  1. They should do a Conspiracy version of We Didn’t Start The Fire. Clive Thomas, and Istanbul, Collina’s pockets full, UEFA, FA and Marc Clattenburg.. Kopites sacrificing kids, very high transfer bids, jealous of our imaginary ground, more conspiracies we’ve found. We would have won In Europe, but were always bitter and our team is shitter. We would have won in Europe, but the Redshite stopped us. We go on and on and on.....

  4. I think it's more unlikely that we are still top of the league against this man city team. They are incredible, the best team the premier league has ever seen (imo) Klopp isnt perfect and neither is this Liverpool side but i think it's important to realise what they are doing before we say it's all down to luck, bad management or poor play. We just don't give up, and that's what football is all about sometimes. A champions league final last year, Top of the league, going toe to toe with a financial powerhouse, still in the quarter finals of the UCL this season. The development of this squad is brilliant and that's down to the manager. Sure we could play better and Klopp could make better decisions but they are obviously feeling the pressure just like all the fans. Fair fuck's to them to keep pulling out results with the weight of expectation and hope they are carrying around from millions of supporters around the world. Not to mention their own desire and ambition to achieve something (especially since they've lost 3 finals in a row) "Heavy legged" Klopp said in his press conference. That's pure pressure, nothing to do with fitness. Klopp's tactics or substitutions won't really effect that at this stage. Maybe a little but not as much as you may think mate. They are doing brilliant and it doesn't matter how they play now, just dig in and grind through it and hope it goes our way. We aren't going to walk to our first title in 29 years by playing amazing football and blowing teams away for 38 games. The first one will always have to be won this way. I'm immensely proud of this side and our manager, i just hope they can win it for us and themselves, they deserve it.

  5. It all kicked off when Pickford refused to give the barmaid a bit of extra money when paying for his drink. It's not the first time this season that he's had a bit of bother for not properly tipping over the bar...

  6. Great report, as always. My problem with Henderson wasn't the foul, it was the way he turned his back afterwards and trotted away like some kind of labrador. He absolutely has to stand up and stop the quick free kick.

  7. A bit unfair on Corbyn , blaming him for for being personally disliked when he has been vilified and lied about daily in 90% of the tv and written media. The one time he was legally given a level playing field to explain his thoughts and views he performed excellently and came across as almost avuncular in the run up to the last election. Like some other recent posters I do not see him as being as important as the policies of the Labour party and would ideally like to see a younger left of centre candidate emerge , but I would always vote for a guy who gets up every morning wanting to make the lives of the British people better, rather than a person who wakes up every morning worrying about how they can look after their own party and friends at the expense of the vast majority of those British people.

  9. I think you've rather broadened what you were replying to. I don't think Corbyn is remotely close to being "great". I also, personally, don't really care that much who the leader is as long as they're a vehicle for democratic socialist policies. Although, I realise it's important for other people. And getting their votes. But anyone who thinks he'll "bankrupt the country" has been swallowing bullshit from the press. They're the sort of people who believe the Tories are better with the economy. A safe pair of hands. That austerity was necessary rather than a political choice. That we have to "live within our means". That debt and deficits can only be reduced by cuts. They tend to believe the economics of one person works exactly the same way as a that of a country. And they believe all of this because unless they go out of their way to learn about economics it's the only message they'll read in our papers and see on telly.

  11. Report by Dave Usher The more this kind of thing happens, the more you have to wonder if maybe this time it really is meant to be. I’m not at that point yet, but you only need to take a little look at what Evertonians and Man City fans are posting on their forums to know that there are plenty out there who think our name is on this trophy now. If the shoe was on the other foot and the team we didn’t want to see win the league kept winning games due to inexplicable goalkeeping mistakes, I’d probably feel the same. Because it’s our team benefitting from those goalkeeping brainfarts, all I can think of is that perhaps this is just some cruel hoax to allow us to start believing, and when that happens Alisson will throw one into his own net in the last minute of the Wolves game to cost us the league on the final day. Ridiculous I know, but the scars from Stevie’s slip in 2014 run deep. This is beginning to feel like earlier in the season when City had a narrow lead and we were desperately hanging on, by hook or by crook. We never let them get away from us and it was doing their head in, seeing us somehow grind out results while they were casually just blowing everybody away. We stuck with them and eventually when they finally fucked up, we overtook them. Whether that happens again time will tell, but that freak late own goal from Spurs will have seriously rocked City. It’s human nature. Imagine if the roles were reversed and we saw City winning like that? It definitely has an impact. Then there’s the effect it will have on our lads. They’ll be buzzing all week now and probably can’t wait to get out there against Southampton on Friday night. Momentum is huge. We lost it with those draws with West Ham and Leicester and never really got it back. We had more draws with Everton and United, and so nearly had another here. Dropping two points to Spurs wouldn’t have ended our title hopes but does anyone really think we’d have been able to come back from it? I don’t. That’s not to say that City won’t drop points. They might. But if we’d let them go three points clear (essentially four points in reality) I don’t think we’d have recovered from it. Now it’s different. Maybe we can afford to draw one or even two somewhere down the line, but it will all depend on how City cope with the hectic schedule they have this month. If we’d given them some breathing room it would have been easier for them. The way I see it, we’ve got to win the next two to really crank up the pressure on them and maybe eventually the volume of fixtures they have will take it’s toll. If that happens, maybe we won’t have to win every game, but as it stands right now you have to assume that we will need to be pretty much perfect. The way we’re playing makes that seem unlikely, but the mark of a great team is winning on those days when it looks like you won’t. We didn’t deserve to beat Spurs on the balance of play, but contrary to some of the crap I’ve heard, we didn’t deserve to lose either. It was a close game between two evenly matched sides. It’s been like that virtually every time we’ve played each other under these two managers. We had the better of the first half and deservedly led, they had the better of the second and deservedly equalised. After that, it could have gone either way but by the end it was us pushing hardest for the winner. Any team that wins a title has games like this they look back on. Unfortunately for us City have had some too. Not as many as us, and certainly not as many late ones as us. But it’s a bit rich listening to their fans complaining about our “luck” when they’ve had some of the most egregious decisions in the history of football go their way this season. 15. What VVD did was very similar to what Didi Hamann was good at, albeit further up the field. Always positioning himself in the area of maximum inconvenience for the opposing player looking for an angle to make a pass, or a run onto a pass. Geometric genius.

  25. I still haven’t seen anyone properly describe why Big Virg was so good in that situation. I think you’re explanation comes close to nailing it. For me the reason why he was so good is because he COMPLETELY cut out the passing option. I’ve seen a few virgins talking about it being blown out of proportion and others saying it was shit because he let Sissoko shoot from such a close position. The terminator thing is spot on. He clearly assessed the situation and made his decision, quite early as well. People seem to think he did what a lot of other top defenders would do there. He didn’t. Virtually every single other defender in world football would have tried to minimise the chance of the pass while also closing the space to Sissoko. The problem with doing that is that you open up the passing lane. Even if it’s only 10 or 20% you can’t physically do both. Van Dijk cut off the passing lane 100% knowing it would give Sissoko the shot and he did it because he knew that was the best option available. To do that at the premier league level in such a high pressured game as this and with the score the way it was and the momentum in the game the way it was is quite frankly phenomenal. He knew the players he was dealing with, the distances and how to cut the pass out from already knowing where Son had been before he put his full concentration on Sissoko. The way he staggered his run a few times and faked coming to him made Sissoko think he could delay and wait for him to commit. I honestly don’t give a shit about what anyone says about bias. In the time I’ve been watching football since the early 90s the year and a bit he’s been with us no defender has ever played at the level he has in the premier league or Europe.

  28. The biggest problem is people expecting us to match man city with the squad we have. To win every game, to not have spells where a side like Spurs look dangerous. FFS, think back. When have we ever been that good? Problems with the midfield, no shit. Seriously lacks creativity like it has for some time and since Kieta has been dismal to date, there's nothing we can do about that until the summer. So here we are about to smash our record points total, favourites for another champions League semi too. If that's not good enough then well we'll just have to go again next season cause it's clear as fucking day that overall Klopp is getting more out of this squad than anyone ever could. Again I'm blaming the media. The same media that like to lick pochwhathisnames hoop.

  30. Love Jurgen to death. Even if we dont win anything with him, he has laid the foundations for whoever follows him much like Shankly did for Bob and I'll still love him. But, his late use of subs or lack of, does my head in. It was pretty clear to everyone in the ground that a change was needed around 65 minutes. Not only were Spurs gaining a foothold again but Gini was visibly running on fumes, Milner was not creating or breaking up anything. The game was crying out for Fabinho's introduction. Yet we had to wait 3 or 4 minutes after their equaliser for Fabinho to get on. And immediately we looked better.

  33. I read earlier that we used that midfield in the away games against Napoli, PSG, the two Manchester sides and Chelsea. Five big games, three losses and two draws. Three good footballers, but clearly it doesn't work when they're playing together. It wouldn't be as big an issue if The Ox wasn't injured and if Keita hadn't been such a huge disappointment. And what on earth's the story with Shaqiri?

  34. I didn't have a ticket yesterday and watched the game alone in my house. I actually think I learned something about myself and my defence mechanisms while watching it. Usually for big games I'm on edge and well invested in the game throughout but I wasn't yesterday and reasoned with myself during it that it was because City are almost certainly going to win the league anyway so it was inevitable that the point it was gone was going to come at some point (and of course it still might). Had we drawn I'd have been disappointed but almost relieved that a bigger disappointment was not likely to be waiting further down the road with the end being closer. When Firmino scored I celebrated but not too much at all but the winner was a different matter. I don't think I've ever celebrated a goal like that on my own. Shouting at the top of my voice and jumping around the room. I was probably not too different than I was in the Kop when Origi scored and I tore a load of skin off the back of my leg. This means so much and I think the only way to make it bearable is by pretending that it doesn't. If we win these next two then I don't think I'll be able to keep up any pretence as if we do that then I think we'll win it.

  35. Yeah, I agree with that. I don't really care who the leader is; the manifesto is more important. That said, as I always bleat on about, there's only one way that manifesto is getting implemented, and that's if the leader can sell it, the party, and themselves as a realistic and viable option. It's infuriating that it is like it is, but I gave up on idealism a long time ago. I'd settle for a little more... no Tory government. Yeah, that's exactly it. Though, as frustrating as those people are, I can't entirely blame them because it's not entirely their fault. Your average person is going about their daily life, trying to get through, trying to make it as painless as possible, trying to keep their families fed and clothed and maybe a crazy trip away once a year. The amount of time they have for the little fuckers in government isn't much, and even if it is then the source of information is telling them - convincing them - to vote against their own interests. It. Is. Fucked. I think improvement is gradual and starts with getting the Tories out and their alternatives in, no matter if that's Corbyn or Blair and Brown type. Step by step, playing whatever dirty game that needs to be played in the short term so that the medium and long term can be better. It's a shitty choice, but in my opinion it's the only viable option. We (on the left) are unlikely to win many votes by trying to 'be the better man'. Cynical and dirty, I know. So yeah, what you said.
