Nobody should ever go to a game and die because of it

1pm UPDATE

SHOCKED neighbours today paid tribute to Merseyside man Alex Jarmay who was stabbed to death outside a bar in north London after travelling down for the Carling Cup final.

They described former Wirral Grammar School for Boys pupil Alex Jarmay, from Spital, Wirral, as a "lovely young man".

It is understood the 26-year-old Liverpool FC fan travelled down to the capital with his brother Luke to watch the Reds take on Cardiff in the Carling Cup final.

A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said Mr Jarmay’s family were informed yesterday but no formal identification had yet been made.

Three men and a youth, aged 28, 25, 23 and 17 and all from the London area. were arrested at the scene in connection with Mr Jarmay’s murder. All four today remained in custody.

One neighbour today told the ECHO: "I am deeply shocked. He was a lovely young man. I have known him since he was six years old."

The fatal stabbing, which was not thought football-related, happened outside Bar Uno, in Inverness Street, Camden late on Saturday night.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene shortly before midnight where they found Mr Jarmay suffering from stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The results of a post mortem examination scheduled to take place yesterday have yet to be released.

The Metropolitan Police spokeswoman added: "The homicide and serious crime command is investigating.

"While officers retain an open mind as regards a motive it is not believed to be football-related."

Last night forensics officers were still searching inside Bar Uno.

A tent remained in place over the blood-stained spot where the victim was thought to have collapsed after being stabbed.

A woman who works at Bar Vinyl next door said police arrived at around midnight and told staff not to let anyone leave.

She said: "We continued to serve the customers as usual. They were eventually allowed to leave about 1am. There were a lot of Liverpool fans out last night."

Liverpool fan Michael Evans, who works at the nearby Good Mixer pub, said: "It’s very sad if he’s come down to support his team and this happens."

Liverpool fans expressed their shock at Mr Jarmay’s death on social networking sites.

One read: "Went to London for the weekend going to support the Reds but didn't make it to the game.. RIP Alex Jarmay.. The Reds won for you mate."

Another said: "Terrible to hear about Alex Jarmay, thoughts with his family and friends. RIP."

Any with information was today urged to call police on 020 8358 0200 or the anonymous Crimestoppers hotline on 0800 555111.

Me and the lads I went down with were actually bevvying around Camden way that same night. Our group got split up as well as the night progressed and it's scary to think that all it takes is for someone to wander into the wrong group of people.

My thoughts are with the lad's family and friends. Absolutely tragic.

Read about this on my way to Gatwick in the London Evening Standard earlier.

Really, really sad but I dont think it was football related according from what the police had found.

His actual murder probably wasn't football related, his presence was.

Hopefully those involved are brought to justice.

The lack of respect for others and the lack of human decency in some parts of todays society is shocking and there are really no excuses for it.

One week ago a 19 year old asylum seeker from Iraq was killed in the Stavanger region after he had played a game of football and when the game finished his group would not share a bottle of water with someone from the opposing team. one of them pulled out a knife and stabbed him to death before they fleed the scene.
