IP address help

I've recently changed the IP address on my PS3 in order to get the American Netflix content. It worked very well but seems to have changed my IP address on my router as well.

It is currently saying I'm in America and, obviously, I'm not!

Besides turning the router off and on again, any ideas on changing it back to what it originally was?

Your external IP (the one that websites use to determine your location) is completely separate to your internal IP address (of your home network).

Your routers internal IP address (internet gateway address for devices connected to it, such as a ps3), will probably be 192.168.1.xxx (xxx being 1-254). The external one will be very different (same format).

Are you using a proxy server ?

Google your router make / model, there will be a wiki that will help.

has me bemused this...

unless you are using a proxy you have no control over your ip address. its either a static or roaming depending on your ISP.

giving a device its own ip whether it be an x box, ps3 or pc n relates to the internal network managed by your router. putting a specific IP into your ps3 should not make it any more capable of watching American content or British
