Saying the same thing over and over and over and over definitely makes it true.

"Liverpool are still a big club, Liverpool are still a big club, Liverpool are still a big club, Liverpool are still a big club, Liverpool are still a big club, Liverpool are still a big club, Liverpool are still a big club, Liverpool are still a big club, Liverpool are still a big club, Liverpool are still a big club, Liverpool are still a big club, Liverpool are still a big club, Liverpool are still a big club, Liverpool are still a big club, Liverpool are still a big club, Liverpool are still a big club..." Is it working yet??

This thread aged well lol. Champions of Europe.

That can be said to be down to appointing the right manager above anything else? And backing him and his staff's opinions rather than somebody way out of their depth? I'm not having a go at FSG,just playing Devil's Advocate.

Is this what we have to look forward to all summer, ancient threads where misgivings have been expressed (no matter how reasonable at the time) being bumped just to rub people's noses in it?

Not trying to rub his nose in it or anyone’s for that matter.

It's more than just hiring Klopp. They have been clever too, brave in doing that approach as well.

I didn't like the way they sacked Dalglish, but I'm a fan, he's a hero to me & the supporters.  Part of why we have had success now is because our owners are making decisions without using emotion.  It's exactly why United have big problems going forward.  They seem to think the club needs ex players who 'get the club' to be manager, Rio Ferdinand & Darren Fletcher linked to be director of football.

Our owners realised we couldn't spend like City.  Actually to be honest, no one should be able to spend like City, except United in that time if they wanted to comply with FFP.  Like backed what has been successful for them in the past by using analytics to gain an advantage.  That is why our recruitment has been ridiculously good.  In fact has a team ever been as success in the transfer market as we have the last 3 years.

They hired Ian Graham to be our Director of Research as they believed in his research & database he created. Graham has a doctorate in theoretical physics at Cambridge. It was Graham's analytical approach who recommended Klopp to the owners. He believed in his methods, even the poor season Klopp had at Dortmund where he got sacked, the analysis showed Dortmund were incredibly unlucky that season & it was a blip.

Let's remember John Henry himself became successful off creating an algorithm seeing how to predict fluctuations in the soybean market.  He had success in Baseball using analytics & they backed themselves to do it in football too.

Our club are hiring the best geeks to give us the competitive advantage in terms of recruitment, analysing games & looking to evolve our football.  People might not like the term but we are pretty much Moneyballing our way to success because of our owners.  They saw Salah, Mane, Robertson type players were undervalued & in the right system could thrive.

Ironically Graham was actually advising Spurs for four years before going to LFC, but the managers all ignored his suggestions.  FSG bought into Graham, Klopp was willing to do so when he was hired & the synergy between them all has contributed to incredible success.

This goes back to the bias point I made about sacking Dalglish.  People were just as biased about Salah.  They'd judge him based on 500 minutes at Chelsea.  Instead of the other 1,000s of minutes he had in his career.  This is where emotion has been taken out of the club in terms of tough decisions.  In the past (some clubs seem to do it) a scout or manager would simply buy a player based on what they have seen with their eyes.  Our recruitment has so much more analytical depth to it & it's no coincidence we are seeing almost no failures.

Our club is hiring people who have no experience in football, but just incredibly clever individuals who are brilliant at problems solving, analysing... Will Spearman being the latest.

FSG have revolutionised this club.  Klopp gets all the credit along with the players.  They right get so much praised as they have been brilliant.  But FSG deserve soooooo much more praise as they had the idea & they're hired the right people to make it work.

I'd go as far to say if it wasn't Klopp, it would be another manager having similar success under FSG if they were as open minded as Klopp in terms of their belief in analytics.  Maybe Klopp's biggest strength is the open mindness & pragmatism.  Klopp knows what he's good at - motivating, organising the team, dealing with press etc.  He's allowed the geeks to find the right players for his style, his uses their information to analyse games & add it all together - it's a pretty special mix.

This incredible article just shows how much our geeks are changing the club.  How our geeks are better than other teams geeks.  FSG haven't merely signed Klopp, they have been shrewed & brave in their belief in analytics to make us rise to the top again.

At the time I hated the sacked of Dalglish.  But it might be a microcosm of why the club has just gone from strength to strength - they aren't using emotion to make tough decisions for the best for LFC football club, unlike United who still think ex players will be their key to success.  Our geeks must be pissing themselves!

Look at this video just after Rodgers getting sacked.  Henry criticising the owners, for not backing Rodgers, for not hiring ex players like Carragher...

Our owners were right, despite all the criticism they got with Dalglish sacking, Rodgers sacking, not hiring Carragher etc.  Their calculated approach has seen us become the Champions of Europe & we should be PL Champions if it wasn't for City cheating by not complying with FFP - even then we only feel short by one point.

It's about time our owners were getting FAR more praise, as much as Klopp is getting IMO.

Great post, but for the purpose of not wanting Man Utd to copy this model I think it’s a real shame and that we should, instead, bring in passionate ex-players to head up the analytics department. Why be content with Edwards and Graham when we could have Carragher and Finnan?
