BT infinity

Decided to take the plunge and ditch my 1.9meg broadband and go for BT infinity as its just become available in my area. On their website they said I would be able to get 17 meg download speeds and 2 meg upload. The engineer fitted everything yesterday and showed me I was getting about 22meg. Now this fluctuates between 20 and 30 meg everytime I test the speed which is great but the problem is when I am playing MW3 it seems to drop connection for a split seconed, which kicks me back to the lobby and I get a message saying server connection timed out. The BT engineer did say I may get problems with speed for the 1st week but didnt mention a stable connection problem. Anybody had a problem like this ? Anybody know how I can fix it without spending the next couple of weeks on the phone to some shaved chimp at BT.

Try an Ethernet connection ?

It may be because of traffic management. Ask BT if the slow the speed between certain times.

That's worth a try, maybe its the wireless connection thats the problem.

I'm not worried about the speed, 20meg is as slow as it drops. It actually loses connection completely for a seconed or 2 and then reconnects. Happens every 10 - 20 minutes

Mines been doing this to. Just normal broadband ATM until infinity is avaliable.

I'm with BT, normal broadband with v2 hub and this seems to happen with me on fifa but not on mw3, I haven't tried opening up the ports to see if that helps.

I'm with BT infinity. It is fast but it drops connection far too often.

Been better tonight. Did what TK suggested and it was fine but my missus wasn't happy with the wire across the living room so went back to wireless and had about 4 disconnections in 3 hours. Last night it was every 10 mins so maybe its settling down. If not going to have to buy a 10 meter Ethernet cable

Do these really work? The idea seems too good to be true. Would the connection be more stable than wireless?

With the bt home hub its much more of a pain than any other router I've used.

 

I use those plugs Vivaldo mentioned and they work well for normal internet use, haven't tried them for the ps3 though.

I bought these and they work great. I ditched my homehub and bought a Cisco 4200 pricey but ace. Never had any drop outs at all and I get approx 37mb

Been on mw3 this afternoon and didn't get one drop out so hopefully things have sorted themselves out. Thanks though lads. Will rep all of you when I get on my laptop. On my works piss up thinking lets
