I think Ridley Scott is on dangerous ground here.

Personally, with this and talks of him doing a Blade Runner sequal as well, I think it's almost like he's slipping in George Lucas territory of just re-hashing his original ideas.

Although I think Scott is a decent director (the above mentioned 2, Gladiator, Black Hawk Down etc are classics) his recent efforts have all been missed opportunities IMO.

American Gangster, Body Of Lies, Kingdom Of Heaven, Hannibal and Robin Hood all have been Ok (to various degrees) but I got the feeling watching them all that they would have been better films under a different director.

The Alien franchise is on it's knees after Alien 3, Alien 4 and the AvP films and it would be hard to imagine him doing worse than those films but even if it continues in the 'only Ok' bracket his recent films have fall into, he'll still be accused of shitting on his own legacy.

If any director was to come back to the Alien franchise it should have been James Cameron. I'd have liked to see David Fincher get another go as he's a director at the peak of his powers while it appears to me that Scott's best days are behind him.

I hope I'm wrong and it's ace but I am sceptical about it.

Please, please, please be an 18 and don't tone the horror elements down to ensure a lower rating and more profit.

Apparently he's filming a 12a and an 18 version of the films.
