Most polls re: Brexit are now leaning towards remain over leave. I'd say it's a pretty poor showing if one of the explicitly pro-remain parties aren't gaining massively in the polls as we hurtle towards a potential no deal Brexit. And an even worse showing if said explicitly pro-remain party is up in the polls one week, then down another week. And even relegated to fourth place in one of the more recent polls.

Spin that how you want, but looked at in the above context, it's fairly woeful.

The latest polls aren't looking great for the Lib Dems. Around 3 to 4 points down in most of them. Swinson couldn't even muster a decent "new leader bounce."

Sarah Wollaston: Ex-Tory MP joins Lib Dems

Former Conservative MP Sarah Wollaston has joined the Liberal Democrats, the party has announced.

Dr Wollaston was one of three Tory MPs to quit the party in February and join the Independent Group for Change, which she then left in June.

She said she was delighted to now be joining a party making the case for the UK to "remain at the heart of Europe".

Lib Dem leader Jo Swinson said Dr Wollaston would bring "real expertise" to the party.

The pro-Remain MP joins ex-Labour MP Chuka Umunna in becoming the second former member of Independent Group for Change - previously known as Change UK - to join the Lib Dems.

The Totnes MP quit the Conservatives over the party's "disastrous handling of Brexit".

Can you please give Tom cunting Watson his membership card while you're at it.

I know his faction is hardly in the ascendancy, but Watson is absolutely tribal Labour. I don't know who'd be more horrified by your suggestion, me or him!

Have the Lib Dems really rejected working with Labour for a temp government then a second referendum with Remain on the ballot?

What’s the reasoning?

They’re opportunistic cunts that talk about caring but when it comes down to it they will side with the Tory counts rather than the country?

They think that in order to get the vote of no confidence over the line they will have to convince Tory MPs to vote for it.  Voting for Corbyn to lead the temp government would mean fewer are likely to do so.  They’d prefer an ‘independent ‘ to lead the temp government to make it less controversial.  They’ve suggested Clarke or Harman as they are both at the end of their careers and trusted.

Corbyn would remain as Leader of Labour, would fight the inevitable election so it’s hardly controversial.

Of course it’s highly controversial. There’s absolutely no democratic precedent for what they are suggesting.

It’s corbyn or no deal. That’s the choice

So it's an act of political blackmail, then.

It's almost like the initial proposal was proposed in the knowledge that it would be wholly unpalatable...

Is it more unpalatable than no deal? Would you prefer Ken Clarke to take over?

I'd be delighted if Ken Clarke guided a unity government to prevent No Deal. At least we could be relatively certain his intentions were honourable.

It doesn’t matter what you want. It’s corbyn or no deal
