I'm not a betting man, but I wouldn't go for the obvious players to score the first goal of the tournament, simply based on recent history (ie, the last 10 years) which is as follows:

 

2002 - Pape Bouba Diop (Senegal v France)

2004 - Giorgios Karagounis (Greece v Portugal)

2006 - Philipp Lahm (Germany v Costa Rica)

2008 - Vaclav Sverkos (Czech Republic v Switzerland)

2010 - Siphiwe Tshabalala (South Africa v Mexico)

 

All of whom would have had long odds on being the first goalscorer. On that basis, if I had to choose the first goalscorer, I'd go for Maciej Rybus of Poland.

 

Now watch as somebody much more obvious like Lewandowski or Gekas gets the first!
