This was always going to be a story that delivered laughs, I almost shat out a kidney when I first heard the news yesterday, but today's Mirror has to take the crown so far.

Double page spread in the sports section, has our old mate Olly Holt, their chief sports writer, in a column on the right saying, (stop sniggering at the back)

Hodgson also deserves a lot more than being written off before he has even taken the job. His record and experience of coaching across the world demands that...

He is tactically astute, his is a clever coach...

What he will need to overcome is the inverted snobbery that will be directed at him because he's a cerebral manager.

(I promise I'm not making this up)

and best of all

He was lampooned crudely and unnecessarily as Woy

On the left page, we have Martin Lipton, chief football writer, under the following headline, in 1.5 inch type:

OH WHY?

OH WHY?

OH WOY?

FA have done another 'Cloughie'... snubbed Redknap, the people's choice, for a 'yes' man in a blazer.

Although the article doesn't directly attack Hodgson, it contains not one word of genuine praise and a lot of barely hidden contempt.

Guest Numero Veinticinco

I've seen quite a few Liverpool fans defending themselves against the 'they hounded Hodgson out of Liverpool' charge. Fucking right he was hounded out. He was fucking SHITE.

Some of them are still waxing lyrical about Hodgson;some of them are still calling for 'arry!

But a lot of them are suddenly asking "Why Hodgson?"

"Get your boots on boys!Run up there!Run down there!Right that's it!That's our tactics sorted!"

But suddenly the media's asking "How come Roy?"But they didn't ask that when he came here!.

Amazingly,he's now being questioned as an England Manager! Some of our friends in the media are saying he's never achieved anything apart from a Swedish 3rd Division title.

Just wait till he talks about Ukraine and Sweden being formidable opponents !

But they all thought he was good enough for is!

The only reason the likes of Barclay and Ollie Holt amongst others ever thought(wink wink nod nod) he was good enough for us was because they fucking detest us.

And they fucking knew Hodgson wouldn't be able to handle managing us.

The cunts would have had their "Hodgson hounded out by evil scousers" headlines ready the day he was appointed.

Bruce had won 3 home games from January 1st 2011 till he was sacked at the end of Novemember we would've gone down if he didn't leave ! Any other manager than KK and yous would want his head like yous did with Woy

Yeah, but you're Sunderland. That is usually classed as decent form for your shitty club.

Your women are slags, mothers are cunts and your men are women. Its all a big mess.

Now fuck off.

King Kennys this season...won the Cup

Indeed he did. Imagine what he could do with a decent team.

If yous are sitting 8th this time next season will he still be King Kenny ?

Yes he will.

If you think the treatment of Hodgson was a "disgrace" here, then just wait to see how much of a "disgrace" it will be after he takes the England job. You ain't seen nothing yet.

South African journalist Terry Collins wrote this blog yesterday

http://www.neal-collins.blogspot.com/

Turns out that before Malmo, nice Uncle Roy ignored the international boycott on apartheid and went to a whites-only team to play and coach for a couple of years. Not something that he seems to include in his magnificent 35 years of experience. Now while I don't think he's a racist, he will clearly do anything if it benefits himself and sod everyone else.

Reports say that some of the squad are divided on Terry being included whilst awaiting a trial on racism charges. The FA have chosen Roy to sort these issues out, reassure unsettled players and unite the squad. Another work of genius from them.

When he completely cocks up this will be one of many things dragged from under the carpet to beat him with by the Press. Nailed on.

And rightly so.

Anyone else remember when "Front players stay together - give us an outlet for longer passes" was the height of our strategy?

Edit: not allowed to post images, or even links apparently until you have more posts. It's from the whiteboard Roy had for us, you can google it or look here: http and then desmond.yfrog.com/Himg611/scaled.php?tn=0&server=611&filename=kkgd.jpg&xsize=640&ysize=640
