  1. I’d love to see Bernardo Silva and Bruno Fernandes fight over a piece of cheese.

  2. I’ll be keeping this one short as I’m struggling with the lurgy and I don’t actually there’s much to say anyway. It wasn’t great but it was enough and that’s all I’m expecting in games like this. I was fine with it, so I was a little surprised to hear Slot going off on the performance afterwards. We’ve played much worse than this and he’s been relaxed about it. So why was he so pissed off after this? I think it’s about standards and that he’s seen them slipping a little since the City game and he senses a defeat coming if we don’t get back at it. I think this was an over-reaction from him but it wasn’t out of emotion, it was about deliberately sending out a message. The way he was talking up Girona was weird too, as I thought they were shite. In fact, if we were so bad and we still beat them, they must be shite. They’re 9th in La Liga and 30th in the CL table, but Slot was talking about them like they were Barcelona. So yeah, I think he’s sending a message to his players as he’s seeing signs of things creeping in that he doesn’t like. I like it, it’s keeping them on their toes and we’re going into a crucial part of the season now. If we avoid slip ups and get to the New Year with this lead intact then we’re in great shape, so I think Slot is just firing out a warning now just to get everyone refocused. I can see why he didn’t like the first half because it was too end to end and Alisson had to do too much. The second though, I don’t think they really did anything and I never felt like we were going to concede. The way we started the game I thought we were going to blow their doors off. The first ten was really good and we almost had the long awaited Joe Gomez goal when he met a corner from Robbo and powered a header goalwards. Unfortunately it was straight at the keeper. It’ll come eventually. Then it got a bit ragged and they started creating chances. Alisson made a handful of saves, only one of which seemed particularly difficult, but then that’s the beauty of Alisson as a lot of things seem easy because he’s always where he should be. They had too many chances, although I thought a couple of them would probably have been offside. He doesn’t know that though, he has to make saves and he did.

  4. Six wins from six, a place in the automatic qualifying places secured, but Arne Slot was far from happy with the performance despite the 1-0 scoreline. TLW Editor Dave Usher is joined by Dan Thomas to chat about this game as well as to look ahead to the weekend visit of Fulham to Anfield and to discuss the news this week that David Coote has been sacked. 7. I really felt for him last night. He looked tearful leaving the pitch. Part of me wanted Slot to leave him on in case a tap in presented itself or a shot deflected in off his shin or something. In the absence of Jota we need Darwin to play. He desperately needs a confidence boost. He’s got a great attitude, but I just don’t think he’s the right level. We’re in great shape overall, and we need to build from a position of strength. That means adding to our attacking options in January. We can’t judge Darwin by last night - Girona had two deep lines of defence with no room to play through. Plus there were few credible performances around him. But judging by his full body of work, Liverpool need better. Dawin’s like Status Quo. Some great early work, and one or two high spots since. But when they come together with elite artists to sing Band Aid, you see their limitations. At the moment Slot is having to put them centre stage. He needs to take that microphone away and turn them down in the mix. They can still stand in the back having a laugh, as they’re nice lads. Just leave the performing bits to the talent.

  9. TNT Sports couldn’t pick us for this one as they were supposed to be covering the derby last week, meaning that we are in that rare Saturday 3:00pm slot and not on TV. The thing is, Saturday at 3:00pm is still the ideal slot for a match. It’s not ridiculously early and doesn’t finish ridiculously late so you still have Saturday night to plan for, and hopefully all of Sunday to enjoy. A bit like with the British government going back forever it seems, the PL’s chase for the foreign gravy train means they have to bow to the whims of foreign TV markets. If Asia wants a PL match on during their peak Saturday night slot, it means a lunchtime game over here. Money takes precedence over quality and any real enjoyment. Plus ça change. After facing one of City’s feeder teams in the Champions League, we now take on Fulham at Anfield. They are one of those sides that can be a real handful on the day, especially if you are not on it yourselves. Not consistent enough to challenge for a top 4 place, but with a fair wind could make one of the other European places. Marco Silva has been there for 3 years now (longer than he spent at either Hull or Everton) so has had time to properly bed in his ideas. He wants his players to let the opposition know they’ve been in a game, win, lose or draw. We saw that last season where we were not allowed to get too comfortable in any of the 4 games we played. Not least in the corresponding league fixture last season, which was a real ding-dong battle needing some late heroics from both Endo and Trent. In the summer, they spent a lot of money to sign defender Andersen from Palace, midfielder Berge from Burnley, and attacking midfielder Smith-Rowe from Arsenal. He was always on the fringes of Arteta’s squad, had seen what regular game time had done for Palmer at Chelsea, and decided he needed to fly the nest. Harry Wilson had to make the same decision with us a few years ago, and he also opted for Fulham. They got a significant chunk of their outlay back on their new signings with the sale of Palhinha to sit on Bayern’s bench. They are a side that are unlikely to play on the front foot against the bigger sides, but rather try to counter quickly and crisply. They should have got something at the Etihad, and in their last 2 fixtures have beaten Brighton and drawn with Arsenal. We’ve seen what they can do if we aren’t at the races so we must ensure that everybody is far more tuned in defensively, more precise in our control and use of the ball, and much more ruthless in the attacking third. None of the sloppiness we saw at Southampton, Newcastle and Girona. Ali returned to action at Girona and should be OK to start again, and maybe Diogo (who also returned to training recently) might be an option off the bench. Maybe the Italian stallion will have overcome his sickness and be ready to be involved once more (you never know!). Macca is suspended for this one (he would have been missing for the derby had it gone ahead), and Conor, Ibou and Kostas are still unavailable. I’d expect Slot will go strong for this one with who he has available, and plan on more of a reshuffle for the League Cup tie next week. How have our previous managers got on in their first home fixture against Fulham? It’s a very good record, though Fulham didn’t play in the top flight until 2001, and have spent a few years in the second tier since then. Souness...N/A Evans...N/A Houllier...12/12/2001...Liverpool 0-0 Fulham Benitez...05/02/2005...Liverpool 3-1 Fulham (Morientes, Hyypia, Baros) Hodgson...N/A Dalglish...26/01/2011...Liverpool 1-0 Fulham (Paintsil og) Rodgers...22/12/2012...Liverpool 4-0 Fulham (Skrtel, Gerrard, Downing, Suarez) Klopp...11/11/2018...Liverpool 2-0 Fulham (Salah, Shaqiri) I don't ask for much. Maximum motivation, control, application, attitude and concentration from minute one. 3 points please. Get it done!

  10. Since 2016 Twenty One thousand migrant workers have died in Saudi Arabia, yet Fifa awarded them the highest ever score on the human rights test. Eleven of the stadiums haven't been started yet they were awarded the highest score! How many more will die by the time this monstrosity starts?

  13. Oh deffo but he's Britain's richest man or some shit. Problem with the super rich, same with Musk, is they think they know it all about everything. Musk tried to send a submarine to a Thai cave system which was barely wide enough to get a human head through. When Ser Jim started moaning about the offices being untidy I knew we were on to a winner. Tidy desk, tidy mind. Next year it'll be the Europa, the year after that I'll be assistant manager - that's when the big bucks start rolling in.

  14. One of the funniest moments in the podcast's history. "I actually remember this guy's name..." Dave then reels off 50 nationalities - all of which are incorrect - then completely murders the pronunciation of the poor guy's name. A greater moment than the save itself.

  34. Left back is pressing given Robbo’s slight decline but given that he’s still a decent standard and Tsimakis is decent we can afford to be a bit more pragmatic there. If Trent fucks off then Frimpong is a no brainer, if Slot wants that type of full back. Could be a no brainer if Slot wants that type of winger as well though. A first team quality body in midfield and a bonafide reliable starting centre forward is where I’d be looking. Get the midfielder done in Jan then do something clever with the full backs and go big in the forward in the summer. Nunez is what he is at this point. I don’t foresee him ‘coming good’ at this stage. He is basically the new Origi. He can do a lot of things good some of the time. I think the other forwards like him because even when he’s missing sitters and laying it off in to defenders feet he’s always a handful. Good to have off the bench but not good enough to be leading the line at Liverpool. Someone like Muisala is the dream signing but he’s the suoerstar in waiting and that’s what his fee and wages will reflect. More likely to see big money go on Wirtz if they spend big on anyone. I still think we’ll go for that Baba Ganoush for a modest-medium fee and worry about the AFCON when they happen.

  36. He's such an irredeemably mean-spirited character. Brilliantly, he's exactly the sort of person you'd hope might get involved with that club if you don't want them to do well. In all seriousness though, it's horrible for the lower-level employees there, and can only have a corrosive effect on morale. I wouldn't be surprised if he freezes pay for them next.

  39. English football is a cesspit of corruption and incompetency and that European Cup / Champions League / Midden League is a dogs breakfast of a tournament with zero credibility. davek Player Valuation: £150m November 27, 2024 Add bookmark #7,144 Of course. But no one is seriously arguing now that an English League title with the governance issues the PL has (holding an axe over certain clubs' heads) and expecting a level playing field with vast sums of cash 2 or so clubs have has not degraded the title; nor can anyone look at the EC/CL/Whatever that kin mess is now be seen as anything like the prestigious competition it was 10-20 years ago. Football needs cleansing from top to bottom. We could do with a new round of football hooliganism to clear the decks, tbh...obviously without the Kopite level of murder that goes with it. Hahaha and we're back to it being a poor league. Same rhetoric as when we were fucking storming it in 2019/20. Davek's misery and anger fuels me. Keep it coming you fucking bitter cunt, I'm almost on the vinegar strokes.
