  1. What the majority of people moan about is not spending £150m every summer but looking 3 or 4 years in advance to sustain your success. Do it gradually rather than letting all your first team get old at once then you need a massive rebuild that then takes two or three years to sort or all the new players to settle. I'm fully on board with the club wanting to clear about all the players who contribute fuck all to the team. If that £60m for 4 nomarks buys us a player who is a first team regular then there's no issue. If you've rebuilding the squad and introduced one or two new signings every window whilst phasing out the players you don't want or the ones on the decline you don't have to endure a couple of seasons of transition or rebuilding. Say for instance Liverpool had bought four or five players over the last six transfer windows barely anyone would kick off. I'm not even talking about buying Harry Kane or Sancho. Signings the level and price of Malen, Sanches, Botman, Doku, Aouar and Gravenberch are what the club normally targets. Lots of fans are worried or annoyed that the owners seem to be relaxed about everything and seem to have no urgency in maintaining the level we've worked do hard to achieve or moving up a notch. People seem to believe that if you want the club to spend some money you are a spoilt twat who wants big £150m spending sprees every year.

  2. Surely it's about making the right signings, rather than the 'massive signings' or the 'marquee signings'? Looking at that list there's a good few signings (Gini, Mane, Salah, Robertson, Fabinho etc) that we didn't pay massive amounts for and that weren't lauded as the best in Europe at the time (I remember the disappointment from some on here and the laughs from rival fans when those deals were done) - but only a fool would still say that they weren't the right signings.

  3. Come on man, that is ridiculous. It’s about getting a good player, not just how much you spend.

  4. I’d forgotten about this thread. Anyway it was her Indoor’s (hereinafter referred to as HI) birthday last month and it was arranged for some of us to go out for lunch. Those of you who have seen my posts on the various Christmas threads will be familiar with Bint and Cockney Wanker. Bint is HI’s niece from the pit of hell and as the aforementioned outing was discussed between HI and Bint’s mum the latter delivered a fait accompli. Shall we invite Bint? Very rhetorical question. So as I was not present I had to look forward to the brain dead parasite’s attendance. Bint turns up late. No apologies to anyone. Brings a carrier bag full of wrapped presents for HI to have the dramatic effect (which turned out be tat anyway) with the attitude which clearly said ‘aren’t you all delighted to see me’. She wanted us all to hear about Cockney Wanker’s business, a tin pot printers in Epsom. This was during the Euros and wanker was making a load of blag T-shirts etc with the 3 Lions emblem which of course is under copyright. She then continued with more trivia. Anyway after eating I go up to settle the bill for all six of us. I came out of the pub and I hadn’t left a tip because I’d put it on a card. The others, bar one (guess who) leave some change on the table quite generously. They all thanked me for the meal. Well, not exactly all. News we hear a few days later is that wanker had been selling his shite to quite a few of the local gippos. Seems the travelling folk weren’t too happy with the goods delivered as they broke into the company van, nicked a load of printing gear from it and threatened to twat 10 pounds of shit out of him. In August another happy family gathering awaits. HI’s cousin is coming down from Yorkshire (we’re in Herts) and all are going except me. This is a mutual agreement between HI and me as Wanker and Bint will be in attendance. HI doesn’t want me getting done for splattering their blood all over the walls. The lovely couple have a habit of turning up for these occasions and never pay a fucking penny. Also the visitors from Whippet land had their engagement party to which we were ‘invited’ at a pub that used to be a haunt of mine. This event was probably about 10 years ago. Nice meal, probably about 20 or so of us. Then comes time to settle up. We all had to put our hands in our pocket. Some invite. I’m not sure if it has been communicated to Cockney Wanker that he is on borrowed time with me for singing ‘sign on, sign on’ the first time I’d met the cunt. Nothing happened because it was at HI’s mum’s birthday bash and there is no way I would have caused an upset. If he is unaware he will have quite a rude awakening. HI has the sense to keep me at bay. Anyway another spectacular we’ve both swerved is Bint’s 50th later this year to celebrate such a joyous period of her not having done a day’s work in her miserable existence. She’d be so welcome in the monarchy. HI knows how I feel and agrees with me. But dare we say anything to the others? What do you think? Thing is it will all fucking explode one day as the considerable restraint I have shown with Bint over the years is at breaking point. Endless snidy, sarcastic digs. Unprovoked. Worst was when HI was at home KO’d due to chemo (she’s good now) and everyone was running around doing everything they could. Except Bint. She just sat on her lazy fat arse across the road and did fuck all. It had always been obvious that if she picked up with anyone he would be an utter wanker. Spot on. When I do loose it (and I will one day) guess who’s fault it will be? Sorry for the long post. Rant over. For now anyway. You can choose your friends…...

Good mate of mine, Len Williams from Halewood tragically had a heart attack whilst taking part in a charity bike ride a few Sundays ago from Liverpool to Chester and back via the Birkenhead Mersey tunnel. Some older members on here may remember Len as a South Liverpool player (Centre half)who played in the same side as John Aldridge, shortly before John moved to Newport County. He was laid to rest at springwood crematorium yesterday, and his wife Rhona gave a wonderful, heartwarming, humorous eulogy. RIP Len,Lifelong friend and great footballer and massive Liverpool fan

  8. Just seen a Worldwide football Facebook page that says Pierluigi Collina has been voted the best referee of all time. Checked the comments and not surprisingly they are full of Evertonians calling him a cheat and a corrupt twat. All of them seem to be convinced that he took a bribe to stop Everton progressing into the CL. Even though they lost both legs 2-1. Fucking tits.

  9. After a month or so without a dog, it just isn't the same. I'd hoped to go down the rescue route again, but family circumstances and other things made it less than ideal right now. My family knew I'd always wanted a Boston Terrier, and with my 40th coming up, one was left in a litter nearby (they're pretty rare in these parts); so, long story short, I'm now the proud pal of this little bellend.

  13. The great Liverpool sides of the 70s & 80s always bought one or two first team players to add competition & in order to keep on winning. That's what people are referring to. We didn't do that after we won the European Cup/league and last season the wheels came off to an extent. This is why people brought it up in 2019, 2020 & are bringing it up again now. If you don't exploit the situation while you're at the top, other teams will overtake you. Like Man City & Man Utd for example.

  14. I'll just come out and say it, family as a concept is overrated. It just is. Hang out with the people you like and who are nice to you. If that isn't your family, dont hang out with them just because they're your family. #stacksadvice.

  18. Salah is our Aguero in terms of goals return and had just come off back of his 2nd best of his 4 seasons for us on the goal scoring front. In my view we should 100% keep him and continue to build an attack around him. I'd like to see him stay with us in way Aguero stayed with the cheats.

  19. There is something IMO not 'right' about our finances....something that we are doing strategically financially that just does not feel right to me. Whether it is wages/bonuses or running costs or how much we actually get from commercial deals etc i don't know but for me something is off. We have one of the biggest turnovers in the world....we have a huge worldwide fan base, we fill our ground which is a big one every week....we have a big list of commercial partners, and reportedly the key main deals are very lucrative (amongst best in PL) ..our % of turnover spent on wages is reported to be about average for the PL. We have been very succesful in recent times - picking up lots of money from our successes in Europe and the PL - i think in the 97 pts season we topped the table for money earned when all the tv and prize money was added up....we are never off the telly really so must be getting the maximum share of that revenue stream from domestic and european sources. Yet all that said we don't seem to be in an obviously very strong financial position at all really - and the pleading poverty thing that seems to be the narrative that follows us around just does not for me seem to feel right. I am not saying there is anything dodgy going on, and it is clear as a club we have made improvements to things like finally adding a few thousand to the capacity, growing revenue streams commercially....but it does just niggle away that somehow we don't seem to be outwardly any wealthier from it/have the financial clout we might. Is it a case of costs have not been controlled enough...are we not very clever with our financial strategy? Or is it more that things were much worse than we realised before and the reset and subsequent rebuild of club has had to be slow and steady and we are building a sound base from which to kick on from and become more powerful financially? I am no financial expert (as this post clearly shows) but as i say it just does not feel right to me....i realise Covid has hit everybody and our timing is lousy really, finally scaling the mountain when the world is on lockdown and the arse falling out of everything across so many economies etc....the losses for clubs are clearly substantial, but surely manageable? Covid and its impact is an equal bastard to all clubs of course too (the cheats and the clubs with sugar daddys aside i suppose) I don't know maybe overthinking it - but as i say i just feel we should be stronger financially and certainly for me more ambitious....maybe that is it actually, maybe what it is is that i feel we are too risk averse?

  26. Is this all because his mum left him some money? You’ve got two choices really, either ignore her as Kurtz said, or just tell her to shut the fuck up. Actually, there is a third way. Find some charity event her child has done, then get your son to do the same and fundraise on here so that he smashes her kid’s effort out of the ball park (a la Champ’s son).

  28. I have a strong idea of how this will be received here, but I present my findings in the interests of science. Joro Vegan Eatery, Birkenhead (takeaway). £6.50 Well, look. I enjoyed this. The beans, hash brown and tomato were exactly what you'd expect. The sausages were nice, similar to the Linda McCartney ones. The toast was buttered on the other side (well, not butter, obviously). The spinach/onion/mushroom mix was unusual but fine, and it all tasted good when I stuck it on the toast with everything else. The stuff in the pot is hummus, which has no business being on a breakfast.

  32. We may have still won everything. In the same way we may have not with Guardiola. I don't see how you can make a convincing argument either way. Koulibaly has won fuck all, and plays for a mid table Italian outfit at 30. He may or may not have had the impact VVD had. We could have certainly bought him for less than 75mil and 6 months earlier than VVD. The fact we chose not to may be in part to Klopp's belief that he wouldn't have had the same impact. My point is, that in order to win trophies (plural) consistently, you need the right manager, with the right system for the players at the club, with more right signings than wrong ones, and with at least 3 or 4 top players at the top of their game through the spine of the team. We didn't have all that last season. With Klopp still as manager. And we failed to even challenge for trophies. When we did have all that, we won #6 and #19.

Personally I think everyone should get the vaccine (nobody should be forced too) but that’s just me. It’s the people that lie that are the problem.

  38. Why is there no ‘open discussion’ in areas like structural engineering or aeronautics? “That plane is far too conventional for me, I’m going to fly in this one designed by a bloke with an adjacent degree from an on-line university” “I’m sick of experts telling me skyscrapers need foundations. I’m buying a top floor apartment in this one made of Lego and evostick”

  41. God, they're such dickheads.

  42. Ugh, this argument is SO tiresome. It always comes down to this: there are two types of successful owners. One, those who spend ill-gotten gains (oil money, usually) on buying up all the best players in the world. We all agree that these are unfair and against the spirit of the game, but it is what it is. Two, those who work to develop the club's commercial power and then spend what the club makes. Maybe invest a bit more than that as the club appreciates, but mostly just work to develop good systems to buy better than your opponents do and reap the rewards. Then, of course, there's a bunch of mediocre and bad owners who are on a spectrum from Hicks & Gillett (make as much money as the club can give me, don't care about the wins/losses) to sort of OK, but we won't discuss these as no one would want an owner like them. We have this argument over and over. "Why don't FSG spend more?" but at the same time, the exact people who say that are also posting "it's a shame what Dubai is doing over at City, ruining the game and FFP with their billions they've made off oppressing slaves." FSG are literally probably the best owners in the second category in the world. They've hired the best manager in the world, built the best recruitment department in the world, and we're actually managing to compete with City and United despite having a much smaller budget. I would suggest that if you would prefer owners in the first category who will sugar-daddy the club to trophies galore, that you don't understand the club at all, but honestly, I'm tired of it. Anyone is welcome to their opinion, but we have what we have, and that's why a pandemic affects our ability to spend more than it does for City or Chelsea or PSG.

  44. We’ve won the big two and the league cup. I’d have liked to see us kick on after winning the big two, invest from a position of strength. I’d like to continue winning trophies rather than just finishing top 4. But our owners wanted to spend as little as possible and are now leaking that wages are ‘spiralling out of control’ because they had to pay the incentive contracts they insist on.

  46. I think we should deffo keep him. Can't honestly think of a game when he let us down and if klopp had played him more times instead of trying to shoehorn Firmino and Henderson in then we would have got top four way before the final game Matip can't be trusted to play more than one game a month, this new kid may take time to settle and VVD and Gomez are coming back from serious injuries which usually means you pick up niggling ones through the season So I think he will get game time and plenty of it
