And why?

Just been having a chat with a few mates about the team that started the final and how much we miss some of them.

So we got to the question, which player would you take from that team (as they where then) and start against West Brom, and why?

We only used the players who started or where used substitutes.

I was torn between Luis Garcia, Alonso and Hyypia. Two of them said Alonso, and the other said Riise, he was always a die hard Riise fan though.

Jerzy Dudek

Steve Finnan

Sami Hyypia

Djimi Troare

Xabi Alonso

Luis Garcia

John Arne Riise

Harry Kewell

Milan Baros

Dietmar Hamann

Djbril Cisse

Vladimir Smicer

Ooh, tough one. I'd probably take the Leeds Harry Kewell for one of the front three wide spots, but considering it's a 2005 version, I'll go for Garcia.

Garcia, much as I liked him, was nowhere near as good as some seem to recall.

Alonso, Hamann, or Hyypia. All three, in fact...

I don't think people are saying he was better than any of those mentioned, just that he would be more suited to our needs.

Alonso and Hyypia are two of my favourite players of all time but to answer the original question I'd say Garcia.

In Rodger's system he would make that right side of the front three his own with his skill and poachers instinct and could you imagine a side with Garcia and Suarez in it? The words "unpredictable" and "genius" come to mind.

We need more match winners and Garcia was certainly that and he also wasn't shy of putting a foot in, tracking back and showed his heart when he played through injury in the derby.

I certainly would rather have this:

Xabi, Didi and Sami are the obvious ones to pick, with Garcia perhaps not far behind.

I know Riise played on the left of midfield that night, but is Jose Enrique a better left back than the John Arne Riise of 2005? Enrique is more solid in a defensive sense and is quicker, but Riise offered us so much more going forward than Enrique has thus far, and he also provided a semblance of goal threat (and a greater threat to fans behind the goal, but enough about that).
