I’ve said this before so many times on here. So people are depressed, suicides are up, people are not getting NHS referrals, irreversible damage is being done to pupils education etc... and all of that is given as reasons to lift lockdown measures. It’s a compelling argument. However, if cases do spike again, we get a second wave or however you want to say it, what do you think will happen with all those things? Are people going to be getting cancer referrals if the NHS is overwhelmed? Do you think depression and suicides will go up or down if people are dropping like flies? Pupils more or less likely to get the education they need with the school closures extended? Let’s not pretend this is anything other than a very high stakes gamble. If we get a second spike that coincides with the winter and flu season we will be absolutely fucked. They won’t lockdown and furlough people again so what is the alternative? They should have kept the lockdown until the end of June/middle of July and drove cases right down and got an extensive track and trace system up and running in time for relaxing it. Instead, they’ve half arsed the whole thing, lost the public trust with Cummings, and in my opinion gambled that they can keep cases around the level they are now so we’ll still get plenty of deaths and infections but it won’t overwhelm the NHS. It’s also obvious they’re not going to protect the vulnerable like they should be with allowing the shielded to leave their homes earlier than they said and not releasing the full BAME report. We’re also seeing the scientists sidelined at the press conferences because they either won’t back what they want or they’ve given mild criticism like JVT and the imminent reduction of the 2m rule based on pressure from business lobby groups, right wing media and backbench Tories rather than on the scientific advice. I’d just be careful what you wish for because all the problems which are given as reasons for lifting lockdown (NHS referrals, Suicides, Schools etc...) are going to be massively amplified if this doesn’t work.

Here are a few preliminary design ideas for the main house. It's all quite modular in design for ease of construction. I like the idea of an open glass pavilion for entertainment, but a separate private wing for bed / office. It's a bit of a courtyard design with a secure boardwalk connecting the spaces (zombies / bears). I'll post plans later, maybe. I've done a lot of drawing....it's part of what I teach as well, so practice.

Obviously that's not conducive to those peoples' plans so it gets directed elsewhere. You had the same in Nazi germany. The Nazis had some appeal and then became a joke when things picked up for the man in the street, then when things nosedived they increased in popularity again, along with about a dozen or so other parties all fighting to harness the same big ball of anger. The Communists were their main rival but the Nazis used to club them with big sticks - it really can be that simple. Plus they had a lot of former soldiers and wealthy backers behind them, all the apparatus of the elite, with non favourable media types being denounced and eventually ending up in camps. Corbyn had started to tap into that rage from a left point of view but it was quickly overrun due to the fact most of the above have all the money and have all the means of mass communication. The right operate like Tony Soprano. They may not be amazingly intelligent, but they instinctively know how to make people do what they want, either by making them an accomplice or by scaring them. The left deals in hope, but it's intangible and requires some patience and imagination. It's our fault for being stupid. Prince Andrew, Boris Johnson, Boris Johnson's Dad, George Osborne, David Cameron. These people see themselves as our betters and we take it again and again. Corupition is increasingly out in the open - we get angry - but the people who caused the anger seem to be the only ones able or willing to harness it. We're like a dog that chews its own balls off.

Howie asked for an update, but not too much real activity happening on our property. I was there in early April for a surprise early season test of extreme isolation / social distancing. I stayed in one of the cabins of my friends lodge 'next door'. It was only for five days, but I absolutely loved not seeing a single person at all. Turn the lights off at night and not a light or sound anywhere. Hiked our property every day (not much snow left). It was really good for getting the lay of the land, with all the undergrowth gone. I installed a trail camera along a well-worn path with hopes of spotting bear/moose/deer/elephants. Left it for four days and saw nothing. Lazy wildlife. Had a duck waddle up to my cabin from the lake as I was sitting on the porch having a beer and a puff. He came by daily and we'd have a good chat and some bits of bread. Is it wrong that I am slightly amused by the cases of covid in NZ? All these smug Facebook posts pretending to understand politics in New Zealand and lauding the Prime minister because she took her baby into parliament and "solved" the corona virus problem. While I'm sure they've managed it infinitely better than the staggering dribblechins here, the countries are not comparable in terms of population and proximity to large populous areas. Yeah, I piled on the weight over the first 6 weeks of lockdown, and I’d already put on too much weight as it was. So I gave up the booze almost 5 weeks ago and have been eating healthily and doing sporadic exercise (hard to do when you’ve a 2 and a 1 year old at home) and have so far lost 31lbs. Another stone and a half and I’ll be fighting fit again.

I'm going to use myfitness pal and count calories. Once you get into the habit of it, it becomes easier but it's getting over the cravings early doors that's the hard part.

Latest guest cottage design (I've got a few). Idea is to build this first, learn a lot of lessons about living off-grid before committing to the main house. Then you have a spare cottage for guests. Logistics of placing the two houses close enough to share services (septic/road access/solar/water) without being too close. Location of guest cottage and main house would be along the ridge at the top of the existing trail. I don't want to bulldoze the forest for any new roads. From the top of the trail you would see the guest cottage to your right, and would follow a trail for a few minutes to get to the main house (I'll add a site plan). Extra mark for anyone (other than Karl and Cochyn) who can recognize the design reference.

I think I kind of stopped believing the figures when they added past deaths onto the new lower figures purely to keep the number below a 1000 when it was at its worst. Obviously they say that wasn't the reason and obviously I think they're lying fucks.
