  1. Nearly a year sober as I’m in recovery. The old demons have been swirling around a bit more due to the current situation though. Perfectly normal I suppose. I’m a nurse as well so the thought of dealing with work in the current climate and relapsing and going in hungover etc doesn’t bear thinking about. If I can get through this without having a bevvy I’ll look back on this period and be proud of myself.

  3. It's a learning curve for teachers, too, which explains certain unreasonable expectations. From them. But also on them. A lot of pressure is being placed on teachers by management, who are surveilling them online and desperate to see them look productive. Everybody needs to get a grip here. Most schoolwork is just intended to fill the school day when parents farm out their kids to glorified babysitting facilities. It doesn't need to come home. And if it does, ignore it and do something more valuable (talk to your kids, have them read books they enjoy or documentaries they find interesting, introduce them to the wireless, get them to build or fix something, etc). If the teachers or management hassle you, have a stern word. If that doesn't work, plead unspecified illness. This is an incredible opportunity for worthwhile learning. Don't waste it on school or faux homeschooling. In my opinion...

  9. Bought some spaghetti from Aldi the other day, everything on the packet was in Italian, German, Russian and Arabic. We had spaghetti for our tea before and she shouts me in whilst cooking it asking me if I think its ready. She said she didnt know how long to cook it for as all the instructions were in Italian. I just said it looked ready. Putting the packet in the bin before and there was a picture on the front of a pan with steam coming out the top and a large 7 in a circle over it. With "Tempo do cottura 7 minuti" next to it. You dont have to be a brain surgeon to work it out

  10. I'm working from home and the kids are also at home whilst she has to go to work, albeit part time. This week our office has had to furlough a number of staff as things have got a bit quieter I'm (luckily?), still on full wage but picking up a bit of slack for colleagues who are not in. My hours are 8am-4pm. Her this morning before she left for work. Her: you know Kate from work? Me: not personally Her: well, her husband is also working from home. Me: and? Her: well whilst he's working at home he's done laundry, ironed and put away clothes, fed the kids and put away all dishes, done Joe Wicks exercises and school work with their kids and even started wallpapering one of their rooms. What have you done whilst I'm out? Me: worked from home, he obviously isn't or at least not his full hours. Her: maybe he has better time management. Me: no love, he's taking the piss whilst getting paid.

  13. Because it will just be a modified hairdryer with an LCD display promoting the Dyson product range. Our government is becoming not unsurprisingly more slippery and evasive by the day as they try to field difficult questions. They just can't stop themselves.

  14. I’ve enjoyed home schooling Turdsette so far, it’s been fun. What isn’t fun is the hour or so afterwards of being in the same house as she spends some time video calling one of her school friends. JUST FUCKING SHUT UP.

  18. I swing wildly from hating it to loving it. IT is a problem as I can't access any work stuff and after two weeks I've only just got my emails. Some of my colleagues arent helping either, drama queen pricks. I'm the only one in my team with kids (2 and 6) so I'm trying to work while getting hassled by/trying to interact with them. Everyone else is set up at home in peace with no distractions (apart from pornhub and Netflix) which must be fucking great but my place is like a mad house. And I know some of them.have got fuck all.work to do while Im flat out. Honestly last week my mobile phone didn't stop going for calls, texts and emails I thought I was going mad and just wanted to flush it down the toilet to escape. I've had to change the ring tone it was setting me on edge! Same this week really since now it's all video calls which are fucking shit. Like on Monday we had to do a short notice team video meeting at 12 but I was putting the two year old down for a nap - who the fuck has meetings at 12 anyway? It just showed that they have no idea what a day is like when you have kids and you're all locked up in the house all day. I also look after our websites and social media so have been getting hammered (by work, not booze) for a week. At some points it's really got me down (like I'd rather just be in the office) but other times I realise I've got to look on the bright side - I get to see my kids all day and take them the park in the afternoon for an hour - when else would this happen? Plus millions of people are in well worse situations than me so I shouldn't moan - at least I'm getting paid etc. So, I keep trying to not let the bad stuff get me down and keep a level head. Ive also been going for late night walks which is a bit weird but I've really enjoyed them as there is virtually no one around. Missing the gym though - really wish I'd been on the ball and bought some weights and a rowing machine. To answer the OP - not really. Been drinking a shit load of tea and coffee though.

  19. I said in the GE thread after the result that it would take something catastrophic to get the Tories out. I don't think this has reached a catastrophic stage. This pandemic couldn't have happened at a better time for them. They're a few months into a five year term. It's a pity it couldn't have happened after they'd been in power for three or four years. By the time the next GE come around, all the focus will be on the next hatchet job they're going to do on Labour.

  20. The population is so dumbed down they will just take their chances. Look at the daily farcical press thingy, they just dodge the questions and say "get through it together". All these cunts need is a three or four word slogan and the thick idiots out there who vote for them are like putty in their hand. They absolutely trounced Labour using three words, "get Brexit done". They're fucking Teflon and they know it.

  21. There is loads for them to gain economically, old people are one of the biggest drains on the country's finances & these cunts are going to be in power for a good while yet.

  22. Don't know about anyone else, but I'm finding WFH really fucking stressful. Tech strains means everything's taking twice as long to do but I have the same deadlines. Been cutting down my boozing since Christmas but this week's been an absolute cunt. Hence hitting the spirits late at night after yet another tough day. Went out on my bike today. Felt great, and I'm gonna keep doing it. I really can't be doing with the guilt-depression hangovers. On the plus side, I found a bottle of Havana Club Especial I forgot I had. It's fucking lovely.

  26. Hardly touched a drop. Using this whole thing to have a bit of a reset of my life and drink is one of the evils I need to drastically cut back on. Ive put on about half a stone, my appetite is through the roof, I've been exercising and most importantly sleeping really well. Had a few on Saturday and felt rough as shit on Sunday. Im not sure the anxiety we all feel is good for my hangovers, they are really bad and I just feel guilty and depressed on them. That said, not a day has gone by that I've not heard from a mate or a few that are drinking and just wanted to get hammered for the sake of it.

  27. Not having the recency bias at all, total bollocks. Look at both the UK and US sitcom polls, of the 4 finalists only one is from this century. Most of the entrants stopped making episodes 10-20 years ago. Nostalgia bias is far more likely and before anyone moans I'm guilty of it too

  28. Here in the faroe islanda about 8% of the population has been tested, the government started the shut down the same time as denmark did and we are seeing huge improvement now, it has done wonders the huge scale of testing and fast test results to get people into quarantine right away and stopping the spread.

  38. I tested positive for the virus but am out of hospital now. Just feel light-headed as fuck due to the blood thinners. There wasn't many young people in hospital with the virus, I was only in there due to the blood clots in my lungs. The 'younger' people tended to be fat, conversely I saw very old people with the virus that appeared to be dealing with it okay, their main issues were the complete inability to care for themselves such as incontinence, feeding, etc but that's probably their general level of independence. Fortunately I did not get close to the ICU, so can't comment on the demographic in there. There appeared to be plenty PPE available for staff and enough beds but this is just the tip of the iceberg.

  40. If they are going to finish the season they should just let the two teams on 28 games play then everyone has played over 75 per cent. Was bored the other day looking at old European Cup games and saw that a lot of games were abandoned after crowd trouble. The teams leading at the time of the abandonment were awarded the game by a bog standard 3-0 and allowed to progress even if the game wasn't over halfway through. Apart from the season world war 2 started which was abandoned after 3 games I dont recall reading about any other seasons being voided. That season couldn't have been played in any way shape or form but there is the possibility to restart this one. So I wonder what the sudden rush is for it to happen now?. Anything to do with us being miles ahead at the top?

  41. The same ones who are currently claiming football does not matter given what is going on (mostly to justify them wanting season voided to spite us) but watch it REALLY matter when they mock us mercilessly if and when it is voided.
