I had to have a camera down my throat as I was having some issues (turned out I had a hiatal hernia) and had the option of being put to sleep for it, but if I did that I’d have to stay in for 2/3 hours after it and probably feel fucked for the rest of the day, or I could stay awake for it and leave as soon as it was over.

I opted for the latter as I just wanted to get home straight after and read all stuff about it, watched videos etc... so felt prepared and literally as I’m about to go in a nurse tells me there is a 1 in 100 chance or some shit that they’ll nick something with the camera and I’ll have internal bleeding and need an emergency operation so can I sign this piece of paper to say I understand the risk.

Two minutes later I’m in there with the doctor telling me the most important thing is to keep calm, control my breathing and not worry about anything. Yeah, alright.

Fuck that.

I've had a camera up the jacksy which wasn't pleasant but bearable and up the japs eye into the bladder which was horrible, but I'd have both again 100 times over before I'd have the one down the throat.

Aye, they nearly weren't gonna let me home when I had one because my heart rate and blood pressure were so high, I didn't have a sedative because I needed to drive home.

"Hey your heart rate is very high?"

Yeah don't stop, nearly there.

I've had that. I opted for the sedative, it doesn't immediately knock you out, so I felt the camera go down the back of my throat which hurt like a cunt as they don't give you the anesthetic spray if you have the sedative and then proceeded to feel like I was choking to death as they pumped the air in to expand my stomach. They said don't panic to me either but I don't think I've panicked as much in my life. Horrible experience, the one up the arse can't be as bad.

I’ve got a pretty high pain threshold and would rather just get things over with but I’ve got to admit the camera down the throat was a lot worse than I was expecting. I panicked to fuck and was on the verge of properly losing it when they started taking it out.

Was wishing I’d had the sedative during it but afterwards I was out of there within ten minutes after they told me it was a hernia and some fella was lying there slobbering on himself in the bed next to me so I was glad I didn’t have it in the end.

I've had cock, arse and mouth cameras, Jenna Jameson wouldn't do that shit. I've since developed white coat syndrome, so whenever I go near a hospital now my blood pressure goes through  the roof, which as you can imagine brings its own complications.

I came around before they had finished but had to get a taxi home, my dad came with me so I could go home quicker. How long did it take for them to do yours? I remember being awake when they started and then again as they were finishing, so I can't have been out long.

About 15-20 minutes I reckon. Only time I’ve been put out was by the dentist. I was having a tooth removed and she snapped it off at the gum line meaning she couldn’t get it out so I got referred to this place in West Derby who had to put me to sleep while they cut my gum, got the tooth out and stitched it up.

Someone had to come with me and my wife was in work so my dad waited in the car outside and my mum came in with me. The assistant went into the waiting room after it and said to my mum “your fella is coming out now” the fucking bastard.

Does hurt like a bastard without the sedative that one.  Constantly retching like you've just seen Moyes fingering himself to orgasm doesn't help either.

They inject you with loads of water to fill your bladder up then slip it down, it looks like a knitting needle. Hurts 'a bit' but obviously it's the thought of what's going on that freaks you out the most. They try and talk you through what's on the camera but anyone with any sense just looks at the ceiling and thinks about better times ahead.

Afterwards they let you have a piss in the en suite and send you on your way.

On the way out though I kept feeling like I was gonna piss myself, so I'd go the bog and nothing would come out, them go to the door, them have to go back again, like a Benny Hill sketch. In the end I had to just power walk to my car and hope for the best.

Great times.

Has anyone ever used CBD oil for pain? My back still plays up but has improved (2 herniated discs), I generally take anti-inflammatory meds like Diclofenac, Naproxen, Ibuprofen if it's sore to reduce inflammation and Tramadol if it's really bad, though I use it rarely these days but all these meds aren't good for your stomach so I want an alternative. Equally I don't want to be spending money on useless cream.

I can't answer your question, but have you seen a physio? A good physio can be a life-changer.

Seen quite a few mate, none have solved the problem.

I have found keeping active, doing a pilates type routine daily keeps it controllable without meds, for the most part. I did some garden maintenance yesterday which involved plenty of bending and it's triggered it off but it'll be fine in a few days. I just want an alternative to meds for the bad days.

Don't know if you're in Liverpool but if you are Mather Avenue Physio is good. Gary there seems to have sorted my back. I had/have a disc/sciatica issue - 5 minutes of stretching morning/night. Lockdown and Covid has played havoc with regular exercise though.

I'm sure I have recommended alighnment exercises several times on here, have you tried that?

Yeah I tried those but didn't notice much improvement. I find the active stretching stuff like pilates more effective.

Fair enough, I found them really good but it sounds like what I had was far less severe. There are probably better targetting exercises that require a specialist.

My back is pretty fucked mate, all about minimising chronic symptoms than anything else.

I'm a wool mate. What stretches do you do?

The complete reverse for me. Throat before japs eye and anus any day.

Ha I've had a few. The first couple of times I waited on doctors and the NHS and things just got worse. I learned with physical pain/injury just to bite the bullet and pay for a good physio (good being the operative word - a shit physio can make things worse which I've also found). One thing a previous physio said to me was to manage the pain in the first instance - if that means painkillers or anti inflammatories then so be it.

Have made an appointment with the Mather Avenue physio mate, soon as I told her it was a sore neck she just asked if I'd been working from home, getting loads of them apparently.

Had to bite the bullet, it's not killing me now but it feels really weak, I can actually feel the weight of my head when I'm walking around, like the Mekon from Dan Dare.
