  1. “now let's say we get a few of the players we have been linked with in - the likes of Tristan Nydam (0m), Charlie Ward (0m) and we go for Ben Alnwick (0m) and Martin Crainie (0m), we buy Jerome Sinclair or David Nugent on a free thats 0m spent, and probably looking at around 10k in wages (again a generous estimate) leaves the club with 190m debt and 500k in wage deficit still burning a hole in our lovely Iranians pocket, but no statement sale, just some very good ones that will make the balance sheet slightly competitive, say we then sort a 3m sale on Richy lad (current flavour of the month after his 5 goals this season and also an asset we depserately need selling) and we give him parity with ronald koeman on continuing to pay his wages - so another 14k and 3m gone we are then left with a 187m and 486k pw situation, to go out their and target a 'statement' sale for the club to propel us into league one, go begging to Tottenham, ask them to pay our asking price for DCL and see what they actually say when we admit wer're fucking desperate, and see what his agent says when we offer to let him go for free just to get the wages off the books. Honestly it sounds mental even typing this out, but money talks in football, and if we are serious in hurtling into administration then we couldn't make a bigger attempt than this"

  2. Weird game this. We never looked like ourselves and we definitely can’t say we played well, yet we dominated the game, hit the woodwork three times and saw two other certain goals prevented by heroic blocks. Inter basically had one and half chances and scored from one of them. Contrary to much of the post match analysis we’ve seen, we deserved to go through over the two legs but the way we did it definitely leaves something of a bitter taste. We didn’t exactly back door our way in to the last eight but we certainly didn’t roar into it either, in the way that Bayern did for example. Ultimately though it really doesn’t matter. This ‘defeat’ will bother me for a few days but then it will be forgotten as there are no consequences to it. It hasn’t hurt us other than maybe knocked the aura of Anfield invincibility a touch. It may even help as it shows what can happen if we aren’t at full throttle. So what went wrong? Well it’s easy to point to all of the near misses and put it down to one of those nights, but there was more to it than that. We never looked right all night, especially at the top end of the pitch. The passing wasn’t sharp, the movement never looked right and the forwards seemed to lose the ball every single time they had it. That’s maybe harsh on Sadio as he wasn’t bad, but Diogo and Mo were shite in the first half. Mo got better after the break and his second half display was fine, but Jota just couldn’t get going and frankly I’m amazed he lasted 80 minutes before eventually making way for Diaz. Inter were feisty and positive and made life very difficult for us, but they didn’t threaten much. They pressed us well and they passed around our press, but they just seemed a bit toothless up front. Sanchez was given the nod over Dzeko and to be fair he rolled back the years and put in a quality performance until his costly sending off. I’ll get to that in a bit. The energy and desire showed by him really took me by surprise. I don’t know how he’s done for Inter but I remember how fat and shit he was at United. This was more like the Arsenal Sanchez though. Lively, skilful, hard working, he was popping up fucking everywhere. I was really impressed. Some will say he should have been sent off for a high, studs up challenge on Thiago. I would say he certainly could have been sent off for that, and it looks particularly bad on the freeze frame of the moment of impact. But watching it at full speed I’d say a red card would have been somewhat harsh, simply because there was a lack of force behind it. It was a rake of the studs rather than a full force, dangerous impact challenge. The ref could have justified a red if he’d wanted to, but for me a yellow was just about right. It’s one of the few things the prick did get right all night. What the hell was wrong with him? He’s been refereeing at the top level for donkey’s years and he’s done loads of our games. I had a generally positive view of him before this but he was fucking hopeless. At one point I was thinking Inter had paid off another ref, but then he sent Sanchez off who dispelled that theory. He was not biased, as I’m sure Inter are just as baffled by a lot of his decisions as we are. He fluctuated from giving no free kicks at all to giving them for absolutely nothing. They weren’t major decisions, thankfully, but so many of the minor decisions were just completely wrong. As an example, Virgil was about to head the ball clear and was blatantly shoved in the back and missed his header. Such an obvious foul, but this clown said play on. A second later Dumfries is taking a tumble after minimal contact from Robbo (I’m not sure he touched him at all) and not only is he giving a free-kick but he’s booking Robbo, who is immediately pointing to where the Virgil challenge took place and is yelling “THAT’S A FOUL!”. There were loads of things like that, it was embarrassing to watch at times he was getting so much wrong. The worst decision (or I should say non-decision) of the night was when a defender just barged into Mo from behind and flattened him about a second before the ball even arrived, and he gave nothing. That is legitimately one of the worst calls I’ve ever seen. It was genuinely incredible. He definitely didn’t help but as woeful as he was I’m not using him as an excuse for how we played. In fact, he probably made life easier for us by sending off Sanchez. Again, that’s a decision that you can give or you can ignore. You can say it’s a yellow because he caught Fabinho with his follow through, but if I’m honest I absolutely hate that decision. Sanchez wins the ball and his follow through isn’t high, it’s basically on the floor as he tries to pull his foot down to avoid contact with Fabinho. We shouldn’t be giving cards for those. We shouldn’t even be giving free-kicks. It’s different when the follow through is high, but I think that’s harsh. Maybe I need to just get used to it though as that’s the way the game has gone. It had a huge impact on the game because had just gone ahead on the night and we were set for a potentially very edgy last 20 minutes or so. Their confidence was now up after that brilliant strike by the otherwise anonymous Lautoro Fernandez but almost immediately the wind was taken out of their sails with the sending off. Actually Fernandez had another chance just before the goal. A much easier chance, but it hit Robbo on the heel and deflected wide. Given how shite he’d been over the two games it was a surprise when he rocketed one into the top corner. Bad goal from our point of view, as Joel gave it away cheaply and we never dealt with what came next. Hell of a finish though. When they scored I was worried. Not massively so as I expected a response from us and we were still ahead in the tie, but there was concern there because of how we’d been playing. If the sending off doesn’t happen when it does, who knows how this tie would have gone? So I didn’t blame the Inter coaching staff and subs going mad about it. One of them was sent to the stands for taking his protests too far, although Simone Inzaghi stayed fairly calm, to his credit. Imagine Simeone in that situation! That decision killed any chance they had because there was no way ten men were going to complete the comeback against us. So any concern I had when they scored disappeared when Sanchez did. I was hoping we would avoid defeat though as losing at Anfield is something that massively bothers me now because our record here is so great in recent years (at least when fans are present). We’ve been on such a great run of late that it’s something ideally you’d want to keep going, but then losing a game that doesn’t actually matter can be a good thing in the long run. We just didn’t look right and there were lots of examples of it. Whether it’s Joel’s weak ball down the line that led to the Inter goal or Robbo failing to beat the only covering defender with his cross when it was easier to bypass him and pick out one of the three team-mates that were running into the box unopposed, it was evident all night from most of the team. Two of our better players were Jones and Thiago and they were the first ones to be subbed. I didn’t agree with that but at the same time I do think Henderson and Keita gave us more control than we had previously. Then again, Inter were down to ten men so that made a big difference. I liked what I saw from Curtis but I don’t think we got him the ball enough. He looked bright and sharp when he had it but we couldn’t really build up any momentum as every time the ball went the forwards they invariably lost it cheaply. Thiago was involved more and he played well I thought. He won the ball back brilliantly on a few occasions with slide tackles and I assume his withdrawal was just a precaution following his injury. It did surprise me that with five subs to call on that Klopp didn’t make a change up front earlier. To me the game was crying out for Diaz but maybe because we were still creating chances Klopp wanted to see how it played out. Mo hit the post twice and it just one of those nights for him. I don’t think he did anything wrong with either chance, it’s just unlucky really. The first one comes after some lovely play by Thiago. Jota challenged the keeper and his punch fell to Mo. It looked like the goal was gaping but there were defenders back on the line so he had to try to place it in the corner and it hit the post. The second one was from a lovely pass by Sadio and Mo did everything right with the finish, it just didn’t go in. It happens, but far better it happens in this game than in the league. Diaz eventually came on and looked great again. He looked like he’d salvaged a draw for us late on but Vidal arrived from absolutely nowhere to make a block. That typified Inter’s resilience. Woodwork great last ditch defending was the main reason we lost this game. In the first half they survived a couple of major scares too. Joel headed against the bar and then Virgil had a goal bound header blocked by a defender. He didn’t know much about it but his desire to get in front of his man and try to impact the play probably deserved some reward. They defended very well and they had luck when they needed it. Sometimes that happens. There’s no cause for concern at this point although there’s no denying that ee weren’t at our best last weekend against West Ham and we were off it again in this one. It’s possibly a result of winning the League Cup Final and then dropping off just a fraction in terms of focus and intensity. We’ll get it back, hopefully soon and before it actually does cost us. Star man was probably Trent. His set-piece delivery was great, as was most of his crossing in general, while he also made some decisive contributions defensively. It’s going to be interesting to see how many changes Klopp makes this weekend. I don’t expect too many but who knows, he’s done it before where he makes eight changes out of the blue just to give us fresh legs. I don’t know if tiredness has contributed to the last couple of performances, but if it has then maybe we’ll see sweeping changes at Brighton. Personally I don’t think it is tiredness, but it’s probably worth freshening it up at least a little. Hendo will come back in after not starting this one, we might see Konate too. We have to see Diaz as he’s the liveliest of all of our forwards right now, and certainly the one who loses the ball the least. Since Potter arrived there Brighton have played us as well as anybody has but that needs to stop now. We need the points but we also need a performance. Hopefully this kick up the arse we had against Inter will refocus the team and get us playing our football again. Alisson: Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson; Fabinho, Thiago (Henderson), Jones (Keita); Salah, Jota (Diaz), Mané:

  6. Apologies for monopolizing the thread for a bit. "Tom from Facebook" - other summaries are available (ISW etc). * I am posting these because I find them very informative and easy to read. I don't post just a link because the site doesn't link to a FB post properly and I am trying not to drive traffic to Tom Cooper's profile because he is constantly complaining about too many people interacting with him thtough FB as a result. Some of you said you find them useful, but since TK brought it up, I can stop if nobody else is interested, no skin etc. Even better, I can then pass his stuff on here as mine, like I know what is going on. * Over to you Tom "Good morning everybody! Here my summary for the last 24-36 hours (8 Mar 22). CAA - Combined Arms Army (Russia) BTG - Battalion Tactical Group (Russia) GTA - Guards Tank Army (Russia) GTD - Guards Tank Division (Russia) IFV - infantry fighting vehicle LOC - Line of Control (old frontline between Ukraine and Separatists in the Donbass region) MBT - main battle tank MRB - Motorized Rifle Brigade (throw a G in the front if Guards) MRD - Motorized Rifle Division (ditto for the G for Guards). Majority of the Russian Ground Forces are Motorized Rifle (i.e. Mechanized Infantry with supporting tanks) RFA – Russian Federation Army/Russian Armed Forces RF-9xxxx - Russian military aviation registration UCAV – unmanned combat aerial vehicle VDV - Vozdushno-desantnye voyska (Russian Airborne forces) VKS - Vozdushno-kosmicheskiye sily (Air-Space Force, Russia) West OSK – Western Military District, RFA STRATEGIC I’m slowly getting tired of US-Polish quarrel over delivery of MiG-29s to Ukraine. First the populist idiots in charge in Warsaw announced they’re ready to immediately transfer all of Polish MiGs to the Ramstein AFB (major US air base in Germany), then the Pentagon – mind: the Pentagon, not the State Department (then, contrary to what you’ve been said, it’s the Pentagon that’s running the US foreign policy) – said, ‘we do not know what are you talking about’. Actually this was supposed to be run in clandestine fashion. The MiGs were simply to ‘disappear’ and get replaced by second-hand F-16s from the USA. And that’s it. ‘Plausible denial’. …BUT, idiotic populist politicians can’t keep anything clandestine – because it’s in their interest to score propaganda points: yeah, lets provoke a WWIII so some populist there can maintain himself in power... Whatever… few advices for those who like to follow ‘bang stuff’: - For an excellent overview of what has the West supplied to Ukraine in the last two weeks, check this link: https://www.overtdefense.com/.../rundown-western-anti... - For a one-by-one review of all visually confirmed losses in vehicles and aircraft so far, follow the Oryx blog: https://www.oryxspioenkop.com/.../attack-on-europe... The latter is useful because its indicative of the ‘win-loss’ ratio being something like 3.5-to-1 for the Ukrainians – at least in vehicles. Considering all the catastrophic heliborne assaults by the Russian VDV and Chechens, it’s perfectly possible that it’s even higher in terms of human losses (not when one adds Ukrainian civilians, though….BTW, the number of those fleeing into the EU has surpassed 2 million, yesterday). PERSONAL NOTE Since all my pleas to stop asking me for 'friends' have failed (the counter is past 5000 since 5 days), and I'm still getting 150-200 requests a day, I'm now including it here: if you can, just click on 'follow', please. Right now, I've got no time to find an alternative solution. NORTH ‘The Russians are back‘. Now the 35th CAA is pushing with infantry from the west: over the last two days this has infiltrated and forced Ukrainians out of Borodianka, Irpin, Bucha, Vorzel, Korpyliv, Demydiv…. Reportedly, the house-to-house fighting is so bitter, there were multiple cases of hand-to-hand combat and losses are heavy – on both sides. Further south, the Ukrainian 14th Mechanised seems to have a problem with destroying the survivors of the 35th CAA’s VDV in the Makariv area: thus, the highway connecting Kyiv with the West remains blocked. NORTH-EAST Fierce fighting has been reported all around Chernihiv, but especially in the south, where the Russians have cut off the last land connection between this ‘pocket’ (held by something like three Ukrainian brigades) and the rest of Ukraine, and the east, where the 41st CAA (that is: BTG 90th Tank Division) attempted an assault directly into the city, but was repelled. Further south, there is a large pocket held by Ukrainian forces around the Nizhyn. They're holding out and I do not expect anything to happen there soon: the Russians are busy elsewhere. On the eastern side of Kyiv, and as expected, forward elements of the 2nd GTA – apparently including the 15th GMRB – have reached Bohdanivka on the M01 highway (connecting Kyiv with Chernihiv), only 15km outside Kyiv, yesterday (correspondingly, I’ll ‘move’ the reporting on fighting in this area to ‘NORTH’ in the future). The Ukrainian 1st Tank seems to have survived a concentrated, three-prong attack of the 41st and the 2nd GTA, and to have withdrawn to.... 'somewhere in the Kyiv area'. Further east, the Russian 1st GTA is lagging badly behind expectations: it's still busy fighting off Ukrainian counterattacks into its southern flank. Seems, the glorious Tamanskaya – the 2nd Guards Mechanised Division, the unit famous for its appearances on May-Parades on the Red Square in Moscow – can’t do anything useful at all. Yes, I do recall: already back in the 1980s RUMINT was that this is just a ‘show/parade/guard-duties’ unit. But what they’re doing now… oh dear… while the 2nd GTA steam-rolled into eastern Kyiv, yesterday, the 2nd GMD failed to capture at least Pryluky. Frankly, as always, I doubt its CO knows where is what part of his unit. Further....east, not south: the 4th Guards Tank Division – the famous Kantemirovskaya – is only excelling at leaving a trail of destroyed and captured T-80s in its wake, all the way from Konotop (still in Ukrainian hands) to Romny. With other words: the 1st GTA failed to achieve even one third of its war aims so far. Sumy is enveloped by the 1st GTA and heavily shelled and bombed from the sky – but holding out. The garrison is even running raids against Russian convoys that are trying to bypass the town. A ‘humanitarian cease-fire’ did take place yesterday, and some 3,500 civilians were evacuated, but was then interrupted by renewed fighting. As said already days ago, we’re going to see lots of such scams, the longer this fracas goes on – and all are going to serve two purposes: Russian propaganda (‘evacuating poor civilians that were used as human shields’) and setting the stage free for all-out attacks (‘civilians are evacuated, only terrorists left inside, now we’re free to bomb and shell as we like’). For all practical purposes, the northern flank of the Russian 6th CAA is on defensive…. Even on retreat: after securing Chuhiv, the Ukrainians claim they have pushed for about 10km north. The 6th CAA reacted with an heliborne assault on Vovchansky District, yesterday, but this pointless effort ended in a panicky withdrawal of the surviving VDVs… That itch in my small toe tells me the CO 6th CAA will be the next Russian general ‘shot by a Nazi sniper’… EAST The 20th CAA has reached Izium and Rubizhne from the north, and the weakened Ukrainian 53rd Mechanised Brigade seems unable to stop them. Indeed, meanwhile they’re in the process of surrounding Sievierodonetsk and Lysychansk. There’s a bitter battle for Raisin, with the Russians slowly pushing the Ukranians out of the town. Not sure if it’s a good idea for the Ukrainians further south – along what is left of the original LOC – to let the enemy envelop their northern flak: at least I doubt this war might get solved by negotiations ‘on time’ for them to hold out a siege. On the other side, they've got excellent fortifications there, and are largely safe 'inside' the same. Mariupol is a bloody shambles. There are reports about massive volumes of the Russian artillery barrages, immense destruction, bodies lying on the streets… Unnecessary to say: a population of about 400,000 is cut off from water, electricity, food and other supplies. I agree with those who say this is going to remain the Russian objective No.1 – ahead of Odessa and Kyiv: it would grant them a land connection to Crimea. Combat-wise, the Russians are pushing on the airport from the south, and pushing through Staryi Krym towards south. On the eastern side of the city, they’ve captured Talakivka and Shryokyne yesterday. North of Mariupol, the Ukrainians have recovered Volnovakha (apparently smashing a better part of the Separatist Sparta Battalion in the process) and seem to be pushing on Staryi Krym now. This is bold, but I doubt they’ve got enough troops to lift the siege of Mariupol already now: what is left of the 54th Mechanised Brigade is busy holding the LOC, while the 56th Motor Brigade is too weak for the task. Moreover, the Russians seem to be already trying to envelop this advance by pushing on Rozivka, about 15km further north, and that from the east – i.e. into the eastern flank of the 56th. SOUTH This is a ‘must, must, must’ area for the Russian now. Zusko’s 58th CAA ‘must’ breach towards the West, it ‘must’ reach Odessa, it ‘must’ this and it must that. As if the 58th CAA is the only army of the Russian Armed Forces to fight… And so, and almost certainly on pressure from the West OSK, after failing to take Voznesensk and Mykolaiv, Zusko now launched a new advance – directly towards north. Fast advances are 'fun' for commanders of his BTGs, but overall situation of the western flank of the 58th CAA is literally begging for a catastrophe now: first invest one city; lose troops; then invest another town; lose troops; then have to guard frontlines to both, while assaulting in the third direction….? Nothing better but to scatter your forces over a huge area, and then let the enemy defeat them one by one… of course, 'everything is going to be fine' because the West OSK sent reinforcements: a train loaded with another BTG of the VDV (BMD-4, BTR-MDM etc.) was sighted while travelling north from Crimea, yesterday. And still, busy reinforcing Voznesensk and Mykolaiv, Ukrainians seem to have been taken by surprise. Moreover, their 17th Tank Brigade is lamely sitting somewhere north of Kherson and doing nothing for more than a week: either it was badly damaged in earlier fighting, or only partially mobilised (gauging by the Russians looting part of its storage facility: see the attached screen-grab for one of T-64s found there), or its commander prefers to let Zusko do whatever he likes. Gauging by his performance early during the war, I tend to lean towards the latter… Ah yes, and since Zusko already has his hands full with operations in the west, lets increase his problems by ordering him to resume advance in the east. Therefore, since yesterday the eastern flank of the 58th CAA is pushing on Pologa and Gulay-Pole – apparently with the aim of advancing on Raisin and thus into the back of the Ukrainian troops along the LOC. With this, Zaporozhye should be safe. For the time being.

  7. They're trying to do what City have been doing, only they forgot one important thing. You need to cook the books so you're declaring big profits. These daft bastards are declaring record breaking losses every year. What do they think is going to happen? If you're going to spend money you don't legally have under FFP requirements, you need to cover that up with loads of blag, overly inflated sponsorship deals so you're still profitable. Instead of wasting so much money sacking managers, they should pay for a better accountant.

  8. Milosevic actually "condemned ethnic cleansing", opposed Karadzic and tried to stop the war that dismembered Yugoslavia. I would ignore you, but since you tagged me with the LaRouche post and upped the ante with Milošević, which is historic revisionism I take personally, I will reply. I don't know who you are, just a reincarnation of posters I interacted before, or a new addition. You "keep an eye" on LaRouche because you can pick bullshit from that carcass to fit your ideological construct ("construct" is probably flattering the confusion of poorly understood half-baked ideas that you somehow stumbled upon). Why I am saying this: it is fairly obvious from your post on Pilger and how his article on Milošević Hague verdict was news to you that you are a relative novice (it was a really big thing at the time, I think I even nudged you slightly in that direction last time you quoted me, when you found and article about Monblot vs. Pilger and searched the thread for "Pilger" so you can insert it somewhere and my old post came up). Now, since you offered to educate me last time, I feel obliged to return the favour: what I would suggest to you is read some proper "mainstream" history or watch some "mainstream" documentaries, try to understand basic context and then dive into the world of LaRouches and various agenda-driven material. So, no, Milošević didn't try to stop the war that dismembered Yugoslavia, he was, directly and indirectly the main instigator and architect of it, he occasionally tried to rein in the forces he unleashed when they threatened to spiral out of control (for political feasibility and tactical reasons) and was very careful not to leave a paper trail behind him (as was the case with assassinations of political opponents in Serbia he and his wife ordered in the '90s). Same way, Putin is rightly another "demon number one", because he invaded a neighbouring country, threatening to destroy the international security set-up which more or less held up in Europe for decades, killing up to 10,000 people on all sides in less than two weeks, under the pretext of demilitarization and denazification (which cranks from LaRouche organization think was fully justified - let me direct you to their daily video missives on Youtube, just so you further "educate" your self who you consider worth taking seriously. I thought they have gone away for good, but there seems to be renewed demand for what they peddled). A small dot on the horizon, completely overshadowed by the previous paragraph is the "history of Nazism in Ukraine" which has to be studied and understood in its historic and political context. In the context of current Russia's aggression, it is just a propaganda tool which the aggressor uses as justification for its actions for purposes domestic consumption and a topic the same aggressor is constantly trying to introduce in the overall western narrative, in order to make everything just that much more muddled. People who don't understand this are being used for this purpose.

  9. Inter needed a plan as they were 2 nil down from the first leg Ref was shite but he wasn't just shite with us Sanchez should have gone in the first half As good as Martinez's goal was, they didn't threaten all that much and even the commentator said VVD was owning Martinez We didn't play great but still hit the woodwork 3 times and Diaz nearly scored at the death (Matips header goes in and we win about 3 nil) When we won this a couple of years back we had a massive scare in the group stages against Napoli, lost 2 nil away in Belgrade (relied on Alisson) and also had a drab 0:0 at Anfield with Bayern Munich We are in the quarter finals Calm down.

  10. A Saturday lunchtime kick off down on the south coast means a very early start for the fans travelling down. And it’s against a team that has caused us to stutter in recent years and made us appear disjointed. They can do that to a lot of sides in the division so it isn’t specific to us. That said, there’s a balance to redress, so what do we need? Nous. Organisation. Grit. Attitude. Yer ma. Just do it. Order. Know-how. Energy. Skill. I don’t ask for much. Last season’s corresponding fixture was a hugely frustrating one. Having seen a penalty awarded against us for a foul by Neco, Maupay dragged his effort wide. Mo at the other end thought he’d put the Reds ahead after Bobby’s inch perfect through ball played him in, only for VAR to intervene and disallow the goal for a non-existent offside. At the time, it seemed as though we were having goals disallowed every week. Into the second half, and Diogo finally got us ahead. Sadio thought he’s doubled the advantage with a header from a free kick but again VAR deemed it to be offside. That was a more obvious call. VAR wasn’t done yet though. Right at the end of stoppage time, Welbeck hit the deck following the faintest of touch from Robbo as he looked to clear the ball. As soon as the ref was told to view it on the monitor, you knew he would succumb to VAR pressure and point to the spot. Gross converted the spot kick and that was that. 41 years earlier, things were more straightforward. More physical stuff was let go by the officials, and it didn’t look like officials were queuing up to screw us over. We went to the Goldstone Ground and spanked the Seagulls. Souey and Kenny set us on our way and David Johnno added a third before a consolation for Brighton from Ray Clarke. Kenny added a 4th and the points were heading back to Anfield. The reigning league champions would go on to retain the trophy that season. Here’s the match report. The top film of mid-November 1979 was a rom-com starring Dudley Moore and directed by Blake Edwards (he of the Pink Panther series with Peter Sellers as the hapless Inspector Clouseau). Edwards could do comedy, and obviously Moore was known for his double act alongside Peter Cook. I’ve never seen the film 10, and I imagine there are many who, while they have seen it, don’t really remember it much. Having read up a little about it for this match thread piece, it seemed to have retained a reputation for being very funny without being brilliant. Like most people though, I know of it because of the stupendous Bo Derek and her body frolicking on a beach, which drew attention away from her weird corn row hairdo. What’s that? You want a photo? But of course! What we need in this game is a return of our ruthless edge. We’ve allowed Brighton to have too much of a say of proceedings over the last 3 or 4 games. This season, they’ve tended to look organised and move the ball well, without being able to make it count. Take that away from them, go there with the right mentality, focus and application, and show that it won’t matter what they try and do, we have the answers and can pose questions that they simply do not have answers for. 3 points and onwards.

  14. I'm really looking forward to this one when I'm on my walk later. I've formed quite a strong opinion in my own head that we were actually extremely comfortable in this match and that Inter had to score an absolute worldly just to get on the score sheet. Our woodwork hits were not glances, but really unlucky ones that at least 2 of would normally go in. And then there's Virgs header where their defender was very lucky to get a block, and Diazs great chance. We could have won this one very easily 99 times out of 100. Last night was the 1 occasion where we lose. And it's meaningless! In fact, it's a good loss. We get rid of the winning streak and get to start a new one on Saturday hopefully. The loss that means nothing as we should have won. It's just plusses everywhere you look. That's the opinion I have formed and I'll be on here moaning again if that's not confirmed by the podcasters.

  16. Gambling ads. Really dissapointed to see Carragher and Souness in the latest ad for Sky betting. The misery that this industry causes in this country is well documented, rips families apart, condemns millions of kids to a life of poverty and causes countless suicides. There may be as many 2.4 million gambling addicts in the UK. Why these already highly paid presenters are willing to associate with this industry is a mystery to me. Just greed really, they don’t care about the social impacts of the industry.

  17. Great pod. Regarding the Trent v Reece James debate, I dont think Trent is actually defensively inferior now. In fact, there were stats knocking around last year which showed Trent was better than him at defensive metrics like tackles and interceptions. Tbf, I dont have the stats for this season so I'm open to being shot down based on those. I do think we shouldnt ignore the fact that James plays as a wingback with the security of a center back behind him due to Chelsea's 3 at the back system. This ensures he doesnt have to do as much defending compared to Trent who has to cover a lot more area in his fullback role. Overall, I think Trent is the better player defensively and offensively. Especially with the noticeable improvement in his defending over the past year.

  18. She's got a habit of asking me what's happening on telly even though she can see it, or asking me what someone has just said on telly as she missed it while she was on her phone. "Ukraine has destroyed a Russian tank with a bazooka" "What was that I didn't hear?" "Ukraine has destroyed a Russian tank with Kate Bush singing babooshka."

  19. Of course it’s allowed. You’re allowed to post anything you want, you’re just not allowed to do it without others having the right of response. I’m not sure why some on here feign censorship just because some people don’t unquestioningly accept their views. Now, about these biological weapons facilities. Where are they, what weapons do they make, how are these weapons stored, when were payments made, how much do they cost, and who made the payments? So far I’ve only seen Russian claims, and knowing what we do about how truthful Russia is, I’d like more information. There’s no way somebody as knowledgeable as you would have spewed out Russian claims practically verbatim, so if you could supply those details that’d be great. Thanks.

  27. Fuck 'em. It's come round now to bite them on the arse when they celebrated us being on the verge and joined together with those Manc cunts to send social media posts to FSG, telling them not to invest in us as we were "murderers". If a points deduction does happen, I can feel a double measure of JD Single Barrel passing my lips and a quadruple for when they finally drop.

  30. I didn't bother reading the "Bramley Moore update" last week, beyond the headline that the contractors were saying that they're still committed to the project. Of course they are. They're committed to being paid. Once the money dries up, they'll fuck off, leaving nothing but a sandpit and a load of exiled fish.

  31. We’ve been a bit off recently, passing poorer than normal, chances not being put away, even Matip’s poor pass out that led to their goal, not the sort of thing we’ve been accustomed to. However, we are through to the quarter finals and we’ve won one of the four trophies that are available to win. Of course, overall we need to improve, (but then you should always be aiming for perfection anyway), but sometimes you meet a team who’s style and application just seem to prevent you from playing the way you normally do. A bit like Athletico Madrid, and although not as cynical, I felt Inter were like that tonight. I also agree with Dion Dublin, who said on Radio 5, on the way home, that he felt we kept Inter where we wanted, bar for an unexpected worldie from Martinez, and that we could have gone up a gear if needed in his opinion. We lost, but we didn’t, which is a big plus, and I expect things will be getting addressed by Klopp and his back room staff tomorrow at training. What we’re trying to do is a very big ask, and it disappoints when we fail at anything, but I’m sure the players are as disappointed as we are. At least we’re not Everton.

  33. I find the best thing you can do with them is just ignore them and don't say anything when they lose. If you do they think you are still arsed or even obsessed with them despite the fact that they claim to despise us but can't stop talking about us. One lad on mine keeps tagging me into shit posts about Liverpool and Everton trying to keep some sort of banter and rivalry going and I just ignore them. They need us to keep them relevant and if you don't keep them relevant they hate it because they have no rivalry with anyone else seeing as they suck off the mancs and try to cosy up to anyone who has a chance of beating us.

  37. I have a much better question. There are 650 MPs in Parliament and in addition members of the HoL were allowed to attend and watch the address from the balcony. However, a cursory search would have revealed that the government only supplied just over 500 pairs of earphones, no doubt distributed first to the main parties over independents. So, why did the Conservative government (that you so love) not supply enough headsets for everyone? One to address to your wife who is a member of the Conservative party.

  39. They were very good in possession in both games - probably the best technical side we've faced this season except City and maybe Chelsea. But they had next to no threat and if we played that game again ten times we'd win it comfortably each time.

  41. Their goal completely struck me by surprise, I was actually thinking there’s absolutely not a chance we don’t qualify here. Don’t think we even played poorly, just one of those odd scenarios that 2 leg knock outs sometimes provides. In golf terms you’re between clubs, not needing to go completely go for it but at same time you need to keep focus and see it out. We were very lucky not to score any of Matip, Van Dijk, Salah’s two of post and Diaz chances. Their goal was an absolute stunner, remember Valbuena scoring a similar one for Marseille in 2007 but came from a stupid goal kick routine. In the last 8, this is where it gets interesting.

  43. This has just reminded me of the time I was around 12-13 and we were doing footie in PE. The teacher had a go at the class for bottling challenges and appealing for fouls when barely touched, and then proceeded to join in the game. Obviously he’d opened the door so we hacked him to shit, people were throwing reducers in all over the place and he couldn’t say a thing about it. It was amazing, the twat.
