Were you a Klopp doubter but now a can't believe he's going like John B? Can't remember. Pretty sure Paul was. Who cares though. He's up there with Bob and Shanks for transforming the club.

I was never a doubter of Klopp. I wasn't the biggest fan of some of his methods immediately. Couple of things stick out from the time ... him going on MNF to talk about his methods irked me (it wouldn't now, it's common), and the way he was with the crowd sometimes didn't sit well with me. All just part of the natural getting-to-know-you, I suppose.

Plus, I couldn't stand Rodgers from day one. And still can't. So I was delighted from the off.

  2. All of this new manager talk is leaving me just cold and non-plussed. I don't think I'll be excited about anyone.

Even if it's Alonso, it'll be like getting a step dad. I mean, yeah, he's a nice bloke and he'll look after your mum and that. But it's still not your dad, your dad is leaving you, and your family isn't gonna feel like it did.

I dunno, I feel like with everything going on with the oil clubs skewing everything, VAR, the referring, the constant international football breaks, the fucking horrendous bantah and poverty/tragedy chanting... this might be a natural way just to let it all drift out of my heart a bit.

  3. That's some PR job the club has done this weekend on trying to rehabilitate his rep. I just don't know why they'd go to that much effort. I suppose anyone they can get to show up at these "legends" games who was actually good at one point should be clung onto.

No, I mean Alonso's people would have nothing to gain by it, so the story is bullshit. I know exactly why Bayern would be putting it out there, which is why I take no notice of anything coming from Sky Germany.

You said the same kind of stuff about the Spanish reports about Bellingham and Real. The reality of the situation is that all the noises, regardless of where they're coming from are that he isn't coming here.

StevieH is the guy whose constant pestering got Tom Hicks Jr to immortal reply: “Blow me Fuckface. Go to hell. I’m sick of you”

And the rest. Steve's one of the best LFC writers of the fanzine era and, beyond that, city of Liverpool writers around. Look up some of his books on Liverpool street names.

  6. Personally, I don't disagree with you about any of this.

But we're an open forum where the participants speak their minds about what they're most passionate about. I think we all wish we could ignore the officiating, or it at least their discussion being more of a rare occurrence as it is in every other sport on the planet.

Thanks for your feedback and thanks for listening.

Wasn’t he bladdered in a club and she told him to behave himself. He called her a slag and then fell down the stairs. John and alcohol weren’t best friends. The lampposts at the bottom of the valley can testify to that.

edit: sure I read this in his autobiography

He was having an argument with his Mrs after the Celtic friendly post Hillsborough and Marina stepped in. He told her to fuck off and mind her own business. Then the next day he apologised before getting on the coach back home after Kenny had mentioned he’d upset her. That’s the story from his autobiography anyway.

In his book, Aldo describes a tiff with Marina and her saying "you won't be here for much longer anyway" and that coming to pass. I don't think he necessarily think she was behind him leaving, just that she had insight into Aldo not being in the plans with Rushy coming back.

Even though they are shite west ham away worries me too....they'll be up for us and will look to alehouse us off corners and free kicks.

    Tricky away that for us.

Two words to soothe you: David. Moyes.

    Meh.

And if it's not Alonso, and I'm now near enough convinced it won't be, the next fella will have to get off to a really good start. I don't envy him.

I don't think we can convince ourselves of anything one way or another mate. The club are handling this with discretion as always. I think it'll probably be Xabi. Even if you remove the emotion from it all, Alonso stacks up in the metrics Edwards is married to anyway. And he wants, overall, to be successful. He's been at Liverpool long enough to understand the need for the holy trilogy to remain in place.

Mid 80's, - still good point.

Think the original point stood to be honest. The 70s had a better overall platform.

Kenny himself was almost done, Rushy was off. The remaining strikers were good players but not world beaters. Alan Kennedy and Phil Neal were at the end of their careers. Sammy Lee would be moved on soon enough.

Kenny signed Beardsley, Barnes, McMahon, Houghton and Aldridge when he came in.

Edit: Remiss not to mention Souness moving on in the summer of 84 too.

Signed Gomez, Milner and Bobby in the last pre-klopp summer. Ings and Clyne too who were both solid squad additions for little outlay.

Less said of Benteke the better, but that's more of a mentality thing on him than anything, plus Klopp wanted Bobby as his sole striker so a bad start became terminal.

Benteke was all Rodgers, if I recall. I think he made a right fuss about getting him so they ended up signing him and Bobby.

  13. Thought the three of you lads were remarkably calm and measured during that episode.

I Imagine the emotion of the day didn't leave much in the tank to be super fired up on the pod anyway. I was exhausted just watching it on TV.

But there was also the ambivalence of what happened. Should have won, could've lost. Status quo in this part of the battle with City.

Paul legit getting annoyed with Dave and telling him to "shut up" before he could get started on White Knighting for Darwin when Paul wasn't even going to have a pop was funny.

I’m probably in a minority of 1 that would rather see Quansah at CB than Gomez, Joe has been fantastic for us in the myriad of positions he’s played for us this season, but I fear he’s always got a brain fart in him at CB.
Probably doing him a massive disservice there but I’ve said it now.

@Chris did you put your desk outside on your balcony and just have the rain crashing down around you?

Sorry bud! I muted myself when I wasn't talking because when it rains here it FUCKING RAINS. There are drainpipes outside my office window that ironically make an insane racket when the rain hits them.
