That little cameo appearance was perhaps the oddest bit of the lot, wasn't it.  His gameshow host smile and contrived expressions after saying he wasn't able to speak, then the way they just stood there for an age, doing what he's done every morning by posing for photographers; setting the agenda and keeping up this image of the strong, bastion of respectability who remains in complete control.  Clinically fascinating, he's definitely not right in the head.
