  3. I had a few of these style try-ons last summer. Always follow the same template. Matched them on one of the apps, asked me to take it to what’s app immediately, started issuing demands there and then that I delete my app account and form a serious relationship with them. Oddly, I wasn’t convinced, and decided to have a bit of fun with it. Anyway, this is the sort of thing which eventuated, until ‘she’ started getting very annoyed. Really helped pass the tedium of shielding alone if I’m honest, just hoping the Albanian mafia can’t use GPS to trace my locati...

  4. Fair play to all you guys running on the treadmill. I just can't do it. 10 minutes feels like an hour. I got myself fitter during the lockdown than I've been at any stage in the last 8 years. I dropped over two stone. I'm doing 3 home workouts a week, along with running 2 or 3 days a week. I've gotten my 5k time down to 23:30 and my 10k time just under 49 mins. Running alone got me fit, but I've gotten a lot fitter since I've added the workouts. I do a bit of everything, HIIT, cardio, weights, Kettlebells. Hopefully with the weather picking up, I can add in a cycle at the weekends too. Great idea for a thread this. Brilliant to read about everyones progress.

  8. Glad that's helped a few people. I just stumbled across it earlier trying to find some info for my Dad as he was told by his GP he'd need to wait a bit longer. Not sure why it isn't publicised.

  9. Well I have to agree with all the posts on this thread, and I have to say that after 60 years of supporting the lads and watching top class football I have now given up on it. I watched the European cup game last week and really enjoyed it, good football ran by competent officials. I have finished with the premier league, full of 6 foot twelve one footed wonders, and totally incompetent referees who seem to think that they are the stars of the show. Managers who delight in killing the game with so called pundits who support them. I feel sorry for Jurgen, a good man and a sportsman, who thought that others in the league believed in the same values. You don’t stay at the top of the English league by being a sportsman, you do it by being a cheat (Ferguson and others ), it’s football by numbers now, no individual skill, no characters, just pass the ball to death until you lose it, with eleven defenders in their own penalty box it’s a job to know what to do, but I know that it’s shit. I started turning the tv on a minute before kick off because I couldn’t stand the sky soap opera. Then watching it with the sound off because of the relentless garbage coming out and it was only then with no sound, atmosphere or anything that I could see how bad this English league is. Best league in the world my ass, and they can stick it

  10. I sometimes wonder what planet people are on when they say things like "doesn't pass the eye test" about Thiago. I've lost count of the amount of times he's drawn in an opponent, passed the ball off and moved for the return, only to never get it back, because whoever he's passed it to has turned the wrong way, taken four touches and passed it back to the defence. (Wijnaldum mainly, but Jones does this a lot too.) Been plenty of times he's threaded a ball through the lines into a team mate who's immediately fucking lost it as well. (Firmino does this at least three times a game.) If you thought he was going to come in and be peak Gerrard and Xavi rolled into one, then yeah, I can see why you'd be disappointed.

  12. And as economic policies drifted to the right, the divide became more about culture, religion, etc. It was a much easier sell from newspapers. When polled, the population has economic views to the left of the government. However, if you've spent decades telling them to prioritise being a "top brit" it isn't surprising when they do at the ballot box. Patriotism needs to be wrestled back from the right, but it's not going to happen by just mirroring them. People won't buy it.

  13. Nope. It's been too long now. The ideal world would be we get players and form back in time to win the CL and then parade both. But assuming we're still too shit to win the CL, then the parade is parked. I'm just delighted that we managed to play the vast majority of last season with crowds. The late goal to seal the Man Utd win and the crowd signing "We're gonna win the league" was THE moment for me. Imagine that same game now with no fans? No atmosphere and the players off the pitch immediately after the final whistle to a few half-hearted high fives? Shite. I'd obviously rather win the league than not this season, but it's a hollow, dull, shite, season that everyone will just want to forget as quickly as possible. Get everyone back playing, fans in the stands, and win the league next year and have the mother of all parades after.

  14. Jesus, just beenreading a few comments on the Echo. Lots of blues have crawled out from under their stones, havent they? You'd think from the way they are crawing, they'd just won the title or the cl, not just won their first game at Anfield in 20 years. If Liverpool had gone to their shithole and just won for the first time in 20 years, Id be keeping my head down out of embarassment of having such a record. Not the blues though, they have to go out and shout it from the roof top. 'Hey world, we hadnt won there for 20 years but we finally did.'

  15. That's a fair point in itself, but then you'd have to ask if he would've given a different answer had he been asked about legalisation, and, looking at what he says here, I really don't think he would have, and for the reason I gave above - that he thinks it's not what the base he's looking to secure want to hear. It was telling, for example, that, even though he was asked about 'cannabis', he responded by talking about 'drugs', which obviously includes things like heroin and coke, and conjures up all sorts of images in Daily Mail readers heads. A bit of a cunts trick in my view, as someone who thinks there's a world of difference between sucking on a spliff and sucking on a crack pipe. Hopefully someone will ask him specifically about legalisation, noting the argument that crime is associated with its current legal status, and see his response. I fear it would be the same vague 'I've seen the harm it can do' waffle, and reference to 'drugs'.

  16. My Mrs had her jab a couple of weeks ago and as soon as she read she may get a sore arm and feel sick for a few days then hey presto, instant symptoms. Obviously I offered zero sympathy and told her she might as well go straight to bed. I couldn’t be arsed listening to her and there was a good film on I wanted to watch. I got mine on Sunday and my arms still in pain this morning and I feel grim and my Mrs keeps asking if everythings ok with a smart arse smile on her face. There’s no way I can show weakness, so I’m gonna cause a minor argument and take myself to the spare bed for the day. Let her be the petty one.

  21. Labour under John Smith were already popular and would more than likely have won the 1997 election anyway. Blair is never painted as a failure - how could he be? As you say, his Labour party won 3 elections. What annoys me is the suggestion that the public reject left wing policies. In blind tests during the 2007 elections (I believe it was) the public were overwhelmingly in favour of Labour's manifesto. It was only when they were told it was anything to do with Corbyn that they had second thoughts. And there's the thing. The public reject the left, not because they are inherently right wing, they do it because they are told to by the shitty papers they read, or increasingly, the coverage the left get on the likes of the bbc. So we're stuck with a choice between right wing and (because apparently it makes you 'electable' and 'a proper opposition') not quite so right wing - throwing traditional Labour voters a bone now and then with Surestart or the minimum wage, but mostly keeping vested interests happy with privatisation, tuition fees, academisation, and deregulation. I'd still vote for the latter, but its a shitty choice.

  25. I follow the guy who wrote a book called Chaos Monkeys about the early days of Facebook on Twitter. He made a good point about people (roughly around our age groups here on TLW for the most part) being from the analogue world, and the early adopters of the digital. So yeah, people can remember accessing information in a different way to how subsequent generations are accessing it. Websites used to want authentic, accurate information on their platforms until Web 2.0 came along and suddenly everyone can comment on how shit the takeaway was last night or how the restaurant forgot to sing Happy Birthday. Rambling a bit but I think libraries are awesome and so are book shops. Central Library in town is amazing.

  30. Rumours - I just don't get it. I know it is the ultimate AOR megaseller, remember reading about the marketing campaign pulling all the stops, "put one in every home", but there must have been a considerable initial attraction. Listening to it now, it's just so professional, polished, expertly written blandness. Bland on bland.

  31. 10 years of Blair saw voter turnout go down year on year. Perhaps people felt that a centrist Labour no longer represented them? In steps Farage banging on about 'elites' to fill the vacuum and bingo! Brexit!

  33. A very simple trick I use on a treadmill is I increase/decrease the pace every minute or two minutes. Whilst you are still clock watching, mentally because you reach an objective every two minutes it seems to break it up more. I also find running quicker helps as you are focused on pace and control as opposed to just clock watching.

  34. They'll parade themselves as heroes after all this, getting us through it blighty spirit. Ignoring the bad decisions, the cronyism the blatent theft of public money, breaking of rules, essentially ending a stage of lockdown to protect a government advisor who got to not only keep his job at the time but give his own personal press conference. Bastards all of them.

  41. When I was in sixth form I had a gigantic crush on this girl called Marie. But she had an older boyfriend (bigger boys!) and rebuffed me. She was always flirtatious enough to keep me keen though. As they often are. Anyway, we were at a college night at the nightclub in Shrewsbury and it was right at the time Britney topped the charts with Baby One More Time. Her and her mates came in the school girl outfit. Shawing! We were all dancing on one of the podiums and she puts her arms on my shoulders and goes in for what I believed for a fleeting second to be a kiss. Instead she goes to my right ear and utters... "When Britney comes on, will you get down off the podium so we can all dance..." And I did.
