Excuse me while I wipe a tear from my eye having listened to the last bit of this episode in which the lads reflected on Klopp's European era. Beautiful sentiments from Chris and the perfect summation from Dave - It's been the most fun he, and many of us, have had watching Liverpool, ever. Shame John B had to ruin it all by banging on about the Nazis ;)

In all seriousness, I was fortunate enough to be at most of the big European games under Klopp, home and away, and it's almost impossible to describe how special they were - Dortmund, City, Roma, Barcelona, Spurs in Madrid and even Kyiv; occasions that will live with me forever and which we should all be grateful for. Fans of practically every other club would kill for just one of those nights; we had loads, and the glorious memories will last long after the increasing pain of this season has passed.

If, like the lads, I had to pick my favourite European goal under Klopp, it would probably be Divock's in Madrid. I was right behind the goal where he smashed the ball past Hugo Lloris and will never forget the feeling of knowing that we had definitely won a sixth European Cup. That I was surrounded by mates and celebrated with each and every one of them only added to the magic. The following morning it was back home via Alicante and I'm pretty sure I didn't stop smiling for the entire journey - and for the rest of that summer.

Thank you Jurgen. It's been one hell of a ride. X

    Beautiful post, mate.

  2.

Klopp is detaching emotionally and it's having a grave effect on what we're seeing on the field.

    I don't necessarily think it's a conscious thing.

We can all do it, you detach emotionally to protect and prepare yourself to cope.

    I think that's what's happening here.

We rely completely on being all-in... 100% focused, 100% engines running.

    It's not there.

You look like a cunt bumping look at me posts 2 minutes after that. Like the kind of cunts that haven't been seen in 4 months will reappear complaining we didn't buy Mbappe in January.

if you weren’t so smug the other night telling people how they should feel it wouldn’t have been on my mind, so it takes one to know one I suppose.

I get Chris's view, really. If it weren't for Klopp leaving we'd probably be looking at this season as being a positive one in terms of a rebuild. Lots of young talent coming through, done well across multiple comps etc. It's only the announcement that turned the expectations to "you have to win things now".

Don't get Chris' Trent comment though, we have been consistently conceding the kind of goals that were routinely blamed on him and he's not even been on the field. Bit harsh to throw shade at him now.

It was harsh to throw shade at him. Silly even. I was I pissed off and lashing out.

That pod needed a Paul or Stu to inject some reality back into it, had to switch it off half way through it was so gloomy. Proper throw the toys out of the pram stuff. That performance had nothing to do with Klopp leaving, what it was a team that was completely flummoxed by a style of play, we simply never got to grips with it. Instead of being composed and figuring it out, we panicked. As shite as we where we could have easily scored 4 goals, Darwin has to score, Mo has to keep himself onside and then we have Harvey's effort and Mo, Darwin and Diogo's other chances. We can score 4 or 5 out there easily.

presume you’ll be walking this back now?

if you watched that and think the malaise is unrelated to Klopp’s departure then you’re kidding yourself.

For better or worse we record within an hour after the game so you get how we’re feeling in that moment. I make no apologies for that. Maybe it was the wrong crew for this pod. I suspect a few may have turned off.

@Paul, by the way, is absolutely despondent too.

Not sure about your version of reality either. Either we were flummoxed and we didn’t get to grips with it or we created loads of good chances that would have won us the game comfortably. Your version is both. I don’t think it was either. I think we were fucking shit.

If we were flummoxed by the 6th placed team in Serie A who’ve barely had a good result in weeks then I wouldn’t say that bodes well, would you?

Suddenly their version of Hodgson is now flavour of the month with people saying we should interview him, because of it too. Fuck all that.

Under normal circumstances I'd have leapt in to belittle him for that belter but I couldn't be arsed. I also had something I had been planning to mock Stu Monty with too concerning something he said on the last pod, but it didn't feel like the right time to do that either. Fucking dickheads killing my piss taking mojo.

  8. Didn't see the game yesterday as one of my best friends was in town (v. early TLW-ers will remember Haje, he helped redesign the forums when we moved from Bravenet and designed one of the first TLW logos) so it was a good excuse to spare myself the misery.

So, I can't comment too much.

However: "It's not the best result I have ever seen but I am fine with it."

The one thing he shouldn't be is "fine with it."

    Maybe that's why we fail.

"shocking for most of the season"

"potential to derail the title run in"

"makes Rashford look like Dirk Kuyt"

It's either absolute nonsense or wildly exaggerated.

All three of us said he shouldn't just come in at the expense of Bradley and that it's a big dilemma for Klopp what to do with him, but none of that makes any of the above true. I mean, we were top or thereabouts when he was playing.

I don't know where he's going to play but I'm pretty sure Trent isn't spending the rest of the season on the bench.

I don't know whether any of you said that, but the poster objecting to him coming back in for ANY of the midfield was rightly pushed back on. Fuck that. Endo's been amazing and Macca is now a contender for our player of the season.

  10. 1 hour ago, dave u said:

That's one way of looking at it. A completely batshit mental way, but a way nonetheless!

If any of that was true Klopp would never pick him at all.

Even that wild take has an element of truth to it. I wouldn't put him in the team instead of Bradley at the moment and the only midfielder he'd replace is Dom on current form. For the overall benefit of the team, give me Endo, Curtis and Macca in ahead of Trent if they're fit.

Chris - you say that you've flown over four times for a title run in and four times it's gone wrong. Any way you could stay in the US this time mate? You can fly over for the next one.

Haha, didn't think about it possibly being me who was the problem all along. *Cancels flight*

Although "the next one" shout means I'll probably never see another.

True, but Rodgers also came out with some belters, like talking about promising to dedicate his life to fighting for the club, and ultimately he wasn’t a success and we didn’t truly take to him because he didn’t win. It’s all about that in the end.

We’ve just been really lucky with Klopp in that he’s given us that strong emotional connection with how he behaves and the principals he holds as well as also being a genius football manager. Christ I’m bummed about him leaving.

Ugh god, fucking Rodgers. The thought of going back to a fucking cringelord like him chills the bones.

In fact, that entire few years makes me want to cringe so hard my spine might snap.

Brendan Rodgers Liverpool we're on our way to glory.... build a team like Shankly did our kids will have a storryyyyyy.

    Fucking VOMIT.

That poetry in motion / we are Liverpool shit that's somehow stuck around is just as bad.

I totally fell out of love with the club during that period, for the only time in my life.

Chris says will we now talk about Alonso.  I crack open a beer and get out the popcorn and ready myself for Dave joining the Johnny-bus.  And then the sensible brothers stop him before he's taken his first stride.  And yet again I'm sat here, cock popcorn in hand, disappointed.

I did want Alonso though.  And now the uncertainty has left me concerned, but I've found it easy to switch that off so I can enjoy this seasons and worry about it in the summer.  I'm 51 and so have had a decent portion of my adult life watching us be shite or mediocre, so I can appreciate the last 8 years and let the chips fall where they may for the coming few.  It's less stressful being mid-table anyway.

Everybody had had a nice time up until that point and if he'd got started the run time would've doubled.

Dave touched on it recently and it got a full airing in this podcast: what defines the Klopp era is the home form. My record in games I've been at under Klopp is P35 W28 D7 L0 F100 A27. That doesn't tell the whole story though. Only once did Liverpool take the lead and fail to win, and that was the 5-5 draw with Arsenal in the League Cup that was won on penalties. Most incredibly though, they've gone behind 13 times in those games. 13! The consensus yesterday was that the Man City-Arsenal game was dogshit viewing, Mr Freedom-For-Catalonia-Slavery-For-Abu-Dhabi and his (footballing) protege stinking the place out with their forensic view of the game. Chris seemed a little awkward about saying it has been a privilege to get to see so many games with Klopp as the manager. I'm quite unabashed about it. It's been such a thrill, and when things go to shit (relatively speaking) in the next few years, I'm determined that I'll view this period as a case of 'tis better to have loved and lost' than marinating in misery.

If it sounded awkward, I sometimes feel a little sheepish that I get to travel from abroad to attend games whereas others put in more hard yards than me in maintaining their membership credits and people who live locally aren't able to go very often.
