You sound like people who were proclaiming we would walk the league again at the start of the season

Just putting a positive spin on the situation for my own and others sanity. Football is an unpredictable crazy game. Factor in Covid and you get a parallel football universe.

Considering the circumstances under which we won it, I was under no illusions of another cake walk. Last season City couldn’t stay with us after they won it back to back.

Leicester won it and had a melt down the following season. To see their Manager get bum fucked after actually achieving what we’d been dreaming of for over two decades.

It’s tough at the Top.

City and Leicester were not forced to try to defend the title without a proper defence.

Our problem is so easy to fix, which make our decline impossible to tolerate.

FSG have been good owners but their decisions now are ridicilous, both in a football perspective as well as a economic perspective. If such decisions were made by a managing director, the board would have sacked him immediately.

The point gap to the top in it self is not the problem, it can be closed by a good run of games. The problem is that we won`t have a good enough run of games with the squad we have now.  5.-7. place is a very likely scenario with our current squad.

The soft cunts cant see the wood for the trees. They think they are so cleaver that they can keep getting away with their poor decisions and it won't matter.

They have completely flushed away all the hard work the club has done over the past 3 years and for what a few million pounds it would have taken to get some cover in and back the manager who has brought them their success.

They are about as useful as a chocolate teapot and about as popular as a fart in a submarine.

They just don't see the bigger picture. Also the new training ground has to be the biggest white elephant going as there was absolutely nothing wrong with Melwood.

This is another load of utter shite. Koumetio as 5th choice but has only played once against Midgetland in a dead rubber while Henderson, Phillip's and Wilson have all played ahead of him.

Going by that tweet, we basically went into this season with one super reliable CB, one reasonably reliable CB who had had a couple long term injuries, one CB made of crisps, one midfielder capable of playing CB and one kid called Billy the Kid.

Man City on the other hand, saw the shambles that occured when they tried doing similar shite in defence last season. And promptly brought in two centerbacks for this season. Clean sheets galore and now 7 points ahead of us.

10 if they win their game in hand.

They were around mid table for a while.

Useless fucking cunts making the decisions at the club.

But this is why the blame must be shared across the club. For years, the staff has decided to structure the squad in a certain way, and went even more all in to this idea when Lovren went and Fabinho, a midfielder, was essentially his replacement. It was just a continuation of this thing we decided to do where we have tonnes of midfielders so that they can plug holes in the squad when needed. Which is fine until an entire position group is wiped out by injury and you have midfielders and kids playing centre back.

And now, the problem is being compounded because the owners decided we have no money to buy a centre back. It's bad all around. A situation that needs to be learned from. It's the downfall of the way this squad has been built, and also if the finances aren't in complete tip top shape, we know Klopp won't be bailed out. Man City rectified their issues this summer and just stacked centre back on top of centre back. Will we do the same next summer, is the question.

They don’t have a game in hand now. It’s 7 same games played.

Unless you are taking into account our loss tonight which would be fair. If you carry that through the next 5 games we’ll probably be 15 behind them

Or how about they don't need to make those choices and we just buy a centre back? We went and got Kostas at a time robbo was carrying an injury. It wasn't the most outrageous choice in the world. It certainly is less outrageous than just going fuck it, who cares, we don't have to watch it, which is pretty much what FSG are saying. It's a fucking ridiculous position we're in right now. It's wasn't ideal in the summer, but inaction now is just fucking mental and illustrates the single motivating factor of our owners. Even if they bow to pressure now it's still inexcusable as we've pretty much lost the league and been knocked out of the cup in January.

And frankly if what Pearce says carries any truth, it might just explain the dramatic downturn in form as the players just don't think they can keep smashing it all to line the pockets of some gobshites in Boston who clearly have less dedication to the cause than they do. We've built this latest version of the club on the "we're all in it together" mantra. As long as "all" doesn't include those who profit most.

I've said for months we need a centre back in January, as has everyone else. FSG not rectifying this problem now is really poor from them. But the problem has been born from a fair bit of bad luck but also from a specific strategy we employed when building this squad, that I'm tired of repeating but somehow loads of people keep ignoring.

So, I think it's fair to ask questions about what we're going to do. Likely, we won't do anything this month and we'll buy a new centre back that can rival Matip and Gomez this summer. And if they all don't get injured at the same time next season, it will probably be fine.

And so it begins.

Well, duh. There’s no way a near-30 year old Van Dijk stays with a couple of seasons left and no CL. He makes way for someone like Ben White, the remainder of the fee covers contract renewals for Fabinho and one of Salah or Mané while the other leaves wand covers the CL shortfall and possibly funding for a Robertson-like signing.

I've actually thought that too regarding the noticable drop off. The front 3 have barely had a rest since 2018. They must join up with their national teams completely knackered. There was a tweet of bad news Pearce today basically saying Fabinho doesn't want to play centre back long term incase the club get too comfortable with him there. Basically to avoid spending the money.

I'm sure the Wijnaldum contract saga has been noted by them. Wijnaldum may want to leave but the clubs stance of offering less than he expected may have the others thinking that they aren't likely to get a better contract in the future.

The lack of competition has made a few if them too comfy as well. No matter how shit some of them play they will always be on the team sheet because there's no one there to push them.

Also, the club policy of buying youngsters who won't be ready for a few years whikst completely ignoring the centre back issue is making them think that there won't be any first team squad building for a while and running the existing squad into the ground.

The thing the owners have probably been counting on is the bank of Barcelona and Madrid to fund rebuilds. If both of them are skint then who do our top players end up going to, unless they move to another English club

Well, we’ve probably got a few players either Manc club would take and I doubt FSG would turn down the highest bidder for anyone, regardless of historical precedent in terms of (not) doing business with one of them.
