Carroll did what we bought him to do - no more and no less. He had a good game, and his link up play with Suare was excellent, but I can't go over the top on his performance.

 

Skrtel was immense again and Spearing did well too.

Putting Kelly above Suárez only just becausehe was awesome both in defense and as an attacking threat. Johnson may have a hard task winning his place back. Carroll was also a formidable menace and defended well too, so honourable mention for him. Downing, Enrique seem to be working together better. Hendo shaky first half but got into gear second half. It's hard to find fault with any of the players last night, but I'm sure the usual detractors will find a way.

Oh yeah, there should be some kind of presis.

 

Kelly was bombing on and taking care of business, great composure on the ball, and great power to get the ball.

Gerrard scored a hat-trick, and to be honest I don't recall him doing much else throughout the game, which sounds a very odd thing to say.

Skrtel was class, pure power but was also so assured when coming out of defence, could have hoofed it a few times and didn't, just side-stepped the man and found a pass once more.
