  1. Thanks to JB for stepping in on this. It's my mum's funeral tomorrow so got lots of last minute running around to do and after doing the pod I was pushed for time and John kindly offered to help. Some random thoughts: Trent's defending in one v situations was outstanding. Again. It's just lazy to trot out the daft "great going forward but poor defensively" shite. There aren't many better defensively and there are none better offensively. Robbo was sensational. Pogba couldn't get off that pitch quick enough after we scored. Last time he got himself sent off so he didn't have to deal with us, this time he just feigned injury. I wish he'd stayed on because in a game like this when you need to work, run and show some pride, Jesse Lingard is a much better player than that absolute fraud. The applause and YNWA for Ronaldo was pretty much the entire stadium. The away end will have HATED that. They behaved the way I expected. Vile. Sadio at centre forward has been a revelation. I read that he's just matched the career goal tally of Giggs despite playing about a thousand less games. Sadio is great and Giggs may well be the most over-rated player in history not named Scholes. Thiago. Fucking hell. Thiago. Unbelievable again. He was so good that at one point Robbo just stopped playing and was applauding like the crowd were. Diaz has had such a massive impact and not just with what he himself has done. Everyone else has had a lift with him coming in. Thanks Spurs, because if you hadn't gone in for him we'd have waited until the summer. Hendo was brilliant. I knew he would be.

  2. Just got back from having my bone scan news. The main and good news is that the cancer has not got into my bone structure. The pain in the arse news is I will have to do Radio Therapy at Addenbrookes for 4 to 7 weeks every bloody day, to clear the prostate and possibly a lymph gland, which I have to have a Pep scan for. This doesn't start for at least two months. About an hour there and back and it only takes under 1/2 hour. Anyway, other than exhaustion I'm gonna live. You're all gonna have to put up with me for a bit longer yet! Anyway, all the very best to those of you and your loved ones who are having to go through all this shit.

  3. Even when the stakes are relatively low in this game, I always have a sick feeling in my stomach. Pre-match cockiness from some as to how many we’d score (some said four, others five) didn’t do anything to quell nerves. Fortunately, these boys don’t hang around and within five minutes – never mind that – from the kick-off, the result was never in doubt. Klopp decided to go what one could easily argue is our first-choice 11. The back four (despite Konaté’s recent brilliance) picks itself, as do the midfield and front three. Henderson has been at the core of everything good about the Club in the last ten years, on and off the park, and on the big days, there’s nobody I would rather have leading us. The front three is probably the trickiest of the lines to pin down as it’s a toss-up between Jota and Diaz for the third spot. Diaz, with his pace and touch at this stage of the season, just shades it though, for me. What a choice to have going into the last 10 or so games! The Ground was rocking, as we knew it would be with ‘‘Them’’ in town and with the stakes so high. One of the most admirable things about this group – and there is so much to admire – is their ability to deliver in high pressure games. We’ve seen it over the last number of years, whether in the League or in Europe (and they have added the domestic Cups to their bow this season). We HAVE to win every game because of what City are doing (illegally, of course: Brighton tickets are available in all parts of the Etihad for the game tonight, but they are self-financing their ‘‘glory’’, of course they are). Playing these just 72 hours after our Wembley wizardry and on the back of a European Cup quarter-final and a visit to the Etihad could have proved tricky. However, it was anything but and the Reds treated us to total football and our 128th, 129th, 130th and 131st goals of the season. Extraordinary. So, how about that first half ? The Reds were absolutely imperious, all ten of them. Alisson, in black, could have nipped into The Albert and had a couple of ales, so anaemic were United. He did, however, play a part in both goals in that opening half. The two goals were the epitome of everything that is good about this team: desire to show for the ball, movement off the ball, technical ability on the ball, picking out the right man, taking your chances, with everything being done at breakneck speed at the end. Just astounding football. The first came at the end of a 13-pass move. Diaz has been a revelation; before, it took a while for Klopp to integrate new signings into the team (Fabinho is a case in point). Now, while we may not be buying the finished product (there’s so much more to come from Jota and Diaz) when they arrive, they slot in seamlessly. It’s all about the system and whether it’s Diaz or Sadio on the left with Andy or Kostas, everything just flows so naturally. If United were on the back foot from the get-go, they were punch drunk after we went one up so quickly. Pogba didn’t fancy it and was no doubt happy to get out of there. Our intent never let up, we were first to every ball and every second ball, and it was only a matter of time before that second goal came, given our hunger and United’s lack thereof. The second came at the end of a (vidiprinter alert) TWENTY-FIVE pass move. Well, 24 passes plus the ball of the century from Sadio. What a goal! Diaz gets the ball on 20 minutes and 4 seconds and Mo scores after 21 minutes and 19 seconds. A remarkable goal, Klopp’s Reds at their finest. It’s great to see Mo back scoring , just as the business-end of the season comes around. He’s been quiet of late but only by his unbelievable standards and even then, he’s been instrumental in some of our best stuff (the ball to Sadio at the Etihad, for example). Even after the goals, the energy levels remained really high. Another remarkable thing Klopp has managed to do of late is to maintain the rhythm of the team while making changes. That showed again tonight, as Konaté and Keita dropped out and Joel and Hendo came in. Rotation is the name of the game and he seems to have got it down to a fine art. He mentioned that the players are all contributing greatly in training and I am sure we will see another couple of changes for Sunday. Of course, it’s easier to stay fresh when you keep the ball and this is something we’ve been doing better and better of late, in no small part thanks to Thiago. What a player and what a performance. He alone can dictate the pace of our play and those passes between the lines have made us even more dangerous than before; he can take out four or five opposition players with one pass. The movement of the front three – Diaz and Mané in particular never stopped all evening – allied to Thiago’s vision and accuracy were, as the Kop sang, ‘poetry in motion’. United changed things around tactically at half-time with Sancho coming on for Jones. This led to them playing higher up the pitch and there was a period at the start of the start of the second half where we had to adapt to that. Klopp referenced that in his post-game press conference and once we got to grips with the tactical change, we were back to the incisive, flowing football of the first half. Klopp also mentioned how good our counter-press was – a sure sign that we are purring! Indeed, that press was at the origin of Sadio’s goal on 68 minutes with Andy pushing up, winning the ball back and creating the opportunity. The movement from the front three was great, Diaz’s ball was perfect and the finish was fantastic. 3-0 up, foot off the pedal? Not at all. Watch back and you’ll see a rabid Hendo a minute later chasing down Rashford and getting in Fernandez’s ear. My captain. Jota came on then for Diaz, who went off to a deserved rousing reception. A goal. An assist. A nuisance. From then on it was a case of game management, with Mo’s second after a magnificent through ball from Jota the icing on the cake in front of a raucous Anfield. Thiago made way for Keita and got the standing ovation his man-of-the-match performance deserved. It would be remiss of me not to point out the usual ‘repertoire’ from the away end vermin. It’s not a minority, just as it’s not a minority at Old Trafford when they sing. Anyway, we’ll take the six points and plus nine goal difference, ta. Some of them got off before the end, just as they did at Old Trafford. ‘You love to see those empty red seats’, don’t you? Anyone check on Fergie at the end? At the start of the season we could have hoped to play a maximum of 63 games. As things stand, we’re guaranteed to play 62. In the 53 we’ve played up to now, we’ve won 39 and have a goal difference of plus 90. Extraordinary numbers from an extraordinary team. I feel fine. Team: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson; Fabinho (Milner), Henderson, Thiago (Keita); Salah, Mané, (Diaz) Jota:

  4. 4-0 against the manc rats. Fucking lovely. Vermin dipped into their usual songbook tonight even after we applauded for Ronaldo - they just couldn't leave it alone could they... Horrible, horrible shithouse rats. I hope their current slide continues on indefinitely and gets steeper and fucking steeper. Never forget, reds, no matter how shite they become and how routine beating them is (like tonight) they are horrible rat bastards who gloried and revelled in rubbing everybodys noses in it and ours especially for 20 years when they were on top....and they continue to disrespect our tragedy - never give them a moments sympathy or take it for granted......drink it in and always want to beat them even more - if it is 4 want 5, if it is 5 want 6.....there is no such thing as too much pain to inflict on them....never enough humiliation.... Horrible bastards. As for us - as i said earlier - these are the days, folks - drink it in, drink it in.

  6. Keane talks about the mancs the way I talk about this generation of lads. "They're queueing up to get in the clubs, they've got no formal trousers on, no trousers to be seen, not a shirt in sight either, not even a Ben Sherman. How much is a Ben Sherman for pity's sake? Where's the pride? Where's the discipline? "They cry a lot these young lads. About the environment and stuff. Okay we talked about the ozone layer in our quieter moments, but it sorted itself out eventually, you certainly didn't cry about it. "They're friends with girls a lot of these lads too, I'm not sure I agree with that. There needs to be a healthy distance between young lads and girls unless they're courting, to maintain the mystery." "They don't drink much these lads today neither. When we were going out, we'd drink anything. Carling, blue VK in the club there if you couldn't afford a WKD, just to mix things up. But either way the commitment was there. With these lads it's green tea and coffee. I tell you now, it's no wonder they're all depressed."

  8. And, they’ll be invited back with open arms next season. Pathetic Uncle Toms. You only have to look at the amount of them who were more outraged by us singing YNWA in the 7th minute last night than they were at the Mancs for singing songs about dead fellow scousers. They’re genuinely pathetic.

  9. My next door neighbour is a Quantity Surveyor and whilst a friendly chap is also the most boring person in the world. For that reason I tend to steer clear but when he came round today, being his usual tedious, boring but friendly self, he told me he is a united fan. After 1/2 an hour of mind numbing drivel on the subject he told me that he wished Ole had stayed. I took the noose off my neck, stepped down from the chair and pissed myself laughing.

  10. What makes me laugh about Gary Neville is the way he always views everything through the prism of being a Man Utd fan when he's on sky. He does praise us but always has to crowbar in his bias. He was asked about Luis Diaz and then just goes off on one "it's utterly depressing isn't it, he's going to be a superstar and he was a bargain too". Why does he need to mention how depressing it is?. Just be objective and sum up his qualities as a player rather than acting like one of those nonces who watch the game on YouTube shouting at the telly in their ma's box room.

  11. On Ratboy - I find he speaks well (or at least he used to) the majority of the time but he’s beginning to sound more and more like a petulant child. Some of his views are ridiculous and he is clearly unwilling to accept any other viewpoint - never a good trait to have in discussions. His point about the dividends is ludicrous. Dividends being paid attract investment and create demand. It’s a sign of company strength and future success, what does he really expect when someone buys the business? They were publicly traded and available......You go down that route, you know what is going to happen. Maybe he can point the finger at others? Gill’s desire for investment or Fergie falling out with McManus and his mate leading to them selling out maybe. Funny how certain people get no blame whatsoever though but like a myopic fan he just throws shite at the owners. It’s what happens when you chase money as a football club. Fuck him and them. I hope they suffer for many, many years..

  13. It's pure poetry that the Glazers are only there in the first place because Fergusson fell out with the previous owners over a race horse. Ferguson who also anointed Moyes has his replacement and started the decline on the pitch too. This was always the danger with Ferguson and the bit that's always overlooked. Undoubtedly a great manager, but an individualist at heart. What the likes of Shanks and Paisley did for a community. Ferguson always did for himself. It wasn't their treble, it was his. Money always seemed important to him too.

  14. For the second time this season the Reds completely wiped the floor with Manchester United as Mo Salah filled his boots. 9-0 to Klopp's men over both games and five goals for Salah. These are special times we're living in, not least because we get to watch Thiago every week. Chris Smith, Paul Natton and TLW Editor Dave Usher reflect on another sensational Liverpool performance and another special Anfield night under the lights. Thiago's brilliance, the front three clicking, Trent pocketing Rashford and Sancho, turbo charged Robbo, all of this is covered while the lads also set time aside to enjoy just how utterly meek and hopeless the once mighty Manchester United now are. 15. We have an out of control cost of living crisis, high taxes and National Insurance, housing problems, extortionate prices for energy and fuel, low growth, high inflation, an NHS that is being sold off bit by bit in front of our eyes, you can't get an appointment to see a Doctor or a Dentist, there is no visible police force on our estates, shops and pubs closing down everywhere, Nurses and Teachers having to use foodbanks, over 170,000 confirmed deaths due to Covid, this list is by no means exhausted. We have a compulsive liar who thinks he is above the law as PM, a Chancellor who thinks it's ok for certain people to dodge taxes, a drunken Culture Secretary, an evil Home Secretary, a fucking idiot Foreign Secretary, again this list is not exhausted, with virtually every one of them in it for their own personal gain. This Prime Minister is responsible for this, but don't worry because he's 'getting on with the job'. I really hope it doesn't happen but I worry about civil unrest or even riots if things don't change. Nice one Johnson you absolute cunt.

  19. We were great last night. We’ve seen some abject Liverpool sides go up against some very good Man Utd sides. Apart from 2 games at Old Trafford where we had red cards early on (think we lost a 4-0 and 3-0) we’ve never been bum holed by them like we’ve done to them this season. Ever. Even the Rodgers 0-3 game was more comprehensive than any beating they’ve ever given us. Even at our worst we’d always raise our game against them and at least go down swinging. They really are in a terrible place and I fucking love it.

  20. Martin Atkinson was an absolute twat tonight. Again. Once again he's at his old trick of trying to level up a game we're winning by giving the oppos all the easy free kicks and deliberately standing in the way of players trying to pass the ball to a teammate. I swear I saw Thiago having to dribble around the cunt to create another chance in the 2nd half. A moving tribute to Ronaldo's baby son observed all around the ground. Have those everton cunts gone on about us 'defiling' the moment by us singing YNWA? The united fans couldnt help showing themselves to be utter cunts as well with their 'Always the victim' and Won it 3 times without killing anyone' chants in the 2nd half when they had nothing else to sing about.

As Neel Burton, author of The Meaning of Madness, put it, this is “the healthy suspicion that modern life has no meaning and that modern society is absurd and alienating”. In a goal-driven, work-oriented culture, this is deeply threatening.

  42. While I normally prefer to bask in our glory rather than pour salt into the wound of others on nights like this, it's hard having grown up in the 90s not to take a moment and point out how completely fucked they are! I see some (mostly their fans/Neville) are blaming the owners, some of us are blaming the fans, their managers are getting stick, and the players are lo and behold also getting their fair share of the blame. The club is completely rotten to the core, and I just can't see a way back for them, even with the unlimited money they possess. They can easily go 10 more years without a sniff of the title. Getting ten Hag in will only be another failed project, as there is no way he gets enough time to both implement a new playing style and getting the players he requires for his system. They have literally tons of players they need to get rid of, all on extortionate sums of money. The ONE really good young player they have is having his career ruined, the others are overrated as hell because they can dribble a bit. Their club captain is about the worst footballer in the entire league, and they've got players that are more concerned with their marketability than playing acutal football. Ahhhh, I could go on all night, but I won't.. In short, it's glorious!!!

  44. Thiago - surely one of the great Anfield performances. Just sublime from start to finish. Robertson's determined run forward really was magnificent, because it basically woke the whole team up. Maybe now a few more will understand my point about the Benfica game - at this level, and with this run-in, you can take a physical break but not a mental one, and it doesn't matter who is in the team, you cannot allow sloppiness to creep in. The way we started the second half was just ridiculous, and it's happened too often. You save energy by keeping possession and staying positive. As soon as you start aimlessly knocking the ball around, you hand over initiative, you get careless, and suddenly you have to use MORE energy to sort it all out. Hendo needs to have a long think about his game. He did so much wrong it was stunning. Passing the ball backwards from their penalty area, rushing a shot in their area when he had loads of time, trying a crazy volley that he never gets right, giving the ball away god knows hopw many times, passing the ball back whenever we started to regain momentum - he's got to sort his head out. But it was a great result, the first half was simply brilliant, Salah is back and some of the performances were just off the charts. Minus marks for the ref - we could have had three players crocked because he just let the mancs take out their frustration on bodies.
