  1. At a children's hospital just outside Melbourne for one of my twin boys who has been in here getting treatment for leukemia for 7 months as of yesterday. He's had a few bumps along the way, but until this point he's doing very well. The reds having the brilliant season they are having has made it a little easier to get through some long weeks in here, yet conversely, reality has been there to snap me out of a mood following a bad result. Yin and yang. I'd have loved to get to the LFC supporters pub in the city which will be absolutely heaving early Sunday morning, but the situation doesn't really allow it! As it turns out, a charity has organized for my near 4yo lad to accompany the Aussie Rules players onto the MCG as a mascot on Sunday afternoon. It's such a great opportunity for him, so perhaps not being half bladdered after the CL final will be a good thing this time. With the subscription shite for footy in this country meaning no free-to-air coverage of the final for the first time in years, I need to work out where I can hook up my newly-acquired Google Chrome (I've got a subscription to only watch on my phone) to a tv in the share house we're living in for the duration of his treatment. And to @Jarvinja Ilnow, that's so fucking good to hear mate. All the best to you in your recovery. Come on reds, fucking do this.

  2. I read your first line and thought you were doing a Gilbert and Sullivan parody. I'm very well read with regard to matters psychological, And Everton's obsessions resolutely pathological, While tempting to refer to them in language scatological, I pity them, their glories being largely mythological

  3. Went really well. Dads best mate did the eulogy they'd known each other 65 years, he introduced my mum and dad to each other and was their best man.Good turnout for him as well. Had a few after which he would have wanted.

  8. Change of plan for me; I'm now going to the Whitworth in Phibsborough. My record of watching sport in there: - Beating Watford 5 -0 - Ireland winning the Grand Slam in Twickenham (both on the same day) - Ireland beating the All Blacks at home for the first time. - The Origi goal derby All hail the power of the Whitworth.

  27. I’m hoping Hendo does a Sarri. He scores a hat-trick as we cruise to victory, then when he lifts the trophy shouts “Liverpool are magic, Stringvest is tragic and so is Turdseye the scrawny little gobshite! Shit that didn’t rhyme.”

  28. Don’t understand mean spiritedness towards Sturridge. He’s a world class talent with a body that lets him down. He’s never put a foot wrong for Liverpool and was incredible in 13/14. Yes, it’s right he’s going, but don’t see that he deserves shit. As for Albert The Moron, despite my previous ire towards him and early call on his ineptitude, I wish him well too. Yes he was risible in that Europa final (and on other occasions too) but he’s accepted his fate since with dignity (or whatever passes for dignity inside the mind of someone with a massive tattoo of a besuited chimp wearing headphones and holding a gun). Neither should be here next season, but I don’t wish them ill.

  29. Israel to auction prefab classrooms donated by EU to Palestinians Calls for Israeli authorities to rebuild West Bank structures confiscated by military Oliver Holmes in Jerusalem Fri 31 May 2019 06.00 BST Shares 1,335 Prefabricated classrooms, funded by EU aid in Ibziq, in the northern West Bank, were dismantled and confiscated by Israeli authorities. Photograph: Aref Daraghmeh, B’Tselem Israel’s defence ministry plans to hold an auction next week to sell two prefabricated classrooms that were donated to Palestinian schoolchildren by the EU. The Civil Administration, the body tasked with running the occupation, tore down and confiscated the classrooms last October. They had been intended for 49 students, in grades one to six, in Ibziq, in the northern occupied West Bank. An advertisement published in the Israeli newspaper Maariv said the sale would take place at Civil Administration offices in the West Bank. After the classrooms were dismantled, the EU mission to Jerusalem and Ramallah condemned Israeli authorities and called on them to rebuild the structures in the same place “without delay”. FacebookTwitterPinterest The classrooms were meant for 49 children in grades one to six. Photograph: Aref Daraghmeh, B’Tselem “Every child has the right to access education and states have an obligation to protect, respect and fulfil this right, by ensuring that schools are inviolable safe spaces for children,” it said at the time. “[T]he EU calls upon the Israeli authorities to halt demolitions and confiscations of Palestinian houses and property, in accordance with its obligations as an occupying power under international humanitarian law.” A list of auction items, seen by the Guardian, showed dates, item numbers, locations and descriptions that matched the confiscated classroom structures. The sale also appeared to include material confiscated from Palestinians and Israeli settlers who built without authorisation. Asked to comment on Thursday afternoon, the Civil Administration said it needed more time to respond. Palestinians have limited autonomy in parts of the West Bank, mostly urban areas, but Israel maintains full control of most of the territory and demolishes homes and buildings it says were built without permission. More than 400,000 Israelis have moved into the West Bank, building settlements on land seized from Palestinians. The prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has pledged to annex those settlements. A GREAT BUNCH OF LADS

  30. Most people would agree. The difference comes in how you define "extremist". We live in a country in which we are routinely told that an extremist is someone who espouses progressive taxation and nationalisation of utilities and public services (to a degree that appeals to the Tory burghers of Guildford), peace and justice in Israel/Palestine and a foreign policy that isn't "bomb first, think later".

  31. I use it as a kind of “best of the Internet for Paul”. So for music, The Reds, humour and politics, I get loads of stuff that comes to me rather have to go looking for it. I also like it for the occasional venting opportunity. The fact that virtually no-one is listening is neither here nor there.

  37. The vast, vast majority of homeless people/people who rough sleep won’t harangue anyone. A polite “I don’t have any change sorry mate, take care of yourself” will be met with a thank you. Even if you don’t want to give any money just giving a few minutes of your time and talking to the person can be the highlight of their day and a massive positive.

  38. Im not watching it. I havent missed a European Cup final since 1968 although I must admit, I went out and played on my scooter in the back yard when manchester united scored their first in the 68 final. Number 1 son is getting married that day and the bride to be was in bits when she found out the game will be played on the same day. Yeah, we can debate the timings and arrangements to watch it etc but I love my son so, on 1 June he and his wedding day comes first. No doubt other guests will bring phones but I dont want to know the score and will watch a replay if we win. I'll be playing the game in my head though!

  42. It's going to be a Sunday 7am kick off for me here in Aotearoa. I'll be watching it on the Sky Fan Pass App on my iPhone. I don't have Sky Sport, as I can't afford it, so I went all out on a $15 monthly subscription to Fan Pass for one device. I may be able to get to my Mum, but the iPhone is too small for her to see. She's 92 and partially blind. We've both been lucky enough in our lives to have been at Anfield for big games, and like me, she's just about a life long supporter. We'll be together, but I doubt she'll see much. However, the sense of the occasion won't be lost on her. She's up with the play and her memories of Shanks, Thompson, Hunt, St John, Smith, Lawrence etc are as vivid now as they were standing on the Anfield Road End through the sixties. Christ Almighty I'm crying right now, as I type this. Come on you Men in Red. Let's show the world who the greatest team was, is, and always will be.
