Brilliant this from Woakes ....And fair fucks to Buttler even if his wicket keeping isn’t up to scratch he’s shown in this and the last couple of games he can dig in like a proper test batsman...Shocking decision to get him mind even though it was hitting no umpire should be giving that

What an excellent test match that was. Great advertisement for the game.

Has to be said it was a great pitch which had a bit in it for everyone. Some excellent batting and bowling at times and pure muck at others. Strange captaincy by both captains at important times in the match and those umpires were pretty shite. Fair fucks to Buttler and Woakes (what a match he had) for that partnership and basically handing England the victory. Buttler under immense pressure and finally delivered, well at least with the bat, his keeping was pathetic. Sets up a cracking series and it's a pity that it has to be played in front of no spectators.

Yes, a lot of drama and a great result, given how unlikely it was a few hours ago. So credit to Buttler and Woakes.

Do you reckon the balance of the side is good? I'd like to see Curran in the side, to provide that left arm pace, but who would get dropped? Woakes might be rediscovering his confidence, and there's no way he deserves to go.

On a Grinch note - I'm not sure that this really vindicates Buttler as a test player. This was a fairly unusual scenario, given it was a run chase, and that's what Buttler knows. Listening to TMS, someone was saying that he always seems unsure of himself, reigning in his natural attacking instincts. We will see whether this is the turning point as far as his batting goes. Can he be a reliable batsman when there's no slogging option? Certainly his wicketkeeping is not up to scratch (neither is Bairstow's). I'd rather see Foalkes be a specialist who can sometimes chip in with the bat.

Also, what was with the Pakistan bowlers using saliva? I thought the coronavirus measures were strictly saying that no saliva, only sweat could be applied to the ball.

Buttler probably saved himself with that innings, I'd rather see Foakes take the gloves personally. I guess if Buttler takes confidence from that innings and improves in all areas then the team wins though. Woakes is one of those bowlers who should always be in the team on home soil, his averages backs that up. I'm not sure what Bess brings to the party, Root is every bit as good if you need a spinner. I'd rather go with a more orthodox set up for the next test and play another batsman, although a lot will probably depend on how fit Stokes is as far as carrying a workload with the ball goes.

I never took much notice of the Pakistan bowlers when they were working on the ball mate.

Think you're right about Buttler. Bess is one for the future, but maybe he'd be better off in the sub continent tour, if it goes ahead.

I heard the TMS commentary say something about a bowler licking his fingers and applying it to the ball, but without any Covid aspect. Weird, given how much Aggers went on about it in the Windies matches. Then when we started watching Sky coverage, my wife noticed it.

God, I love Test Cricket!

What a game that was... England dead & buried then combination of wonderful, brave batting, good luck and some woeful Pakistan decisions we snatch it

Butler excellent innings but his keeping just isn't up to it and the off spinner... he has something but I think he needs some more County experience before playing for England again. Pope looks good and Root back in the groove. Nice

And some thought we wouldn’t get 200 in the first innings...

We'll struggle to make 300 now, some good bowing this morning with conditions being suited to the new ball. I bet Anderson is chomping at the bit to get the new cherry in his hand.
