in his Anfield future. He said: "I can assure our fans that we want Steven Gerrard to stay with us for the rest of his career. "I renew my deal with Liverpool in four or five years and when I do I would like Stevie to be my next coach, assistant manager and maybe even the next manager after me. He can even have the chief scout position if he wants it. "I want him to stay with the club. We are trying to build a better team and a better squad and I want Stevie to be a major part of that. "Last season I tried to get Stevie to sign a new deal three times. On each occasion he said wait, so we waited. "This year we want to win more trophies and that is why we are improving our squad with new signings."
  22. Still think this will be sorted and he'll stay....but needs to be done now cause its a load of bollix
