Jon Flanagan - centre half

Do you think he'd be tall enough to play there? Bit of googling suggests he's 5"11. You don't see many centre halfs under 6"2 I'd say these days. But look at someone like Cannavaro. If you've got good positioning, you're strong and aggressive in the air, then why not.

Flanagan reminds me a bit of Steve Finnan, the kind of steady Eddie type. However the modern game seems to require very attacking full backs who want to bomb forward all the time. I wonder if Flanagan might end up as a centre half, either here or elsewhere.

Are you fucking nuts!? He doesnt have the build for a centre back. And I'd be surprised if he is 5 11. Wouldnt be the first time a player's height had been exaggerated by a club.

We seem to have been blessed with some great right backs over the years, a lot of the more recent ones have been mentioned already, but what about Marcus Babbel, he was another quality player.

Can't believe I forgot about Babbel. What a player he was during the treble season. Such a shame he was struck down by that illness.

It was a shame for both him and us that he got hit by that debilitating disease, but like you say, he really was a pleasure to watch that treble-winning year, lots of good memories.

I can't see it to be honest. I reckon he will be a useful player for somebody, just not us.

I'd say he's of a level equal to most of our academy graduates of the last 20 years like spearing, Guthrie, Steven Wright, Davey Thomson, Alan Navarro, Warnock, Mellor and a whole fuckload of others who have failed to make the grade here but have gone on to have good careers in the game.
