As a Basque I can‘t see him favouring Madrid over us. I think you have gone too far in your assessment of him Dave I don‘t think the story has finished.

He's already favoured them over us once, albeit the circumstances were not quite straightforward. It seems pretty obvious that he's been given the nod and the wink from them that he can take over from Ancelotti. If that doesn't happen, I'll gladly apologise and I'll give him credit for his loyalty to Leverkusen and for his professionalism in wanting to finish the job he started. I just don't think that's why he stayed there.

The timing is unlikely to be this good again where the vacancy is there and he's in a position where he's available (relatively speaking, I know he's under contract). I'd never give him the opportunity to say no again, this is a massive snub in my eyes and I think a lot of our fans are underselling us. I've seen people saying they can see why he'd choose Bayern over us, and loads see Real Madrid as a "can't say no" job.

Fuck that. The Premier League is the biggest, most popular, most glamorous league in the world and we're the most iconic club in it. A club in fantastic shape with everything there for a manager to be successful and to be idolised like nowhere else. A club he professes to love and has said felt like "home". Talk is cheap, Xabi. He should have been walking over broken glass to come here, but he isn't, so for me the story is finished, or at least it should be.

If it were up to me, I wouldn't even let him come back to play in legends games now. He can watch on telly with his mate Torres.

I wonder why Nagelsmann isn’t mentioned as one of the favourites for the job. He’s managed RB Leipzig, Bayern München and now Germany, and he’s only 36! And he’s available in the summer. Also, he did win the Bundesliga with BM, but I guess that should be expected.

Klopp can't stand him, and Klopp's a pretty damn good judge of character. That's probably why he's not getting much traction.

  3. That's kind of what I was getting at when I said as long as Klopp gets the send off he deserves, with a title and a parade, then I'll just take whatever comes next in my stride. If it goes to shit, so be it, but as long as Klopp gets his happy ending that's fine.

The thought of him missing out again and then it going to shit for us is pretty sickening though.

Maybe your view will soften down the road.

My German osteopath absolutely rants and raves about German football during sessions and his view was that always that he would stay which makes me a bit more sanguine. I didn't believe it but everything he said makes sense in retrospect. What he said was that Alonso wouldn't leave in the middle of a project; it had nothing to do with lack of ambition. I was like "yeah but its Liverpool" but it turns out he was right I suppose.

I know its disappointing, I'm certainly disappointed but he isn't doing anything majorly wrong by staying and maybe we could revisit things down the line.

My view will soften if he doesn't end up at Real Madrid in a year's time.

  5. I've been pondering on this for weeks and I don't know. I'd like City to lose because they're the bigger threat, but if Arsenal win there their confidence will be so high they might be difficult to stop. So I suppose a draw is best, but them both getting a point isn't ideal either.

I feel like we're relying on Spurs to do something against one or both of them, and I hate relying on Spurs as it's only marginally less futile than relying on Villa.

Good on Xabi. He’s worked hard to get a fairly average club a great team, and he’d be mad not to see if he could take it further. I’ve not a clue who we should appoint.

If I wasn't so certain he's going to Madrid next year I'd agree. If this time next year he's turning down Madrid to stay at Leverkusen then yeah, good on him. He won't though.

Hasn't got the balls to take the job now when we need him, he should never be offered the chance again.

Lothar Matthaeus saying Liverpool is not the right option for Alonso and he has better options, he would welcome him to Bayern. He says "why move to Liverpool"

I cant stand Bayern and their shitty league.

Lothar Mattheus was always a proper arrogant, unlikeable turd. I see nothing has changed.

But this isn't the question. Who had the best Liverpool career? It's Keita hands down. Which sums up Thiago's lack of any real impact on the team and sums up what a lousy time he's had here. Well not him,but the fans really.

Keita played in a team that won more. He didn't contribute much to that though, so I still say Thiago.

  9. Thiago for me, because when he played I enjoyed watching him. I enjoyed Keita maybe a handful of times, and the rest of it he was either shite or just not what I thought we were getting. We never saw the Leipzig Keita. Not even once. Not even his best game for us lived up to what I thought we were getting.

No he did not, it just fits someones story better.

He downed tools. His attitude was a fucking disgrace and I was calling him out for it long before it transpired that he wanted out.

I'm sure everyone remembers Zidane's volley.

Me and @Chris were in the stadium for that. Wasn't the most memorable part of that night. That would be when the giant footy at the side of the pitch opened up to reveal a stage, on which the Proclaimers were stood and then belted out 500 miles. One of those "i was there" moments that was.

Zidane's goal came off his shin by the way. Massively over-rated goal, which is very much on brand.

I think Bayern is more likely.

If it was me (and it probably won't be) then I'd rather follow Tuchel than Klopp.

Anyone who believes in himself should not see it that way at all. Even the likes of Moyes, Allardyce, Lampard or whoever you want to mention will look at this job and think "I could really achieve things there". Doesn't mean they would do, but any manager worth his salt would believe they could. So anyone who looks at our set up and thinks "nah, too big shoes to fill" shouldn't be considered for the job anyway as they've got no balls and probably know they aren't good enough.

A top manager who knows what he's doing should see this as an absolutely perfect destination as everything is in place already. Usually when a big job comes up it's because the club is in a bit of a mess and needs someone to come in and fix it. This isn't that.
