I'm no fan of Kuyt, but that is simply not true. Downing was poor today.

He was a bit on and off IMO. Started well and beat Warnock with ease a few times. After that they doubled up on him a lot and he didn't have much impact after that. Still created space for Luis and Johnson though. Could have done more on the counter I thought, he needs to be more direct.

Good solid performance. As comfortable as it gets. Totally controlled the game and probably had plenty more in the tank if we needed it. Still wasteful and cursed by the woodwork, and as we keep saying every single week on another day it could have been 6 or 7 easily.

Defensively we are rock solid. We play great football and create chances in abundance. There isn't a single week position in the side. In my opinion we are at 90% of where we want to be. The only improvement needed is in finishing. I really don't think there is a hell of a lot wrong with us now, and I am very excited about the future under Kenny. The transformation in 12 months is just astonishing. It's like night and day.

I find peoples opinions of Downing on this site a bit baffling.

I've seen games this season where hes played utterly dung and people have refused to criticize him for all sorts of bizarre reasons.

Today and on one or two other occasions I thought he did his job quite well, his end product was poor but overall he contributed quite well. Yet people pick today to round on him.

Hes had far far worse performances and nothings been said so I don't get why people choose today to have a go at him. Thought he did ok personally. But his end product is badly lacking at times.

I'd have to disagree with that. But agree with all the rest.

I think our midfield got bypassed a bit too easily at times without Lucas, Villa had some good opportunities and got the ball in good areas, but bad decision making and wastefulness meant Reina wasn't tested. As for the rest, I think we're nearly there, but I do think we need to address the holding midfield position in January.

We probably play the best football in the league at the moment, if we get that clinical edge we are lacking, we can be a real force.

When he has a run in the side we go places. The last time he had any sustained period of playing was when we reached Athens.

Have a lok at how we play when he's missing. We can't play it out from the back and struggle for control. His ability and confidence to step out doesnt just set up attacks and commit opposing midfielders, it sets a mentality and a tone.

So underrated as a player.

I think he's a fine player, but he's hardly the heartbeat of the team. He contributes, just like the other good players in the team.

We're not playing the best football in the league.

Although it is the best football we've played in quite a few years IMO. We're nearly there, we really are. This team is so close, it just needs to step it up a gear and we'll well be in the mix for the Champions League.

It's looking good.

We missed Lucas not one jot today. The more dynamic midfield meant we were far better going forward and created plenty of chances. What we do need in January is a goalscorer.

Think so.

Things are starting to click pretty well.

Not today, because we weren't threatened. But there are gaps that weren't there before, in my opinion. Better players than Delfuonso, Delph et all would have made more of the situations they found themselves in today. We shouldn't miss him in the next 3 games either. But, as we seen against Fulham, we have nobody who can do that job.

Of course we need a goalscorer, Ray Charles could see that.

Yeah, Reina absolutely rages as gaps appear and long shot after long shot flies at our goal. It's defo a problem but luckily theres only 5 good teams we play in this league.

That where the transfer budget should go. We've got enough midfielders. We don't play enough good teams for us to require a specialist holding midfielder.

Too easy today, didn't need to waste any more energy than was needed with a difficult away game on Wednesday night. I would have liked a few more goals but it’s coming together nicely.

Suarez should be on about 9 league goals this season, it’s mental how unlucky he is with the bar or clearances, not to mention his missed penalty at the start of the season. Loving watching the mighty reds again, everything feels good!

Only negatives again Carroll came on and did absolutely nothing, what annoys me more than anything with him will be when he lays off a nice neat pass then doesn’t show any ambition or effort to try and get into the box. Downing was bad today as well; I’d of like to have seen Maxi.

Fucking hell, some proper bad bellends on here. We win 2-0 away from home without looking in any danger and we could easily have won 5-0, yet still there are moans and criticism.

It's laughable.

Agreed. You do wonder what it takes for some people to happy. I think it betrays wider issues they are having in their lives.

Great three points today. Could have been much more. Be nice if City could do us a favour later too.

Hopefully spurs slip up soon as our next three fixtures are all winnable.

No matter what the result at Eastlands today, we make up ground on one or both teams. With our next 3 fixtures, there is no reason why we cannot close the gap even more on top spot.

I have to say, our defence has been fantastic with Agger and Skrtel at centre back. Its really put to bed the rubbish that people were saying about Agger not being able to organise the defence. And Johnson not being a good defender. And Skrtel being clumsy and too error prone, which is, I admit, something I thought too before he started partnering Agger.
