    How does your garden grow?

Grass is a pain in the neck (I was going to type 'pain in the arse', but didn't want to highlight the obvious rhyme - which i just did anyway). Mine's fucked through a combination of female dog and 4 year old daughter. Weeds and dead patches all over it. I bought some of that grass seed that's mixed in with some growing agent/soil affair. It was on offer for £5 in The Asda. Current economy of that purchase is £1 per blade of grass. The fucks. So I'm taking action, and have trawled YouTube and learnt everything I need to attempt a total renovation. Scarifying, aerating, fertilising and over-seeding. I'm getting a quote to have someone else do it but I think I'm going to try it myself. Travis Perkins can fuck off as well. £78 per day to hire a scarifying machine? I'll do some before and afters because, even if you don't care, I'd like my efforts to be globally accessible whether good or bad.

The Ultimate Beer Thread (No Carling allowed)

It was around €6, depending on what you had. Not too shabby.

The Ultimate Beer Thread (No Carling allowed)

Just got back from Amsterdam and went to a place called the Beer Temple. 35 craft beers on tap including Brooklyn, and a fair few from Anchor. Probably the best I had was their own brew. It was delightful. knocked up a €1000 bill between 20 of us in about 6 hours. It was a good afternoon. Oh and there was one called Shipwreck which was 13.8%. It was like drinking watered-down whiskey. I didn't like it. First beer: Ruddles! Got battered on my 12th birthday thanks to my brother sneaking me beers in a Beefeater restaurant.

    Recommend a laptop

They're all shit, but Asus are probably best value for money. What's up with the MacBook? Might you be better off buying a solid state hard drive and installing it? Easier than you'd think, and would add a few years of use.

    Good albums

Try Just Jack - All Night Cinema. I've never been a fan of his really, but I think it's a very good album. Also: Tallest Man on Earth Two Door Cinema Club

Using an old router as wifi extender

It's certainly doable. This link should help. If the router hasn't got a repeater functionality built-in then you can install new firmware, if the router is supported by them what makes it try DD-WRT because it's good firmware with loads of different functions. That being said, wifi repeaters aren't expensive and doing this is a good half an hour job and that's if it works, and you at leat sort of know what you're doing! http://lifehacker.com/how-to-extend-your-wi-fi-network-with-an-old-router-915783308

The XBMC thread - What it is, how it works etc...

If it ain't broke... My old install of XBMC that I used for years was working fine until very recently, in the scheme of things.I might try this upgrade method though, just because I've only recently got the Fire TV Stick and I still want to play around with it.

little things that annoy the shit out of you

Had a good one on Facebook recently where a 'friend' offered me £200 for something I was asking £250 for, and then wondered if I wouldn't mind delivering it to him... which is at least an hour away.

That vid explains how to do it. Although I haven't actually done it yet!

Windows 7 problems - help needed!

Yeah you might have to take it in. It's a common problem by the looks of it. Something to do with a 'missing' file in the software update (it IS actually there, but Windows isn't looking in the right place for it). Couple of things to try then. IF you can get into CMD (DOS) via the recover disc. You should find it in 'Advanced Options' and try the registry scan Type: sfc /scannow That scans and repairs registry problems. Then try to boot in safe mode. If not, try this (in MS DOS again): At the X:sources> prompt, type C: (press enter) next type:- (at the c:\> prompt) cd C:\windows (press enter) next type:-(at the c:\windows> prompt) ren SoftwareDistribution SWDTemp (press enter) Type:- exit (press enter) Restart computer try windows updates. Good luck. And don't be afraid of linux puppy. It's very easy.

Windows 7 problems - help needed!

I assume you've tried starting in safe mode seeing as you tried a system restore. They're weird. I don't think I've ever had one work as expected. Are you getting any error message? The updates are a fucking nightmare, and without having it in front of me it's hard to help. For files, you could download linux puppy and burn that to disc or onto a USB. It's an operating system that runs from the RAM and you can usually get all your files back from the hard disc that way. http://puppylinux.org/main/Overview%20and%20Getting%20Started.htm

    Lap Top Repair

See above. It's dead easy and you'll be very pleased with yourself for doing some computery witchcraft. Just to add, it's well worth considering an SSD for your replacement. You get less storage for your money, but the speed and reliability make it well worth it. Crucial and eBuyer often have great deals.

    I Need a New ISP

Zen Internet are brilliant and good value. My experience with BT is that the service is reliable, the routers are awful, and the customer service is laughable.

    The world of a woman.

You know, one of the highlights of my week is not reading this thread, and then getting a week's worth in one hit. It's truly brilliant! Couple of TV related ones that are recent, because I literally can't keep up with her WOAW antics: We were talking about everyone on the planet going to watch Star Wars and agreeing that we're not fussed and will wait until a decent stream becomes available. Then she mentioned that she thinks she's seen the originals, but if she had it was so long ago that she can't remember it, so we decided we'd watch it. The famous scrolling text appears and within literally 10 seconds I'm asked to pause it for the 1st question which was "So which ones are the rebels?". I used my stock response to the film/TV stupidity, saying that these things are usually revealed during the show. Like many have reported on here, she does this with almost every movie. Then, just the other day her brother was over and we were talking about Derren Brown and his new show. I said I hadn't seen it but have got it recorded. The conversation went on and she seemed very keen to watch it, even answering a direct question of: "Do you like Derren Brown stuff then?" with a resounding "Yes!". So later that evening I suggest we watch it. Only silly me, I didn't realise that she doesn't like Derren Brown and isn't up for watching it at all. I was trying to work out if she thought that she might offend her brother by not liking a particular TV personality, but I've concluded that it was just a case of talking for talking's sake earlier in the day.

    Peep Show

This series of Peep Show was great. It started slowly, but it had all of the elements of the old ones in there at some stage and I laughed a lot. ....and that below average line, fucking genius, especially followed up by that look from Mark. Definitely wasn't disappointed.

Don't even joke... we once looked at 49 properties in one summer before putting an offer in on the first one. Which had just sold.

    The world of a woman.

Spent the last 2 years renovating a house (must get back on the house fixxy-uppy thread actually). The main work was completed before Xmas, with just the flouncy stuff left to do. We're almost exactly a year on now and fuck all has moved forward except from where I take it upon myself to do something like hang a picture up. My wife is infuriating at the best of times. She REALLY struggles to make decisions for fear that she'll get it 'wrong'. Anyway this week I've been on at her to make a fucking decision about the new sofa that we desperately need. I must've looked at every single sofa retailer in the UK, and some abroad too. Probably sent about 50 links to sofas online. She's finally made her decision, which is that we'll go and look at one in a showroom next week. Turns out that it's the first one I ever sent her, and that was roughly a year ago.

little things that annoy the shit out of you

WH Smith. They charge for a plastic bag but give you reams of fucking promo leaflets and coupons. Plus 2 receipts that amount to 3 giant redwoods being pulped. With a little '10% off your next purchase of the thing we can't sell' at the bottom. I don't even shop there, but my wife buys birthday cards there sometimes and I leave the place wanting to throw a petrol bomb back in.
